Like many one-on-one fighters, SNK's Samurai Shodown reboot is getting a bunch of DLC characters, and during yesterday's New Game+ Expo live stream, it was confirmed that the next character is Warden from Ubisoft’s For Honor. The character will be made available today (June 24th).
Warden, as you can see from the video above, is a knight character who brandishes a large sword and calls upon a catapult as one of his specials. He costs $5.99, and is included as part of the game's second Season Pass, which costs $19.99.

Well.....That's weird considering they could have used almost anyone from the Soul Calibur games.
@JuiceMan_V
SC is 3D. SamSho is 2D. Plus they likely wanted to get more Western exposure.
@JR150
For Honor is 3D as well and not many people are still playing that game.
As much as I like For Honor this is weird, a good sort of weird but still very odd.
I was expecting fan favorites like Cham Cham, Yuga, Amakusa, or Gaira to be the final season 2 DLC fighter, kinda disappointed that they choose a guest character instead but hopefully he plays well. Considering every fighting game (other than Street Fighter, Bloody Roar, and Guilty Gear) had guest characters now, it would benefit SNK to follow suit as well.
@ReaperExTenebris yup. and Haohmaru is DLC for Soul Calibur 6. released about a month or so ago. so for there to be no SC character in SamSho is a little odd.
Why is that odd? Akuma got into Tekken 7 but you don't see a Tekken character in Street Fighter V. Just cause a Samurai Shodown character made it to Soul Calibur VI doesn't mean a Soul Calibur character would cross back to Samurai Shodown. Sure it'll make sense if it happen but doesn't always work that way.
@retro_player_77
Right, so they do what's totally out of left field and nonsensical by putting the For Honor guy in the game. 🙄
@JuiceMan_V It's licensing issue, SNK can't afford to put Soul Calibur characters in Samurai Shodown as they are a smaller company and doesn't had the money to afford big name fighter. Big companies like Namco, Nintendo, and NetherRealm Studio could include bigger name guest characters for their games cause they are bigger, had more money and could afford to get more but SNK is a really small company (which is a shame cause they use to be big) so the only name they could afford to get for a guest character is Warden, he's cheaper and more affordable to get in the game. I'm sure if they could get a hold of guys like Nightmare, Siegfried, Kilik, Mitsurugi, Taki, Seung Mina, or Sophitia they will but they gotta get what they could afford and the For Honor guy is at least an honorable choice. It's also the reason why Namco could afford their character for SC but SNK can't afford to get one of Namco for SNK's own fighting game.
@retro_player_77
How do you know it's a licensing issue?
@JuiceMan_V They couldn't get the license to use Namco's character cause they don't have the money. Either that or Namco had no confident in letting them use their character or SNK just don't like using popular character or they are fan of the For Honor game. At least they are being different with their guest choice, I mean c'mon there's nothing wrong with being different here.
i havent played For Honor but this made me interested in trying it
@retro_player_77 Maybe theres a reason why Tekken characters arent in Street Fighter V. Maybe something happened inbetween ST 4 and SF V that made Capcom want to distance themselves from that idea, hint hint.
DLC is typically decided way in advance, so maybe Soul Calibur was discussed but wasn't decided on OR it might be there in the future.
Still, the For Honor guy is way out of left field and isn't particular;y something to get hyped about even if it's "different".
@8bitdaysaweek It's a trainwreck of a game that got murdered by p2p connections (and hacking).
Amazing concept, great game execution, but complete failure of online management.
At least he somewhat fits in. I found some of the guests in SoulCalibur very irritating.
@retro_player_77 Street fighter X Tekken has a word with you and the floating in outer space Tekken X street fighter does as well lol, but I know what you mean man https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/harada-asks-fans-if-they-still-really-want-tekken-x-street-fighter/
Cool addition, I'll definitely try him out. I'm still hoping that Gen-an and Amuakusa get in eventually.
Tried out For Honor on my Xbox One. It was a freebie with Gold... I think? Anyhow, played it for a couple of hours, it wasn't really fun to me. Glad it never came to the Switch...yet.
looks totally out of place
Terrible choice.
Sakurai: I'm not that high on having western characters into my game.
SNK, Capcom, & Namco: $$$
@FlashBoomerang Only because you didn't play it?
@backup368 If you really tink is because it I said that, is better I don't even explain.
Finally, warden-san gets his moment to shine!
@JuiceMan_V I don’t think Namco would be too keen on letting SoulCalibur characters get sliced in half.
