While the Atari that arcade gaming fans knew and loved in the '80s has long gone, the name continues to find itself attached to all sorts of fancy new projects, including the 'Atari Hotels' venture which we first spoke about earlier this year.
In a new press release, innovation and strategy agency GSD Group has announced that it has teamed up with design firm Gensler, unveiling its vision for its new hotel line. The first two hotels are planned to open in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Phoenix, Arizona, with plans to later expand to Austin, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, San Jose, and Seattle.
The hotels are supposedly being built with "classic and modern video game culture in mind", offering state of the art facilities for esports fans and content creators, as well as retro-style gaming arcades, nightclubs, restaurants, and bars.
The concept art looks like something '80s kids dreamed that 2020 would look like, rather than anything that actually exists today.

"Like Atari’s legacy in innovation, Atari Hotels is infusing synthetic reality into every aspect of the hotel, creating an immersive hospitality and gaming experience for our guests,” said Shelly Murphy, Managing Partner, GSD Group. “From our virtual interactive world to the physical locations, every element of Atari Hotels will offer a unique and authentic experience for everyone."

So Bladerunner got this right!
That is hideous
So they just aren’t gonna talk about their VCS crowdfunded machine and hope people stop talking about it? Either way those hotels look like weird sculptures and I wanna spend a night in one!
"The concept art looks like something '80s kids dreamed that 2020 would look like, rather than anything that actually exists today."
To be honest, that describes all of Las Vegas.
Aww well, when they are catastrophic failures at least the desert is close enough to bury them quickly 😁
Now if they would only build Gaming Houses, then I'd be set.
Atari wants some of that Konami money.
Didn't they have a """next-gen"""" console that they were supposed to be working on?
Opening a hotel? During a pandemic? Lol good luck... 😝
I think we should remain skeptical that anything will come from literally anything Atari announce.
That's a huge hotel. The building spans from Seattle to San Francisco!?
And it will stay as a concept more than likely because as hotels they look like they would be very expensive to maintain and run.
I'd give this about a 8.2% chance of actually opening up
Dear lord, just keep me away from that garbage. I wanna own a farm one day, so hopefully all these greedy companies don’t steal up all the land with their ugly buildings.
I think this could work in Vegas. I'm not sure it would work anywhere else. Reminds me of the "Dave & Busters" of hotels!
I feel bad for them. I know this is not the Atari of old, but there will be a soft spot in my heart for them always.
@TG16_IS_BAE I'm quite sure no one will build a hotel in the middle of a rural farmland area.
@presenttense it surely seems they went with a Bladerunner aesthetics... with the rain and flying vehicles....
@EVIL-C
These haven't even began construction yet on the hotels, these aren't going to be opening up for a while.
If it actually looks like that it would be kinda awesome.
@Toy_Link I know, I'm just being a bit snarky. 😋
ffffffffff me they still havent delivered the VCS console a year later anyone expect this bunch con men that bought a name to build an actual hotel.
Slow news day I see
The mockups look absolutely brilliant, but knowing "Atari" (god knows how many companies have had this name over the past 50 years), it must be too good to be true.
Honestly, this hotel looks better than all their games in the past few years.
So they are going to make crazy hotels but they can't even pump out a game console that they made people prepay....
This company is a scam.
...Arizona, you say?
XDDD theyre dreaming lol.
Cyberpunk's out already?
yes all they need to do it is raise $500m on indiegogo. flexible funding of course.
I'd definitely stay here for a night or two. But as other's said, with Atari's name on it, probably never actually happen.
@EVIL-C Hotels are busier then ever right now. Due to the volume of evictions happening.
Atari and their financial backers are in a fantasy world. I started on the 2600 Junior but for most people Atari has not been relevant since the 1980s. Why?
...
Are these still the Infogrames guys who bought the Atari name, or are they licensing out the use of the name for this?
That first picture reminds me heavily of the Axiom from Wall-E
And what does that have to do with Nintendo or NL? "0"...nada....
@Pod bought and then Licensing the name only....no games nothing...relating to Atari gaming history developments...
Wow, I did not know that Cyberpunk was coming to Atari consoles too!
@jorel262 Atari isn't Atari anymore. The real Atari went bust after the Jaguar & Lynx failed. The founder/CEO went on to found Chuck E. Cheese arcade pizzerias.
This is just a bunch of crooks they sold the name to long, long ago who still think, for some unknown reason, it has actual value of some sort.
It interests me as much as if the Hilton hotel released a game console
I’ll wait till the summer when rates are low.
Hello? Is this reception? Yes, I'd like to make an outgoing call to phone home... snicker
I want to go there...
Atari has delusions of grandeur. First it was their recent mini console(never happened, last I knew), now ... hotels? XD what? What are they on?
Forgive me, as far as I've seen, they haven't been relevant in decades. Right? Have I missed something?
@HobbitGamer They better not! lol
I really think this will not happen but who knows.
This will never happen. Atari is dead. It's nothing but a name.
Surprised people still consider Atari to be a big brand with serious draw, it hasn't meant much since the 80's.
Atari isn't really a well known brand name among the young gamers anymore. Make it Nintendo and this hotel will be fully booked.
I have more faith in Coleco at the moment, Atari seems incapable of following through with anything they do, they're the last company I would trust with anything. In this make believe scenario where they build a hotel, and in a reality where covid isn't a concern, I still wouldn't have any reason to go there, because they don't have any clout, the Atari name means failure and desperation, I'd expect the hotel to be crap. They'd put their name on just about anything for a quick buck regardless of quality.
It ain't gonna last long, the pandemic will shut it down one by one.
Of all the video game companies that might start a hotel chain, I can't think of one more irrelevant today than Atari
I can't say it doesn't look cool to me, a kid that grew up in the mid-80s and early 90s. I, and older people, are probably the target market. But we all know it's not going to look anything like that right? They'll run out of money.
Did they console they were touting launch yet?
I find it funny that Atari are going backwards. Soon they'll be selling playing cards and mahjong tables.
Not the best time to build hotels when hotel business is struggling because of virus.
