There have been a lot of video game delays this year, and the latest company to announce it has experienced some setbacks due to the global pandemic is Studio MDHR. In a letter on social media, the founders Chad and Jared Moldenhauer told fans they would just have to wait until 2021 to experience 'The Delicious Last Course' DLC for Cuphead.
In "true Studio MDHR fashion" the team isn't content with anything but its best work and obviously meeting these high standards this year has been "extremely challenging" given the current circumstances. Rather than compromise its vision and get the extra content out this year, the studio has made the "difficult decision" to push back the release.
"We know many of you have been waiting to return to Inkwell Isles, and our goal is to make the trip back there next year a truly magical one."
While the DLC is a continuation of Cuphead and Mugman's grand adventure, it's also described as a conclusion and that's why the studio wants this final chapter to be the best it can possibly be.
Back in July, Studio MDHR's Maja Moldenhauer admitted the team "probably" announced the DLC a bit too soon:
"it's taking us a little longer than we thought, but we want to make it a memorable experience. And to be honest, and I think that we ultimately probably announced it a little bit too early based on when we actually put pencil to paper - but at the end of the day, we want it to be a fulfilling experience and live upto Cuphead and it will come out when it's ready."

Spooky scary skeletons
I forgot this was a thing to be honest. I really enjoyed Cuphead when I played it but I don’t think I would replay it due to the joy of getting it over with being so great.
Kuphead Hearts 3
I didn't even know this was still slated for 2020. I was already expecting 2021 or later, as slow as MDHR is. Don't get me wrong, they do a phenomenal job, but they've even made jokes themselves about how slow their development cycle is.
This was announced in 2018. I was so excited cause that’s when I got this for Xbox. Excitement has been dwindling for a little and now I may not even care to go back to it by next year. Should have announced it as a sequel and take your time. Great game though. Very beautiful.
Good, I still haven’t finished act 1 yet
Can wait for it to release on November 14th 2076, the same day as Just Dance 2077, Sonic the Hedgehog 5, and the extinction of humans.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand and Cyberpunk
A game is finished when it's finished, and not sooner.
Of course Cuphead is also somewhat notorious for its lengthy development time, considering how they go about it.
It's fine, they should take their time with this
OH MY GOD not again, But I still support them dalaying it bc I want the best dlc ever I want it to be amazing, I want it to be magical and it will be after its done.
@MarcianoMD No, cyberpunk will release in 3000, which is kinda ironic since Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to be futuristic, but it'll really just the past by the time it releases.
waiting for the physical release to play it so looks like i will be waiting a bit longer, that's fine as i've got quite the backlog currently.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand and a trailer for GTA 6 😆
I don’t buy dlc but will buy this day 1
@YoshiTails Your joke sends shivers down my spine.
I love the line "it's taking a little longer than we thought." Have they forgotten how the full game's development went? That one experienced quite a lengthy delay, so no surprise to hear they were a bit optimistic with their timeline. I loved Cuphead, so I expect to get this DLC, but I've wondered since 2017 if this style of presentation might end up yielding diminishing returns over time and might not be sustainable once the presentation stops feeling new.
Waiting on this so the physical can come out
@HIGHscores85 Same.
If its taken this long for a dlc its got to be pretty big in size. At that point, why not just turn this dlc into a sequel.
It isn't surprising at this point in the year, but honestly very disappointing all the same. Cuphead is one of my favorite games ever. A perfect game. One I'm so eager to have DLC.
I'm waiting to get it physical because of all the great artwork and also because of my backlog.
It’s fine, no ones going to care how long it took once it finally drops. It’s worth it to get it right.
@Thwomp_Stomper Don't you mean GTA 5 2?
@YoshiTails Send shivers down your spine.
Cyberpunk came out before the DLC....lol
They knew this in the summer.
No sh*t. Who would’ve guessed?
I hope they will come with a physical edition this time. I havent bought this one cause it was a digital only, hope to buy it when dlc come out.
The fact they are just stating the year 2021 and nothing more specific like “first half of 2021” makes me nervous that it’ll be late 2021 if at all.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand The idea that they would ever call a new game Sonic 5 now would be such a slap in the face to Sonic Mania, especially because of what is officially Sonic 4. Heck, it's a slap in the face of Sonic CD even, just like Mania, that game is more of a proper numbered Sonic game than either episode of Sonic 4 is or ever will be.
Announced it a little early? Like in 2017 when they said there wouldn't be any physical version until the DLC was ready LOL
I bought my Xbox One with Cuphead as one of the reasons, so I wanted it retail. Then I had to wait because there wouldn't be any until the DLC, which makes no sense because on Xbox One they don't come on disc. Then it was released on Switch, so let's wait until the DLC and hope the physical version comes to Xbox One too whenever it comes out. But it wasn't necessary to say it got delayed until 2021. I mean, we're ending November here.
Hey, that's fine.
A pretty high level of finish is expected from Cuphead, so rather have a chat and another glass of wine while we wait for the last course, than leaving with a bitter taste in our mouths.
@MarcianoMD that’s too early. I’d say 3948 sounds right.
This has probably been noticed, but "Delicous Last Course"-DLC
