There have already been many delays this year, and now to add to this, Universal Studios in Japan has officially postponed the launch of Super Nintendo World. Sorry folks, but the park will no longer open this summer due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It's not exactly a surprise after the 2020 Summer Olympics got pushed back to 2021 for the same reason. The opening of Super Nintendo World was meant to line-up with Tokyo 2020, but the plan is to now hold off until Fall or next year according to Nikkei.
Over the past month, there have been regular park updates - with most of it reportedly complete. Just last weekend, a new video of Yoshi in action was shared online, and prior to this, there was a first look at some spinning coins.

It's not like I had the time or money to visit this year anyways...
Good news!
My wallet is not prepare yet.😅
Noooo! I was planning a trip in September! 😢😢😢 I try to visit Japan every year. This may not be the year to visit. I don’t even think they want us there due to our high infection rate. 😭😭😭
Universal Studios Japan opened up more than two weeks ago though only for locals, they're waiting until they fully reopen and have all their operations all sorted out to open this up.
I expect the same thing for Tokyo DL's New Fantasyland and WDW's Ratatouille ride.
Sad but necessary
...Will someone please explain to me how the comment section here, in only a few posts, went completely off-topic?
On-topic: This is unsurprising, yet understandable. Besides, more time = more innovation!
Obviously the human and economic costs of the pandemic are the real concern... but it's also sad how much it will push back theme parks, live shows, movies, concerts, etc. I don't expect SNW to open in the US for a decade. We may return to normal in a year or so. Rebooting all these industries will take much, much longer 😥.
@mesome713 We have to keep our chin up and do the right thing, we will survive. Humanity is tough.
@EVIL-C Probably the wrong forum for that kind of talk. I mean, you did your little “gotcha” thing there, meanwhile the rest of the world moves on.
The right move...and not all that surprising. Good shout, Universal and Nintendo.
