PlatinumGames' Wii U release The Wonderful 101 has finally returned. After a successful Kickstarter The Wonderful 101: Remastered is now available on the Switch eShop in the US. It'll set you back $39.99 and requires a total of 7.6 GB of space.
If you're still not sure whether it's right for you, why not read our review - we gave it eight out of ten stars and said it was one of the most memorable action games you'll ever play, despite a number of the original flaws remaining untouched.
Unfortunately, if you're more interested in the retail release within this region, you'll just have to wait until 30th June, after it was delayed due to the effects of the coronavirus outbreak.
As for Europe, the game will be ready to download from the eShop on 22nd May. And the retail release within this region has been pushed back to 3rd July. Physical Kickstarter backers may also have to wait until "late June" for their copy to arrive.
Have you downloaded the remaster yet, or are you holding out for a physical release? Leave a comment below.

I played it for Wii U and it was great, but not enough to double dip at a full price, especially if it doesn't add anything new and the performance is not that great. I'll wait for an eventual sale.
@mesome713 Oh you mean how they had to give free digital copies to backers to make up for a pandemic that was in no way shape or form their fault?
Or you mean the blank codes that took a couple days to replace?
What a mess!
EDIT: The codes were replaced within the same day, my bad.
@PcTV Not days, but literally minutes.
@PcTV I mean the poor job on misleading people with their Kickstart and the poor job they did on their remaster quality. Now the physical is releasing way after the digital. Steam code when they wanted a Switch code. Backers are gonna be last to get the game and play. This game should have been delayed and not rushed out.
And I have seen zero advertising for the game, this game is gonna sell very poorly.
I will not reward poor work. Try better next time.
@mesome713 I'd like to know exactly how were backers missled.
I don't know about you, but I actually backed this game and pledged for one of the physical tiers. (I really wanted that CD)
On May 7th they gave me the digital code for the Steam version for free in compensation of me waiting more than expected when, quite frankly, it wasn't even their fault, but I appreciated their gesture, and makes me wanna support them whenever they make another crowdfund.
@rushiosan Oh, my bad. I edited my comment to correct the record.
Screw Platinum. I will never buy another product of theirs. I backed the physical and now am receiving it after it’s release date. That wasn’t what I had signed up for. They could have easily delayed the digital release to show respect to their backers.
I know not everyone will agree, or think I’m being unsympathetic to the world situation, but you could easily have pushed back the digital release to make their backers feel respected.
As it stands, it looks like they used the backers, and don’t give a damn.
Already bought the game on Switch. It's awesome, though understanding a few things can take a bit of time, they could have been better explained. Despite that, oerall it's been great so far.

@TimboSlice Uh... I don't get it... You... You're throwing a tantrum over people having access to the game first if they buy digitally, due to a global Pandemic causing a delay of physical copies...?
...Eh, suit yourself. I'm off to keep on playing the second mission. Wonder Pink just joined. Awesome.
Still have it on my WiiU. Will double with Switch.
@SmileMan64 not a tantrum, an opinion. Shared by many. And to calm down replies like yours, I prefaced it saying not everyone would agree. Relax.
@PcTV They used the Kickstart to simply gauge interest. But waited till way later to make it known. Was misleading, making people think they actually needed more help than they actually did.
They should have just delayed it. Very poor decision on their part, they screwed a lot of people over.
@mesome713 We’re facing a damn pandemic and everything was already done and set to release this May, only physical got pushed due to obvious reasons you somehow fail to understand. They fixed the e-mail issue in thirty minutes, they provided free Steam codes for anyone who ordered physical. What else do you want? A t-shirt and an apology letter?
Get real.
@rushiosan They should have just delayed it like a smart company would have done. People would have understood and not taken them for a joke. They'll learn though hopefully, if not, they be back to working for other companies in no time.
And nobody wants a stupid Steam code. They want the game on Switch, give us a Switch code. What a stupid company. Who makes desicions like this.
@mesome713 Uhm... And you use crowdfunding why, if not to gauge interest in your product and help it release to market?
