A new and potentially game-changing feature is set to burst onto the Pokémon GO scene, with Mega Evolution planned to appear later this year.

The news was revealed during the Pokémon Presents livestream, where The Pokémon Company gave us our first tease of the upcoming feature with a short trailer. "Fans can look forward to experiencing a new take on Mega Evolution that takes advantage of Pokémon GO’s unique gameplay," the press release reads.

Mega Evolution is a temporary evolution method that was first introduced in Pokémon X and Y. In the main series, players can perform the transformation once in battle so long as their chosen Pokémon is holding a necessary Mega Stone. No further details have been shared on how it'll work in Pokémon GO just yet, but it's scheduled to arrive in 2020.

Elsewhere, Galarian Farfetch’d has also appeared in the game, with new special avatar items based on Pokémon Sword and Shield's newly released DLC also being revealed. Take a look:

The live stream also revealed that a brand new Pokémon Snap game is in the works, new game, Pokémon Cafe Mix, a free Pokémon app to help children brush their teeth, and another "big" announcement has also been teased for next week.
