Update: Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection on Switch will be a digital code in box for all content, including the main game.
Last week, Warner Bros. lifted the lid on the new 'Aftermath' story expansion for Mortal Kombat 11. This paid downloadable content will be available digitally on all platforms on 26th May.
If you're interested in a physical copy of the Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection and happen to live in the Americas, it'll be available this June for $59.99. According to a listing on Amazon, it's arriving on 16th June, and pre-orders are now live. An official fact sheet for Aftermath further notes how the physical Kollection will "only" be available in this region.
Fortunately, it doesn't sound like much of a loss for Switch owners outside of this location - in a post over on the NSCollectors subreddit (thanks, NintendoSoup), a user said they messaged the Warner Bros. support Twitter account and were told the Switch physical Kollection would include the original game card along with a voucher for the DLC and other content.

It better. I may have a 1TB SD, but I'd like to keep some space open for other games if at all possible.
Meh. Still sucks for those of us who purchased the initial release and Kombat Pack at launch--100 dollars and now they want another 40 dollars for a new story (that you'll only play once) and only three new characters. For Kombat Pack it was understandable since you got 6 new characters for 40 (about 6-7 bucks per character), but here it's kinda overpriced imo because like I said you'll only play the new story once and you only get three new characters.
Wish they would've taken the Smash approach and let you buy individual characters. I've seen a ton of people who only want Sheeva, Fujin, or Robocop by themselves and yet they have to spend 40 bucks for it. It sucks and I wish they would've considered lowering the price if you already bought the Kombat Pack at launch. So I don't think I'll be buying this.
There goes another opportunity for me to buy this game. Down the toilet.
All on the cart or gtfo.
So basically it's just the same physical copy of MK11 but with a bunch of vouchers inside? Them garbage better works. What a worthless excuse of a collection.
Lame that it's only available in America. Yes it does suck that the extra content is via a download code but since it's WB Games, I'm not surprised.
So... it's basically a repackaged version of the last physical release, but now with more to download! At this point, they may as well have supplied the base game as a voucher as well. They could have at least issued an updatec cartridge that includes a flag for the DLC content (so that the DLC is tied to the cartridge instead of one's NNID, like the DLC for Tetris 99).
Publishers have quickly forgotten what a physical release should be, haven't they? That goes for Nintendo as well.
And so I shall pass a second time.
I bought the original version on switch and though it does play pretty much the same as on other systems i can't get over how awful it looks in comparison. The krypt is just a disaster visually and the characters faces during the intros before a fight are blurry and really weird looking. Like for example what is going on with Kano's beard? You guys know what I'm talking about?
I'll probably still get this on PS4 eventually cause on switch the whole thing reeks of lazy. I know the switch is capable of better visuals than that. I mean come on if the witcher looks as good as it does there's no excuse!
@JR150 You can totally buy all of those characters for $6 each individually if you wanted! They’re even already listed in the eShop.
@keihtg
Ah, just checked. Didn't know that. XD
So this physical version will still be the same cartridge as the original?
I mean you can still play only 5% of the game and then you have to download?
Still can’t get over the fact that we finally have Robocop AND the Terminator in the same game.
Definitely grabbing this set when it’s available.
@Zeldafan79 then you never played mortal Kombat on psvita when it was released.
I'm fed up with that. Story mode is garbage in the last three games :
There you go, "story mode". Put some black bars to make it cinematic (easy) even if almost all the shots during the whole story mode are just to film the dialogues, which is the total opposit of the definition of "cinematic".
I love MK11 but paying 40$ for only three kombatants and some hours of this garbage "Story Mode" is too much. I'll wait for a sale this time. 15$/€ seems the fair price for 3 characters.
@keihtg Oh I didn't knew that. That solves the problem. Thanks.
(but I won't get the pre-order kostumes... well, I'll get over it)
Don’t know whether this is just me, but I’m really surprised Injustice 2 with all the DLC isn’t on the Switch yet. Think it might appeal to a wider audience due to less violence and think lessons could be learnt from the release of MK and improvements could be made to make it a much nicer experience.
@smashboy2000
It's a fighting game. How many of those have stories that are well plotted pieces of non claptrap that never makes you want to wretch?
@Zeldafan79 A lot. Mortal Kombat 1, Mortal Kombat 2, Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter Zero 1/2/3, Street Fighter 4, ...
A simple one-screen-text at the beginning and the end of an arcade mode for each character gave enough background and story to be enjoyable.
