Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for 31st August - 6th September, revealing that Ring Fit Adventure has managed to fend off the competition to secure a number one spot.
The game, which also secured second place last week, sold more physical copies than new PS4 title Marvel's Avengers. Ring Fit's 63,958 sales mean that it has almost sold 1.5 million units in Japan alone.
Chart regular Animal Crossing: New Horizons is in at number three this week, with Switch taking six of the top ten positions in total.
Here are the top 10 (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):

still need get a copy but with SM 3d collection and mario kart live its on hold.
So was Animal Crossing out of stock or has it finally plateaued?
Good to see Microtransaction's Avengers not take first place.
Looks like Ring Fit is this gens Wii Fit, but better.
I finally snagged Ring Fit two weeks ago, and love it. I now understand how it's sold so many copies. I never played Wii Fit, but I had the Kinect Adventure and Dance Central games. Ring Fit is much more enjoyable than Kinect Adventure for me.
Sounds like the Ring Fit Trainee is the only Avenger Japan needs.
It didn't just beat it, it sold half as much again... long reign Ring Fit!!
Good, honestly I'm getting kind of tired of seeing Marvel everywhere, it has lost its appeal. This coming from someone who loved Marvel.
What's the word for it? Oversaturation I think.
@Arkay The Marvel movies only serve the purpose of building the next Avengers movie and they have no depth.
In recent years, Into the Spiderverse and Logan have been the only interesting ones.
It's crazy that RFA, of all games, can be number one almost a year after its original release. I'm happy though, maybe we'll be getting some DLC for it or even RFA2 further down the road.
I'm on the next to last world in my first run through. I work out with it two or three times a week depending on my schedule. It's a great workout and has done good things for my body.
Glad to see Clubhouse Games hanging in there.
Just wondering whether Ring Fit will get an expansion in the new year. Normally the best time of year to sell fitness equipment.
It's been a real success for Nintendo so far.
The New 2DS LL (XL where I live) is more better selling in Japan than PS4 Pro and Both Xbox Ones, is that even LEGAL!?
I played Avengers, I tried to get into it but bailed after 3 hours. Its just tedious! I got fed up of going to AIM facilities over and over and the combat is so weak. I went and played Hulk Ultimate Destruction and thats still a lot of fun
An old Gamecube licensed game should not be 10 times more entertaining than a modern game that took many millions more to cost and was developed by a good dev!
You know why Ring Fit Adventure beat Avengers to number 1? Because the Japanese are smart enough to not allow microtransaction filled nonsense to do so!
@fox_mattcloud That wouldn't explain the bouyant mobile market filled with "gatcha" games to a level we can barely comprehend though!
I'd pay for a new DLC campaign right about now. Something to keep me motivated and playing. Got demoralized on the whole "no date" thing over the Summer, and now DOMS is smacking me around! 😭
@roboshort "Marvel movies have no depth"
You know literary education has become nominal worldwide when audiences can't even analyze a Hollywood blockbuster. ¯(ツ)/¯
@roboshort I agree they have become so predictable. I have yet to see Into the Spiderverse and I'll admit it does look much more interesting.
Your sales are so shiny and beautiful!
I would love to see DLC for RingFit Adventure.
My son was starting to put on weight during the confinement.
Now when I wake up, he's been running and burning calories sometimes for over an hour (he wakes up at 7 me at 8).
Thats abysmal for the Avengers but also well deserved
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 (Switch) 9,436
Marvel Avengers (PS4) 42,979
It is Japan and another mediocre western game with the "Marvel" logo on it. Not sure why anyone would think this would end any different.
Good to see Ring Fit doing so well, it's a big middle finger to those who thought it would disappear after two weeks...
@nhSnork We already had a multipage thread discussing that BotW has 'no story', as further evidence of this failure in comprehension.
Surprising that clubhouse games is doing so well.
Next week, Ring Fit Adventure will sell more copies in 2020 alone than FFVII Remake, making it the 2nd best-selling game of the year behind Animal Crossing New Horizons.
