Sega has just announced the Game Gear Micro. As the name suggests, this is a micro version of its original 1990 handheld. This smaller system will launch in Japan on 6th October for ¥4,980 - which is expected to equate to about $50 / €50 locally.

It will be available in black, blue, yellow and red, and each colour will include four different games. Yes, you read correctly. Here's the line-up for each one:

  • Black: Out Run, Puyo Puyo Tsu, Royal Stone, Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Blue: Baku Baku Animal: Sekai Shiikugakari Senshuken, Gunstar Heroes, Sonic & Tails, Sylvan Tale
  • Yellow: Nazo Puyo: Arle no Roux, Shining Force, Shining Force II, Shining Force: Final Conflict
  • Red: Columns, The G.G. Shinobi, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special

Here are the measurements of the unit: 80 mm wide, 43 mm tall, and 20 mm deep with a 1.15-inch display. It also includes a single mono speaker, a headphone jack, and runs on two AAA batteries. Alternatively, you can play for a longer period of time with a USB cable (sold separately).

The Game Gear Micro will come with a "Big Window Micro" if you buy an entire set (valued at ¥29,980) containing all four colours. This is an accessory based on the same one released for the original system many years ago, and can be used to magnify the size of the screen.
