Update (Mon 23rd Nov, 2020 13:45 GMT): A Switch release date has now been provided for Landflix Odyssey. The game will launch on the Nintendo eShop on 22nd December priced at $14.99, following launches on rival platforms on 27th November.
Original Article (Mon 9th Nov, 2020 12:00 GMT): Developed and published by Fantastico Studio, Landflix Odyssey is an action-platformer that'll transport you inside a variety of TV shows. And yes, it's coming to Switch.
In the game, you'll be taking on the role of Larry, a lazy binge-watcher who finds himself trapped inside Netfl– erm, Landflix after using a dodgy remote. To return home, Larry must recover all five batteries which have ended up inside the TV shows offered by the streaming service, setting off on a platforming adventure to do just that.
The five TV shows you'll explore are inspired by real TV hits. Let's see if you can guess what the following are based on:
In Landflix Odyssey there are 5 TV shows, playable worlds:
- Peculiar Stuff
- Elder Thrones
- Blindevil
- Going Mad
- The Standing Zombie
The game's launching on Steam next week, and while no console release dates have been provided just yet, we do know that it's heading to Switch and all current and next-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. We're promised that it's coming "soon", so keep an eye out for a release on the eShop if you're interested.

Uff ... the eShop needs keyword categories where you can just cross off "2D", "sidescroller", "retro style" and "roguelike".
I am not hating. I am glad the indie devs have such a great platform. But for me personally as a consumer it feels like an overwhelming amount. And sometimes I would just filter these games out of the news feed or the shop. Just to see ... you know ... the few other things.
This.....looks amazing on premise alone.
I'm not feeling the premise, but the gameplay looks really fun
That is a very unique premise.
Reminds me a little bit of the GARFIELD game where he gets sucked into his TV ( I think, though not 100%, that Garfield has a problem with his remote and the satellite dish and that is how he gets sucked in ). Still this game looks like it could be interesting. If it is priced right i will be looking at this for sure.
Funnily enough it kinda looks like a game you'd used to get on a Sky box.
This premise really excites me.
Is Going Mad Breaking Bad?
I'm certain what the others are - Game of Thrones (maybe with a dose of The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim to boot), Stranger Things, Daredevil, and the Walking Dead.
Concept sounds cool. Reminds me of Kid Chameleon
So look. Parody CAN be a protected use, but it's not just an automatic get-out-of-copyright-infrigement-jail card. The name is a pretty obvious "our game is just a bunch of bland platforming retro levels, we need a catch" gimmick. Skating on thin ice here.
It's not like the concept hasn't been done before, but that doesn't mean I don't like it. I read first, then watched. I have to say, with the shows they chose to parody, the pixel art vibe isn't really selling the concept. I'll wait to pass judgement, but I didn't really feel the themes were well represented. There didn't seem to be the sort of immersion in each different show that other games that have done this had... and I feel like it's the art design that is the barrier. I have nothing against pixel art and it looks great, I'm just not feeling it. I know not every studio has the resources, but I would have loved to have seen more of a Rayman, animated vibe. But, not my game and I'm not a developer, sooooo... I should shush.
The premise is interesting but all I'm seeing in gameplay is a run-of-the-mill retro-styled 2D platformer, so it'll be good to see what, if anything, they do to explore the whole "Netflix world" setting beyond the menu decorations
I have just realized over the past few weeks that Fantastico makes some fantastic games, so I will definitely keep an eye on this one. They also did Black Paradox, a great rogue like shmup (better than Sterdenn, IMO) and Top Run, a stylish, fun runner. They have another 4 or 5 games on Switch that I haven’t played yet, including Firework. And for those who like good music in their games, whoever is doing the music for Fantastico is top-notch. Black Paradox’s soundtrack sounds like a lost album from synth wave master Carpenter Brut.
@FantasiaWHT I’m not a lawyer, but part of my job is understanding law as it pertains to the media, and this is easily covered by the “satire” argument, even more so than Retro City Rampage would be (RCR is game parodying game; this is game parodying streaming shows, in an extremely non-threatening way). If there’s one thing that may attract some trouble, it’s that logo.
@SolarJetman The whole concept is completely fine, it's the name that gives me pause (and the fact that the name uses the same shape/font as Netflix, as I think you flagged). And actually I shouldn't have said copyright, it'd be a trademark issue (if anything). The "McSleep" lawsuit where McDonald's successfully sued a chain of hotels would be a reasonable comparison.
It's a cool idea but the art style doesn't really do it for me, kind of reminds me of Gex, those games had the same idea of going around a world based on TV shows/movies.
Premise. Premise.
I just wanted to say “premise” like everyone else.
Game looks blah to me.
@FantasiaWHT Agreed🙂 Although I have noticed some jacking of “flix,” like popcornflix
@marandahir Going Mad is Breaking bad;
@TimboSlice Right?! Premise, premise, premise. 😂😂
Concept is great; execution of the game seems like a self fervent story based on what I’ve seen here and have looked up elsewhere.
Finally the Gex 4 we deserve!
@SolarJetman Hah, we might start to see aggressive litigation of these things specifically so "flix" doesn't become genericized!
@SolarJetman I appreciate your insight, man
@Yanina Agreed. Sorry I'm done with the super pixelated run-of-the-mill games, it is being way overdone. I have plenty of them, now let's try making games with some higher pixel counts and pretty scenery even. I know that sounds hateful, but it is just overkill at this point.
Not sure how I feel about this Gex reboot.
@Unit_DTH I felt it was overkill as soon as games like OwlBoy and Celeste started becoming the norm. It’s actually pretty cool when the games actually seem like they can run on older hardware (Shovel Knight, Retro City Rampage, sprite based Shantae games, Sonic Mania, Freedom Planet) but I’m beyond sick of MS Paint pixel graphics. It’s gotten to the point to where it’s an automatic “nope” whenever I see that style and I know it’s shallow but these games are all started to look the same. Shame too, because the premise reminds me of Gex.
@Goat_FromBOTW Aw man someone else beat me to it
@RetroOutcast I agree with you, too many clone looking games these days that looked like they were made in the first iteration of MS Paint. I understand time and money constraints, but it just seems like a flood of the same style.
Please, don't misunderstand. I love retro games and even retro inspired games ( I guess technically I am retro) but we are just being inundated with these bland looking games. I'm pretty sure that there is a genre outside of metroidvania/roguelike/sidescroller... aren't there?
@DankBoi ???? I was refering to the 1990's (ish) game, I think it was on Genesis. Caught in the Act was the name of it.
@Unit_DTH Whatever happened to point A to point B platformers? Even that would be refreshing!
@RetroOutcast apparently ppl don't remember any of the 2d retro titles, i. e. Super Mario bros., Rush'n Attack, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, etc.
@Unit_DTH maybe I’m just wrong and 2D platforming really started with Super Metroid. 😂😂😂 anything that didn’t have a billion branching paths doesn’t count
I like the tongue in cheek, not a fan of the art style though.
