UK book publisher Read-Only Memory has announced that it is releasing a book which charts the history of Capcom's Street Fighter II, as told by the people who made it happen.
"The culmination of several years of research by acclaimed games writer Matt Leone, Like a Hurricane gathers together over 60 voices, spread across continents, disciplines and companies, speaking candidly on the vision, fearlessness, and bold ambition that made Street Fighter II a household name," says the book's Kickstarter page, which is looking for £50,000 to make it a reality. Over £23,000 has been raised so far.
The book is made up of exclusive interviews with the likes of series creator Takashi Nishiyama, Street Fighter planner Hiroshi Matsumoto, Street Fighter II planners Akira Nishitani and Akira Yasuda, series producer Noritaka Funamizu, U.S. sales rep Brian Duke and "dozens" of others across its 280+ pages.
Like what you see? Then you might want to consider putting down some cash.

The art style is pretty cool, with it paying homage to the button commands to do combos. I'm not a huge fan of the overly minimalist layout though.
I'm not enough of a SF fan personally, but I have other ROM books (specifically the Genesis and Dreamcast Works) and can vouch for their quality. Their work is a genuine passion project for them, and it shows.
I’ve had a bad time with Kickstarter, so i won’t donate. Looks pretty neat though.
It's cool to see games like Street Fighter II being documented this well. I wish video games were better documented in general, finding information on the development process for most games is surprisingly hard.
Thanks for the head's up about this!
No photos of actual street fighter though? Is it a licensing issue?
If so, that’s a real problem... I’d want some amazing visuals thrown in...
Seems like the book for me, I love Street Fighter, history and oral!