How selfish of you, to pin on Platinum issues caused by a global pandemic just because some people get to play digitally before you get your physical copy.
@mesome713 That’s exactly what they did. They delayed what should have been delayed and provided the codes to anyone who backed the project, two weeks before the (digital) release date.
The reaction would’ve been much worse if they delayed everything, and you would probably be pitchforking them for pushing back the game, given you’re incapable of understanding our current context. Leave the hypocrisy aside.
It's not a remaster, It's a really bad port..
@rushiosan They only delayed the physical copy. They should have delayed the whole game. Who cares about stupid Steam codes when you cant play the game on the device you want to. They should have gave Switch eshop codes for gamers who want to play on Switch and not have to wait over a month.
And a proper delay would have also gave them more time to fix the poorly running port. They rushed this port and it performs worst on Switch than it did on Wii U. That's embrassing.
@mesome713 wow... you sound like a spoiled child.... there's a massive backlog of games!! Be a normal person and wait another month instead of yelling like a 5 year old.
"I WANT IT NOW, I WANT IT NOW!! I HATE THIS COMPANY!! I WANT IT NOW!!"
I funded the project and I'm giving them some slack... I have other games to play in the meantime. There's a pandemic for f*cks sake.
@fafonio I never said I wanted it now. They should have delayed it altogether and not give Switch owners silly Steam keys, give them Switch keys. And they should have polished the game more with the extra time. It runs worst than the Wii U version.
@mesome713 if I wanted the digital game I wouldn't have funded it in the first place. The Steam key is a nice touch since they didn't need to do that. As for the Switch key... why? So they would give you a Switch key and cancel your physical order?
Each Switch key is one less sale since everybody is selling their steam keys or gifting them... now imagine a Switch key.
If you're saying that the game would fail, imagine now with sales cut in half by gifting them.
I dont mind waiting. I have tons of games to play and catch up to.
And they wouldn't even had the time to polish it since the pandemic would have ocurred.
Also, is framerate such a big deal? I mean, they updated it and it was during a cutscene.
I'll gladly sacrifice a bit of fps for such an action game.
Also I understand that they are still and indie company, they are talented and I dont mind if they make some logistic mistakes as long as they keep delivering original and fun games, which, in the end, this is what its all about.
They have given me Bayonetta 1&2, Vanquish, Mad World, Nier Automata, W101, Astral Chain, MGS Revengeance... hell even Star Fox Zero....with that pedigree ohh you bet I'll keep supporting them even if they fumble from time to time, which isn't even that serious to start with.
@fafonio Switch key would let me play the game on the device I want. I could sell the Switch key too. It's same thing as Steam key. It's just sad to see the game run worst on Switch than Wii U. They should have polished it more. They handled this game poorly, and now they be faced with poor sales because of it. I feel bad for them.
@mesome713 the thing is that they didn't have to even send free keys in the first place. If you wanted digital in the first place you would have funded the digital reward. If you wanted physical and you funded physical, you sure as hell wouldn't want a digital key to replace your purchase.
If they start handing Switch keys they would be losing their main console where most of the sales will come from. Not Steam, not PS4, they do know their market is on Switch.
As I already explained, each Switch key handed for free would result in a sale lost, therefore cutting their profits by half on the console it would sell the most.
If you funded digital then you're receiving it today, what's the big deal? If you funded physical you'll wait for your physical reward, because 1) you mostly did it for the special reward 2) if not, you would have bought it from retail and not funded the kickstarter ... 3) If you REALLY funded this project, you want Platinum to surely succeed. I'm pretty sure nobody would fund a company they don't believe in.
I'm 100% sure all these haters who didn't understand the Kickstarter are people who didn't even funded it in the first place.
£40 in the UK vs $40 in the US? That's creative pricing.
Barely played my WiiU version, so could have been tempted to double dip. I mean, I LOVE Platinum (and Clover studios before that); Vanquish, Bayonetta and Nier Automata are three of my all time favourite games (I really enjoyed the Transformers game too fwiw). But not this time.
