A new character is appearing in Dr. Mario World for a limited time, all in celebration of the franchise's 30th anniversary.
Yes, 30 years ago today, Dr. Mario first launched for the Famicom in Japan. Everyone's favourite plumber experienced quite the career change on 27th July 1990, ditching his usual Goomba-stomping, pipe-travelling, princess-saving adventures for a lovely lab coat and some hugely addictive falling block puzzle gameplay.
It's fitting, then, that the new character in question is an 8-bit version of Dr. Mario himself. As you can see in the trailer above, you'll be able to get your hands on 8-bit Dr. Mario from now until the end of August, so make sure to log in over the next month or so if you want to claim him.
Dr. Mario World players can now receive 8-bit Dr. Mario, a playable character with special skills, as a free login bonus. Put to use 8-bit Dr. Mario's signature magnifying glass to make quick work of challenges with his stage mode skill. Use his versus mode skill to prevent opponents from controlling half-capsules.

@Slowdive Yeah same. It's odd how they released a phone game but not a Switch game.
Thanks for the heads up! Haven't played this one in a long time. I just wanted the boring old fashioned mode
I literally was playing Dr. Mario last night on my Switch. It was the first time in YEARS! I had no idea. Funny how I got cocky and thought, so easy. It turned into a game of Tetris. 😂
This one is annoyingly close to being a stand up game. I'd gladly give them money for a version of this that didn't have the lootbox garbage.
I downloaded Dr Luigi on the Wii U to see what the fuss was all about with this series. It was ok, but I can see why it's not one of Nintendo's flagship franchises. The mobile game stayed on my phone for about 10 or 15 minutes. To me it felt like pretty much any other smartphone game, not worthy of being called a Nintendo title.
I loveD this game.
The pvp was so fun! but after a while it felt like rock paper scissors. Not a lot of times was it about the skill.
The pve content became boring and tedious. The game felt like a chore.
Who needs doctor Mario when you could have doctor Wario!!!
The game is amusing enough.
But it has brought us Dr Goomba Tower.
A character so amazing, they should replace Mario.
They should celebrate the anniversary of real Dr Mario by shutting down this terrible mobile game
@Not-Geno
We have Dr. Wario!
I just got all of the 3-star ratings for every level, but I’ll sign back in for this (though I doubt he will supplant Dr. Wario as my main). Also, maybe World 18 is open, now.
This game is still not available in the Brazilian App Store and I have no idea why
8-bit Dr Mario
And here we were expecting Dr Reznor or Dr Banana Peel from Mario Kart
Best version is still dr mario miracle cure on 3ds. The endless mode is great. This game however is not something I would touch.
@Dancampulung I’m talking about the extra game in mega microgames
My wife's favourite game is Dr.Mario (not sure which platform she originally played it on). She plays the mobile version all the time and would instantly buy it if there was a Switch version. My wife seems to prefer playing on her phone rather than boot up the NES online version.
I'm surprised it took them this long to add the 8bit character
Ok now thats a cool addition way better than something like Dr. goomba stack
I loved the original, and Ill love to try this one. But sadly/weirdly is not available worldwide... WHY??
Mario Run, Mario kart T., Miitome, etc where available in latin america... Why is this one different?
@Apportal Im pretty sure they are not making Pixel art because its easy... Most likely because the original is pixel art. -_-
@dux
Not in the Romanian one either.
@Odyssey27_Mario
Dr. Goomba Tower. Duh.
It's a great game even if diverts from Dr Mario. The problem is... Mario kart came out and ate it. Then I kicked that kart habit and just play Dr Mario nes on switch.
I unlocked him, but I can’t use him in stage mode. Is it just me?
