This week marks the 8th anniversary of the original Bravely Default for 3DS. To celebrate, Square Enix's Twitter account for the game shared some new artwork by character designer Naoki Ikushima.
Perhaps more interestingly, it said information about Bravely Default II for Nintendo Switch would be coming soon.
Bravely Default II is meant to be arriving at some point this year. Last month, the game was rated by the Australian Classification Board. Hopefully, this means it's still on track to launch before the end of 2020.
When do you think this anticipated Switch title will be released? Share your thoughts down below.

Nice, hopefully they took the feedback they received from the demo to heart and made the game into something great.
I doubt they'd get rid of the on-screen enemies after going through the trouble of inteplenting them, but I sure wish they did. And REALLY hoping they toned down or removed those battle quotes because holy **** those gave me a headache.
Loved the demo, just hope it gets released soon.
on-track...how long have we been hearing that......
@Expa0 Its usually a good idea not to implement user suggestions so i hope they did not do what you say. It’s best just to listen to the problems users have.
Prepare for a delay.
Looking forward to it, but I'm guessing it's another game that quietly gets moved to 2021, joining No More Heroes 3 and New Pokemon Snap.
@Averagewriter They are predefined characters. The game has voice acting and they refer to each other by name. So no, I don't think you can change the name.
I loved the demo and have over 10hrs playtime on it. All items, secrets and bosses done 😁 Bring on the main game now!
It’ll be the next partners showcase
For me personally the demo just had a "meh" feeling to it. The artwork was great, but that static city screen where your tiny character runs around and talks to tiny NPCs that are barely discernable from your own party members was off-putting. I really enjoyed the original and I realize that demos often fall short of the experience of the actual full game, so I'll take a "wait and see" approach to this. At any rate, it's likely going to be a title I won't bother picking up until it goes on sale at a hefty discount.
Hopefully not Bravely Defaulted to 2021.
I only recently got around to playing the demo but I liked the demo. Totally want this one!
not being able to coordinate attacks was a issue for me, couldn't set up to take advantage of a enemy defense drop.
shame it isn't coming out this year. loved the first game
I was really disappointed with the demo... Hopefully the games improved a bunch since. Tho I finally succumbed and just ordered Xenoblade Chronicles DE so I guess that’ll keep me busy for long enough that I can skip BD2 if it isn’t top notch!
@Averagewriter fun fact: in Harry Potter, Tom Riddle’s middle name in the French version is Elvis. It’s something to do with making translation work with the anagram of his name to Voldemort.
Wanna play it as soon as it is possible
hopefully is a anouncement that Bravely Default 2 is gonna release worldwide on Nintendo Switch in decembre,but let be realistic, Square Enix more information in Bravely Default 2, is problaby a anouncement that the game is gonna be delayed to 2021.
@Late You could actually change the main casts' names in the original Bravely Default, though it didn't affect the spoken dialogue.
@Giancarlothomaz Square games usually get delayed at least once. But they are always better after a delay. I can wait.
I loved the first game but i did not like the demo for the second one.so i dont know about this one
This and Mario 3D World are the only games I’m itching to buy in the near future. I loved both of the 3DS games and am looking forward to spending some time with the new characters. Gutted that Edea and Ringabel probably won’t be in it though.
Hopefully this is actually soon rather than DOOM Eternal "soon".
@Leidaans Oh. You could? I guess I just went with the default names.
After playing the demo, I'm convinced not to touch this mediocre game.
There's better mobile phone games with more depth.
My guess It will release days after hyrule warrior
I wouldn't be surprised if it has been delayed. I still want it to come this year but would understand the release being pushed back. Crazy year.
@Averagewriter sounds like a you problem
It's about characters rather than nameless avatars
@Razer You played a demo
This might save Christmas!
I rather wait for the release date, I avoided the demo due to well how the game was presented...the graphics remind me of those ugly ps2 high contrast ones with the rip off elderscroll type menu page thing - like the timeline is what I am saying here. the menu reminds me of the timeline for elderscroll but not in a good way, it looks ugly 😨...i am hoping they update that design cause good gosh bravely default 3ds menu, art on the world was very beautiful this just seems like they wanna try something fancy but are failing to achieve it with this one
don't believe, that I won't give it a chance(I will, I'm just a bit worried here) whenever it releases i just feel like they could seriously fix those graphics like the menu layout and when your menu to attack an enemy appears 😵. I do love the characters, I just am feeling disappointed that they made every 3ds player confused as heck into believing bravely second to be the actual second game annnd disappointed that they decided to work more on the mobile version for this game..sigh but I am sure they will possibly release the game in good conditions.. ha..
Ill be careful this time as BS flopped hard
The demo didnt grab me...
I really hope it's delayed because it needs way too much polish from the demo to be a great title, like it deserves to be. So many bad aspects that changed from the 3ds games. Bring back random battles too (squeenix already ruined dragon quest 3ds games for me).
I could have done without the chibi art style. I played the demo... it wasn't welcoming. Systems with systems with systems...
@Averagewriter Are you calling a game that isn't even finished yet terrible? Or are you saying you assume It'll be bad because you disliked the first one?
Because your comment either means "this unfinished game is bad" which makes no sense because how would you know? Or your comment means "I personally am not a fan of this series" which is irrelevant to my comment
Magnificent
Really enjoyed Octopath Traveler. I tried the demo of this, but I can't help but feel it looks more of a 3DS title pushed onto the Switch. I'll be waiting for reviews here before moving further on it.
@LilMuku yeah... A demo.
https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/bravely-default-ii-demo-switch/
That demo.
@Late Bravely Default and Bravely Second you could change the characters name, you think Bravely Default II could not because... ?
@Alex90 As I said in reply #26, I'd forgotten since I never used the feature.
And if it's like in the previous games where you need to play most of the game before you can do that and the voice overs still refer to the character by their original name, then I don't think it's what the person who asked about the name change is after either.
@Razer I'm fully aware
A demo that came out a year before the game would even be finished
@LilMuku okay look I played the main game (first one) and I've played a demo for this one.
There is nothing to be hyped about here, if you are then great, knock yourself out.
It's not for me and judging by these here comments, you might be in the minority.
@Razer There we go. Your whole point is that you're not a fan of the series, which as an opinion is as valid as it is pointless
@LilMuku except that my opinion seems to be the majority opinion.
So regardless if it's valid or invalid, the game will still amount to nothing special.
I mean, it's not the worst game in the world, but if it's released at full price, which it probably will be, I can list about 50 games off the top of my head that would be much better value for money.
Again, this might be my opinion, but it's the majority opinion here.
@Razer Still an opinion, like this article's just about the fact that more details for the next game are coming soon.
I don't see how the fact that some people didn't like a 3DS game is relevant here
I liked neither the gameplay, art style, nor the story in the demo. I guess the combat animations were nice, but that's about all the good I have to say about it for now.
@LilMuku well let's see now.
The original game wasn't that impressive.
The demo isn't that impressive.
This article IS about the game.
Yet in your world, the first two points are unrelated to the 3rd? Lol okay we're done.
Good luck with that.
@Razer You didn't like the original game*
The demo hasn't sold you on the new one*
The article isn't about anyone's opinion either
