Original Article (Tue 8th Sep, 2020 02:05 BST): Yet another upcoming Nintendo Switch release appears to have been leaked ahead of schedule.
This time around RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Complete Edition has reportedly been spotted in the backend of the Switch eShop. It was apparently added at the start of this month on 1st September, which supposedly indicates the game is ready to go - we just need an official reveal now.
The team behind this title is Frontier - the same publisher and developer that announced Jurassic World Evolution: Complete Edition for the Nintendo Switch at this year's digital Gamescom event.
This particular entry in the RollerCoaster Tycoon series was first released on the PC in 2004. It combines the excitement of rollercoasters with the fun of strategy simulation. Is this a game you would like to see on Switch? Tell us below.

Gimme RCT 1 & 2. I’ll buy those in a heart beat
Why one of the more mediocre titles...
I've always wanted to play one of these. As a kid I would draw my own sketches for roller coasters and pretend to ride them. I was obsessed. I'd love to play it on switch if the reviews are good.
@Apportal play RCT 1 or 2, sooooo good! They were done by Chris Sawyer. He did Transport Tycoon Deluxe back in the day, and these used the same engine. God all those games were amazing sims rivaling Simcity 1, 2000 and 3000.
If it's good, I'll get it. I've been wanting something good akin to this or SimCity for a while now
Why not RCT2? That was the best entry in the series, and had some decent add-on packs which could be included.
Hey I have never played one of them but you guys make it sound great so i'm down.
@Alaninho
I would assume Frontier ported it themselves (with Atari's approval of course), maybe to make up for the lack of Planet Coaster due to how difficult it'd be to port it.
Idk why they haven't done 2 on switch. 2 has an absolutely amazing mobile port they could easily bring over
I've never really seen the appeal of this simulation. Like, to me, this should just be part of a city sim game.
@Heavyarms55 some people like rollercoasters
I for one like the feeling of owning and controlling something massive like an amusement park, without worrying that something will happen serious in real life.
I don't know what happens behind the scene, but how is it possible to have so many more leaks than announcements??? It really feels like a game announce before being leaked is some kind of mythical creature nowadays.
This is probably one of my all time favorite games. Don't think it would work quite as well on a console but that said I would love to have it on a handheld.
@Rhaoulos people think spoiling a game is fun. It isn't. Mario 3D all stars for example could have been great surprise if it wasn't for leakers.
Unless it is close to RCT 1, forget it, the 1st one on switch was garbage, they keep releasing these casual versions, I wish they would just release the original again, so I don't have to figure out how to dual install something else with windows 10.
I grew up on tycoon 3 gold so maybe I will see this through
@SyFyTy if your referring to playing the older game on windows 10, you could just get the gog.com version, it will play on windows 10 no problem and its DRM free.
@Apportal they are pretty much taking a huge dump on people's hard work. It is annoying to us, but I can't imagine how frustrating it is for the guys in marketing preparing an awesome reveal. And I know it's journalism to report everything, but I partially blame anyone who relays the news. Without it, a simple tweet could go unnoticed.
This game is absolutely my childhood. I got the Wild expansion for Christmas when I was pretty young, back when PC games came on a disc hahaha. It was pretty great to be honest, although Planet Coaster has surpassed it, RCT3 does hold a place in my heart.
@Rhaoulos 100% agree. It's not funny, ruins the developers hard work, ruined peoples experiences. People who do that are complete trash.
@Apportal Maybe I just have to try it, but this just doesn't seem like enough to make an interesting game out of.
This is my favorite sim game ever so I am SO happy that this might actually be coming to Switch.

@Heavyarms55 I just like rollercoasters. If you don’t you probably won’t like this lol
Please bring the original roller coaster tycoon to switch. They could easily port the iPhone version.
I’d settle for part 2. This game broke my heart back in the day. I played part 1 for three days straight! My anticipation was high! The bugs hurt. I loved this series prior to part 3. A theme park management game and NOBODY rides the rides?! 🤨
I just wanna pi55 around in the sandbox mode.
@Toy_Link Well, Planet Coaster is such a massive game. One of my favorites today. It's indeed never gonna run on the Nintendo Switch.
I play it on PC every now and then. There's always a time when the urge to drop people into a lion's den comes back.