MK9/10/11 are just as good written as a bad Z movie or even a porn movie : I skip those horrible dialogues and get to the point.
To be fair, Street Fighter 5´s story mode is even more atrocious.
And you still have to shell out for Kombat pack 2. Yeah I think I'll just pass on this now completely.
I feel bad for the people that already own the game, $40 seems a bit steep. I am happy I waited and am now picking everything up for $60 when the OG price would be $140.
@JR150 Mortal Kombat and Injustice are known for doing this. I know a lot of people that held off purchase until this collection would come out.
I preordered the dlc same day it was announced
Wow what a shame, they should have at least put the full original game content all on the cartridge this time.
I wouldn't have been to bothered with the DLC being download codes. I'll pass on the Switch version and pick up a PS4 copy at a deep discount of $30 or less.
Makes sense they would figure out a way to screw up a physical edition again.
The original physical release of MK11 on Switch required a massive download, so I would expect the same here. It really sucks Aftermath isn't included for folks that paid $99 for the MK11 Gold Edition, but its no different than Super Smash Bros Ultimate or Dragon Ball Fighter Z charging for multiple fighter pack DLCs.
I'm still holding out hope that a more "Komplete Kollection" will be released with as others have said the FULL game on the cartridge at least. I'll be fine with some light downloading but how it is now where the vast majority of the game must be downloaded defeats the purpose. Oh do I miss the days of Mortal Kombat Trilogy. That game alone was such a dream come true for me and played it endless hours. Years later Armageddon was close to reliving those days. So much content all included in a one shot price. I totally dug the adventure mode in that game.
Still really waiting on the rumors of the remasters of the MK 1, 2, 3, and Ultimate (not sure if that's a part of it) have any truth to them. That's what I really want if they can do it right! Screw it just remaster MK Trilogy and my MK void will be forever filled
A bunch of sticklers on this website, eh?
@JR150 If you care only about the combat mode, online or with friends locally, buying early should have given you over a year of fun. That’s what you tend to pay for when you buy early at full price, and slowly get DLC.
Compilations like this are usually done in an attempt to revitalize the online community precisely for the benefit of those that are already playing the game.
If all you care for is story modes, though, it’s best to just wait a year later and buy the games then, as they will likely always be cheaper and include all DLC (except Nintendo first party games that almost never do down in price, nor seem to ever bundle DLC.)
I bought MK11 digital at a deep discount and have had a lot of fun with it. I don't really have an issue shelling out a little more considering.
So wait.
Buy MK11 for $60 bucks. Then buy 6 characters for $30, then buy Aftermath for $40 OR Buy all the things a year after release for $60.
Someone help me out here.
@Alpha-2002
How much did that set you back?
You can buy the base game at best buy for $20....
@HatosBlack
Kombat Pack 1 was 40 XD
@JR150 this sucks even more.
No way this is the last DLC. Wasn’t there a datamine not too long ago with eight, or so more character slots left, not including Kombat Pack’s 1 & 2 characters?
This makes me think there will be one, or two more $40 Kombat Pack’s down the line, and I don’t feel like buying the Aftermath Kollection, just to have to turn around and spend an additional $40 or $80 on top of that.
I want Mortal Kombat 11, but only when there’s a final, complete version for $60.
and this is why you never purchase mk games at launch!
WB can we have Mortal Kombat: Komplete Kollection, Mortal Kombat XL, and Injustice 2: Legendary Edition ports for the Nintendo Switch please.
@90sRetroGaming
Guess you'll be waiting 3-5 more years...🙄
@JR150 Yeah the price for this aftermath is crazy. No way I will spend that much on it, specially after already buying the main game plus kombat pack on steam and switch.
I'll just wait to buy it on PS4 in August when the price has dropped to $20.
That's a solid pass from me then. I usually import America only physical editions but if most of this is reduced to a download code, pretty sure I can't use it on the European eshop? Way to screw people over Warner.
Eh, looks like i'll stick to Samurai Shodown as my violent Switch fighting game.
The graphics hold up a lot better on the Switch, i don't really like the dull realistic look of MK 11 to begin with, while Sam Sho 2019 has a truely beautiful art direction.
According to wb’s response to questions on the listing page of the US Amazon.com, all the data will be on the disc/ game card except for some dlc skins that will be released at a later time, and these are the vouchers they are referring to.
@fadedcolors The same can be said for the Street Fighter series. lol
