Yesterday, Koei Tecmo gave Zelda fans a first look at the gameplay in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Alongside this was the reveal of a younger version of Impa (who originally appeared in Zelda: Breath of the Wild) and a brand new trailer.
While today's Tokyo Game Show event didn't show off any new characters, we at least got a better look at the Goron Champion (Daruk) and also got to see the Goron map. Here's a cut version of the broadcast, courtesy of good folks over at Miketendo64.
As you can see, Daruk comes equipped with his own protective barrier and can roll around the battlefield, just like any other Goron. There's also some other footage in there of Link and Impa.
In addition to this, we've rounded up some screenshots of the footage featured during today's TGS livestream. Here they are:
What did you think of Daruk in action? What other characters would you like to see in this game? Tell us down below.

Wow, looks great.
My favorite character.
This keeps getting better! Hopefully they don't show everything though, if it's this high quality I want some suprises.
I'm slightly concerned about the general lack of enemy types. One of the few weaknesses of BoTW
In the Link and Impa gameplay footage they showed, it looks like some weapons, such as fire and ice rods will be breakable
all of the yes
@Guddy If it helps, all the gameplay footage we've seen so far is from the first couple of levels. The cutscenes from later in the game have shown a number of other enemy types (Yiga Clan, Skeletal enemies, Guardians), suggesting that we'll see more as the game goes on.
@MasterJay I don't think it's based on the weapon type exactly. It looks more like whatever weapon set you equip when you enter the level is unbreakable, but unlike previous warriors games you can find weapons to change your style mid-battle. Those ones can break with use however, forcing you back to your original style. So it's likely if you started a level with the fire rod equipped it wouldn't break.
How about Monster Hunter Rise gameplay footage Nintendolife?
The more I see of this, the more excited I am about it. Used to be a huge Dynasty Warriors fan in the PS2 days but it grew stale. I love how much they are incorporating from BotW.
My only disappointment is no wireless multiplayer. I LOVE local/spmit screen co-op so I’m very happy about that but as a Switch exclusive there is no excuse not to allow wireless local co-op ala MK8D & Splatoon 2. Good luck playing this in co-op on a Switch Lite.
We have some great footage of a game! What should we do to make sure no one enjoys it??
-Let's shrink it, reduce the resolution, and put a bunch of useless stuff on screen.
Done!
-Hummm ... it's still kinda watchable. Maybe talk over the whole thing?
Perfect!
Watching a grown man scream “yo yo yo yo!” is up there on the worst things ever list.
Game looks good!
Excited to purchase it used for half price due to no online component, however.
@HeadPirate that brings me memories when the N64 came out and I could only see some super tiny Ocarina of Time and F-zero X pictures taken with a camera in front of a TV in a magazine. The picture quality was really bad. The next issue included a VHS with an N64 promo trailer that I watched thousands of times to see just a very few seconds of Ocarina of Time in motion. In the end the tape was so degraded that I could barely see anything hahhahaha
I just hope this doesn’t cook my switch like the prior Hyrule Warriors did.
@link3710
I think instead some weapons are "items" that can break (like Fire/Ice/Lightning Rods) and others are warriors' standard equips…
@Supadav03
Have you tried handheld mode with Hyrule Warriors DE? It's really glitchy.
I'd probably recommend staying far away from handheld play with the sequel, too.
That said, I did enjoy on the Wii U playing multiplayer with me on the Game Pad and my partner on the TV. Just can't do that with the Switch, but assuming the game didn't glitch out/have a lot of popping issues with handheld play, it would have been fun to do local wireless multiplayer in handheld mode. I just don't think that quite works given that the game would have a hard time handling multiple users trying to play the same game and gain levels and how the loot would be divied up…
Playing as a Goron rocks!
@Guddy BOTW did not really need many enemy types but i do agree with your sentiment. Musou-like games need variety in enemy types
I also do hope BOTW2 has more enemy types
I thought only firey lizalfos and black moblins could survive in the volcano environment?
Throw him into Smash!
So every champion has their own Sheikah Slate? Pretty cool. This looks like a nice blend of DW and Zelda, to a greater extent than even Hyrule Warriors did.