I am down for this. Don't know any of them except for the rather bad mobile one that is on Switch.
Why is everybody here not too keen about it being 3? What was the problem with it?
I've always wanted to try the main series properly on a console I handle the most (Switch nowadays). I only ever dabbled in the game in the past.
Suits portable, you feel, though that may be just me. I'll wait for reviews too.
They need to do a better job than Rollercoaster Tycoon Adventures Switch & the 3DS version of RCT though as they had issues with performance & other various things.
@Heavyarms55 3 isn't as good as 1 or 2, but there's plenty to make a game out of. It's just as big as your average City SIM, so I don't see how something with the scope of RCT can be a part of it. The campaigns were brilliant. I must've played the first game for hundreds of hours back in the day.
@Toy_Link I am super excited. 3 was probably the last great RCT game and it was miles ahead of the first two imo. I'm also looking forward to Jurassic World Evolution 👏👏👏
Making Swimming pools zoos and Rollercoasters 3 was amazing. 1 and 2 are currently mainly handled by Atari, which is the company that also gave us rollercoaster touch, for switch and other microtransaction ridden games. Frontier however is the awesome dev who still makes great tycoon games. I have 3 on iOS but it’s not the complete edition, I will probably double dip although I expect this one to be over the 9,99 App Store price.
It's going to be Planet Coaster on PS5 for me. The unofficial but real sequel to Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 and 2.
There is a bit of my childhood. One of the only games I played as a kid until I got my Wii and learned about Nintendo. Pretty cool.
I'm more interested in Jurassic park complete, will this be coming to PS4 too I wonder? I'm glad I haven't brought it yet.
The one not made by Chris Sawyer? Yeah nah.
I loved this one, its still good fun and you can first-person sit inside all rides and "ride" them. I also played rct 1 and 2 but would prefer this one. If they have it as a physical, i am soooold.
A shame it isn't a port of the RCT Classic that Sawyer did a couple years back. Would fit perfectly on Switch (or console in general really).
RCT3 was pretty good, but felt it going full 3D ruined a lot of its charm.
Yes, RCT 1&2/ Classic are better. But I am perfectly happy having 3 come to Switch with their DLC's.
Played so much of RCT3 in the early 2000s!
Will be great having this on the go and Planet Coaster on PS5!
RCT3, Rise of the triad, ninja gaiden trilogy all coming to Switch. Damn, these are all very cool 😎
Port RCT Classic and then we'll talk.
HELL YESSSSSSSSSSSS OMGGGGGGGG You might be able to tell that i'm a little bit excited about this
Give me da goods!!!!!
$34.99 on the Canadian eshop.
RCT3's early 3D hasn't aged very well for me, even though it was a huge part of my life growing up. The 2D ones definitely kept a little more of their charm.
And I was pretty into the RCT3 modding scene, which got ridiculously huge. (Probably a lot of mods are lost to time now, as early 2000s sites shut down.) I don't care how much they've "enhanced visuals", I personally probably couldn't go back to just what was in the game. .... Except when I did, as a fun challenge.
There's a lot there, especially with all the expansions, so I recommend it to anyone interested. But it was always a bit clunky.
Wow, this doesn't look awful, and only
$30.
Yeah nvm
Uff 30€... no way I am paying that. Way too expensive for a game that old. Heck, even Mario Sunshine or Galaxy are cheaper (20 each in the All Stars Collection)
Played the original back in the day and absolutely loved it. If this is a decent port may give it a shot.
The graphics look rather rough and $30 is a bit high. I'll think on it.
Hopefully it has a physical copy as I've just built myself a new custom switch games shelf and need to fill it.
Considering the hours I lost to this as a kid and that $30 is probably way less than I originally payed for all the parts, this is an instant buy for me.
I played the first game to death on PC back in the day; it's probably up in my top five of overall game hours clocked. I also liked the second one but didn't really care for the Six Flags segments. Never played this iteration, so I might grab it down the line if it reviews well and isn't a lazy, clunky port.
Hmm. I do wonder if this is worth it honestly. I played the first game a lot and I hear most people saying that the first and second are the pinnacle of the series; dunno how the third holds up...
@Yosher I was thinking the same, I used to play a lot the first one, I don't know how this one is, but reading all this comments about it, I think I'll wait for a review first.
