Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for 27th July - 2nd August, revealing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been knocked down to second place.
Nintendo's cuddly life sim is still selling decent numbers - even if its weekly total has fallen since last time around - but PS4's Mobile Suit Gundam is to blame for the fall in position. Bandai Namco's action title sold an estimated 123,147 physical copies to claim first place.
Elsewhere, Switch newcomer Fairy Tail debuted in seventh place, ahead of the PS4 version which has landed in ninth. Nintendo Switch games make up seven of the top ten this week.
Here are the top 10 (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):
1) [PS4] Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. MaxiBoost On (Bandai Namco Games) {2020.07.30} - 123.147 / NEW
2) [NSW] Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo) {2020.03.20} - 56.730 / 5.337.128
3) [NSW] Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo) {2019.10.18} - 37.217 / 1.242.596
4) [PS4] Ghost of Tsushima (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2020.07.17} - 31.932 / 298.234

The Switch Lite saw a slight boost in sales this week, but Switch family sales as a whole took a bit of a tumble. Here are this week's figures, followed by lifetime sales in brackets:
Nintendo Switch: 66,512 (12,079,510)
PlayStation 4: 3,077 (7,632,713)
PlayStation 4 Pro: 948 (1,569,307)

Ooh! An exciting first post Mario Kart still doing well. I really wish they’d drop some DLC for it. I’d happily part with $20 for some new tracks.
Only 7 Switch titles in the top 10?!
Well it was a good run but had to end sometime, pack it up Nintendo you're done!!
ACNH on Top 3 position was a direct message for Xbox.
Japanese players love Kawaii games.
Microsoft must think Kawaii / Japanese to sell their Xbox on Japan.
Sony sold one copy for every letter in the title ‘ Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. MaxiBoost On’.
The longer the title, the more sales you apparantly have in Japan.
#Nintendoomed
As much as I love Gundam, I tried the Gundam Vs title on the PS3 and basically if you’re not interested in multiplayer, ain’t worth it. Shame as I remember the PS2 titles that had full on campaigns.
Animal crossing sales are insane.
@KIRO Agree, I think a couple more Cups would go down a treat... Unfortunately at this point with the game selling so well still the next tracks we will see will be in the next version of Mario Kart...
I wonder if the Switch will double the PS4 lifetime sales in the next year or so? Nintendo seems to own their country with an iron fist.
@progx In Japan I am assuming, possibly. At present to do that, they would need to sale another 3.9 million and that is assuming no more PS4s were sold in the interim. If you mean world-wide, can't see that ever happening, since that would be 224 million Switch units sold which would be about 69 million more than the PS2.
@MS7000 World-wide... I'm cautious about that claim. If the PS4 continues to sell at its average, it may be possible they could extend their lead in Japan where they wouldn't be catchable.
If Nintendo updates the Switch line every 3-4 years similar to how Apple updates the iPhone/iPad/Apple TV, then who knows where the worldwide number will go. The increments won't be yearly, but released where you may just go and upgrade.
Is paper mario struggling or are those numbers inline?
Oh my, poor Xbox, only 42 sold, jeez.
AND this year's overall Japan sales for the Xbox Family is LESS than this week's sales for just the standard Nintendo Switch Model.
According to Nintendo's financial report, Animal Crossing New Horizons has shipped 7.15 million retail + digital copies in Japan.
Best-selling games of all time in Japan as of June 2020 (retail + digital shipments):
1) [NGB] Pokémon Red/Green/Blue: 10.25 million
2) [NGB] Pokémon Gold/Silver: 7.20 million
3) [NSW] Animal Crossing New Horizons: 7.15 million
Absurd numbers at this point, given that New Horizons has most likely outsold Gold/Silver by now.
@KIRO If they make new Mario Kart content, I hope they release an all new game. I already spent $75 (U.S.) on Mario Kart 8 plus DLC for the Wii U. I refuse to spend another $60 for the same thing, just to be able to buy more DLC. I realize this isn't an issue for people that didn't own a Wii U, but if they start expanding MK8 for Switch, it's a huge F-U to people who did.
That was a point I hadn’t considered and you’re right.
I wish people wouldn't buy Fairy Tail because it's a horrible over priced mess and we deserve better. This just sends the message that the fandom will buy anything.
Amazing to see Mario Kart 8 still up there. Its a 6 year old game by now!
@lordzand or ya know people actually enjoy the game
@JustKhezu and that's cool. People can enjoy what they want. Doesn't make it any less disappointing and bad.
And the dlc is ridiculous. The game runs poorly on the Switch. I stand by my statement.