Launch / LTD retail sales of all 3D Mario games:
> Super Mario 64: 162,111 / 1.647 million
> Super Mario Sunshine: 280,610 / 790,000
> Super Mario 64 DS: 120,062 / 1.232 million
> Super Mario Galaxy: 256,341 / 1.026 million
> Super Mario Galaxy 2: 337,569 / 1.047 million
> Super Mario 3D Land: 344,698 / 2.112 million
> Super Mario 3D World: 106,967 / 602,234
> Super Mario Odyssey: 512,000 / 2.120 million
> Super Mario 3D All-Stars: ???
3D All-Stars' retail launch sales may be constrained by supply, but initial demand is high.
It will also have the biggest digital launch among all the 3D Mario games by a huge margin.
@WiltonRoots The biggest middle finger would be a Ring Fit Adventure amiibo. Preferably via Smash.
@westman98
Thanks for the numbers!
Mario Galaxy 2 sold better than the first one in Japan.
Amazing!
As much as any of us easily get frustrated with Nintendo's methods...seriously look at those numbers! They kill the competition even when something new and shiny takes the spotlight. It's like the competition makes games that are good for sprinting while Nintendo makes games for the marathon.
@Benji80
Ironic thing is that one of the user attacking that poster, goes on massive tirades against "the fans" whenever they can find an opportunity to do so.
But they're acting like a massive toxic fan boy/girl by basically saying "You're not smart enough to understand these movies RubADub DubDub!" Instead of 'ya know, giving good examples of depth in these movies.
I like the Ring Fit. If I had a normal schedule, I feel like over time it would actually work for me.
I love Marvel's Avengers. Really good story, and combat is fun, especially once you upgrade your skills. Definitely understand it won't be for everyone.
I'd like to pick up Ring Fit Adventure, if it is ever available again.
Animal Crossing in 3rd place? I am sure Nintendo must be really disappointed in its performance. But what could they expect? It is missing so much content. They should have released it when everything was ready. The last statement is not to be taken seriously.
@westman98 Thanks for those figures. Very interesting. Odyssey’s launch sales were incredible - but think how many more Switches there are in circulation now!
Literally bought Ring Fit Adventure just today. Quarantine forced me into it!
Wow PS4 doesn't even make it to 2,000 in terms of units sold even when you combined both sales of the base and pro models. I figure most of the people buying PS4 at this point are just online vendor buying it to resell it later on.
Very low for animal crossing
Nintendo should create another game that will support ring fit
Xbox sales in Japan are like rounding errors to the other systems. I mean, come on. I know MS is a western company, but it's not that bad of a console.
RIP PS4. You had a good run.
Just for fun, they could start listing the actual names of the people who buy XBoxes every week over there!
Switch - 53,745
PS4 - 2045
XBoxX - Dave, Edith, Steven and Terry
@Batty5
Nintendo is disappointed that Animal Crossing New Horizons is the fastest-selling game of all time in Japan?
@Batty5
?
Animal Crossing has already sold 5M+ in just a matter of months in Japan alone, and is on track to be the best selling game all-time in Japan.
I'll never understand why super high selling Nintendo software is still considered disappointing.
@westman98 @KryptoniteKrunch @Batty5 was pulling people's legs, he's messing around.
@WiltonRoots
Whoops.
@KryptoniteKrunch With regards to becoming the best selling game of all time in Japan, the notable dip in pace actually indicates that New Horizons might not track well enough to manage the approximately 2.5+ million units it needs to manage that particular milestone.
@Stoic
A large chunk of Animal Crossing retail sales come from the Animal Crossing Switch bundle, which is starting to become harder to come by in the recent weeks.
@westman98 There's no clear data on that as far as I know, nor has there been a degree of stock for the Switch wholesale, let alone the limited edition, to reasonably say that it accounts for a sizable portion of the total. The last record I've found for availability of the Japanese bundle is also late May.
@Stoic
Up until recently, Japanese lotteries were selling anywhere from decent to large quantities of Animal Crossing Switch bundles.
@westman98 Again, not something I can find any evidence of. The only mention I've managed to pull up past the May shipments was a first party My Nintendo lotto from June 9th. There's no mention of how many units were up for grabs and, in fact, the announcement mentions continued production shortages across all Switches, encouraging those who want a regular console to enter. Most results show that regular Switches in general are being put up in lottos by other places as well.
Update: I'm finding a few lottos here and there through blogs that do include the bundle, but there's not much around to indicate breadth of opportunity and nothing to indicate volume so far as I can see.