I love how much of a resurgence this series is seeing.
I'm looking forward to this! I don't know how well RCT3 stacks up against the first two, I never played them, but I had a lot of fun with it.
@HotGoomba I actually prefer this one. And I've played a ton of 1-3. I like the enhanced visuals (now dated), and the fps rides, and it just felt more modern.
@Yosher I like 3 a lot. If people say it's "mediocre" it's because IMO all it did was give it a huge graphics upgrade. But it still plays fantastic
Thats very nice.
@Heavyarms55 Nah, I can't speak for 3 which is after Atari ran the series into the ground (Hey, it's Atari, it's kinda their thing.....)
But RCT1 and especially 2 were deep, deep full featured sims. You'd never have the same person running a theme park and a city in real life because both are full time jobs. Same in a sim.. There's more than enough chaos going on in the park to keep you more than busy. You have hundreds of acres of landscaping, ride management, revenue management, customer pleasing, safety, sanitation, the theme part equivalent of "retention and attaction" (a.k.a. laying things out so as to keep guests delving deeper into the park, not just up front and leaving due to boredom etc., keeping them spending on rides, souvenirs, food, etc. It's not just about building coasters that don't fly off the tracks....though there's that too (and running out of money trying to do it!) it's about managing guest happeniness, income, etc. it's not just a coaster builder. It's a full-on theme park design and management sim. Financials, pixie dust, and all.
In real life the coaster companies manage coaster design for a given landscape, so it's kind of 2 sims in one. Though, in real life, some coasters are also poorly designed and tend to lose momentum and get stuck, as well...
At least the Chris Sawyer sims were great. 3 onward.....it looks pretty, but I'm not so sure it's a complete game like the first two. That new park sim they showcased in the XBox showcase might pick up the torch, we'll see.
@Alienfreaks04 Yeah ok, you're right, might just be my absolute love for 1 and 2 lol
Rather have Zoo Tycoon tbh
Love this game! Spent many days/weeks playing it on the PC when I was a bit younger. Tried to boot it last year on the old disc I had but couldn’t get it to run on PC.
Looked into RCT4 (reviews *****!) then looked into Planet Coaster ....that would have involved spending £100s on new graphics cards, was disappointed! So the fact I am going to be able to build new parks on the SWITCH is freaking amazing, can not wait happy switch owner!
Sunk so much time into this series back in the day. Love to see these sims hitting Switch.
@NEStalgia So it's more of a theme park simulator?
One thing which might make me not going to buy it is the controls. I remembered i was exciting for Worms WMD back then because i played it on PC a lot. But turns out on the switch it was not a lot of fun to play due to the controls. I am afraid it might happen again with rct3.
@NEStalgia
"That new park sim they showcased in the XBox showcase might pick up the torch, we'll see."
Are you talking about Planet Coaster? Because that's actually made by the same developers as this game.
@Toy_Link huh, interesting. I was hoping it was Sawyer's crew working on that one...
@Heavyarms55 bingo! At least 1 and 2. And Sawyer knows a thing or two about sims. This tried to follow his lead, but i hear it's not as good as his. You have to watch the income per attraction, listen to guest reactions to figure out what's working or not etc. I always go bankrupt.
RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic was a remastered edition by Chris Sawyer in 2017, that is currently the best version of RCT game - which should be the one ported to Switch, not this junk 3d wannabe crap.
@NEStalgia
It's already critically acclaimed on PC, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Only reason I haven't really played it for myself is because it ran like crap (even at low settings) on the PC I use. I refunded it immediately.
Hopefully it runs better on the twins!
I loved this game on pc - absolutely superb. It’s a must buy from me.
To those missing RCT2 - Check out OpenRCT2, an open source version of the old title. Basically the same game, but with some updates to make it run well on modern computers and a couple QOL changes.
@PikaPhantom Have you played Cities Skylines?
@TOMAWOLF No, but I've heard there are a lot of technical problems with the Switch version
@PikaPhantom That's a shame. I have it and enjoy it. It's not perfect but I've built some rather large cities and it holds up. Should consider it again if its ever a price you like.
@TOMAWOLF Good to know, thanks
This game was my jam a decade ago. I will TOTALLY be getting for my Switch.
@dok5555555thank you