@status-204 that’s exactly what it is chaotic mess with poor controls have it on Wii u I certainly won’t be double dipping
In my top 5 Wii U games so I will probably no doubt double dip on it eventually when I find it for around the £25 mark
I was looking forward to buying this but it seems like a lazy port. No quality of life improvements and if anything it’ll be harder to play on the Switch than the Wii U. I’ll wait for a sale.
@rushiosan To be fair, the problem was not fixed quickly: not for everybody. Of their 33099 backers, hundreds, or even thousands, have been waiting days, over a week or are still waiting now. The Kickstarter comments page makes this apparent.
There were problems with the initial backer survey, total fails at the code distribution stage and potentially thousands still waiting even after it was proclaimed to be fixed. There was also an 11 day silence on Platinum’s part while this was happening.
Distribution has been a bit of a clusterf**k. It’s a solid game but people have the right to be seriously irked at this point.
@chtan69 luckily for me I never played it on the wii u, I think there was a demo for it and I played that 🤔
I'm happy about the release date for Europe, I was getting worried when amazon put the release date for end of December 😯 I will most certainly pick this up at a later date no doubt.
@arabiansanchez I’m still waiting to read someone’s testimonial on this. I’ve been browsing forums for two weeks now (discussing about the playthrough) and I haven’t seen anybody complaining about delayed codes. Their message on Kickstarter page was something to assure a solution if the problem persists, it doesn’t mean that happened to “hundreds or even thousands” of backers. Spam folder, e-mail with no storage available, incorrect e-mail, that’s more likely the reason for a delayed code, they fixed the distribution minutes after the code:none happened. Bring some evidences here and we can go ahead.
@mesome713 The game runs worse in some specific scenarios because the resolution was increased from 720p to 1080p, and the Switch can’t handle 1080p60fps that well on docked mode for reasons we’re very familiar with at this point. I have completed two playthroughs and it doesn’t even come close to how bad Breath of the Wild was at that regard - honestly, it’s barely noticeable. And BotW still got a 10/10 everywhere regardless of the awful performance.
People are prone to overlook such issues whenever it’s convenient.
@rushiosan I backed the Kickstarter and I’m one of the people who’s went through what I’ve outlined. There’s your testimonial. You’ll find hundreds more on the Kickstarter page.
@rushiosan As for junk folders, incorrect emails, etc, don’t even start. I’m not a 9 year old with a head injury.
Yeah, I backed this on kickstarter for a physical Switch version, and I still haven't gotten it. I did use the Steam code they sent, but that version has terrible controls, so I uninstalled it. Hopefully I get my version in the mail soon. This will be the first and last Kickstarter venture for me. Smh.
Poor quality! They took millions in kick starter money then used Kickstarter many for other projects. Boo!
@rushiosan on that game people did not pay well over $1000000 to have a remastered done on switch. They botched it they probably used the money for other projects and they did not take the time or care to make the switch port work properly, it's very poor form on the part of platinum.
@TimboSlice I'm still upset at platinum for gimping the sound on Astral Chain! It's sounds aweful in 2 channel. They really disappointed me. It really needs 5.1 like many many other games!
@arabiansanchez Sorry, you sounded like one. My bad.
@arabiansanchez You mean the user Hendra Wardi spamming the same “I didn’t get my code” in the past 12 hours or so? Yeah, there are hundreds of comments in the kickstarter page made by him. If you both are telling the truth, we have two people with that problem now! Unacceptable!
@Danrenfroe2016 do you understand publishing and distribution costs? Because you’re only thinking about development costs, which the Kickstarter wasn’t for.
@rushiosan No, I’d say disregarding him. He’s been a complete disgrace and deserves nothing 😂 . Try harder and please stop commentating from a place of ignorance. Your walkthrough forums aren’t exactly a source for this situation.
@meseome713 you’re a hypocrite, a troll and a complete buffoon with your daily lunacy. Get lost.
@fafonio you may be right, but it's just a shame. I'm a wee bit worried about Bayonetta 3.
O.K. I understand
@Danrenfroe2016 nah, dont worry, that's still being handled by Nintendo.
