If you're wanting to get a proper look at what you can get up to with the new Super Mario LEGO set, this new video from LEGO itself should do the trick.
The project's lead designer Jonathan Bennink talks us through how the Starter Course brings Mario to life and also shows off two expansion sets that will soon be on the way. In a press release accompanying the video, Bennink has shared the following:
"We were thrilled to see the global reaction to news of LEGO Super Mario. Fans have been keen to learn more, so I am pleased that today we were able to reveal more details about this exciting new collaboration that has led to a reimagination of the LEGO building experience and an entirely new way to play inspired by the beloved video game icon, Super Mario. We can’t wait to see fans get creative and challenge each other with this highly engaging and social play experience."
Pre-orders have already started to go live, so you can go ahead and grab a Starter Course as we speak. The expansion sets aren't available just yet, but we'll make sure to update you as soon as any pre-orders appear.

It looks really neat! Though I don't think it would hold my kids attention for very long at all I do hope it does well for them.
If I had a kid, I'd definitely get it for them. But as it's not a display piece, I really wouldn't get any value from it.
The tech is cool though.
They could implement it into display pieces in other ways. Spitballin' an idea, if they made a Disney's Donald Duck boat, he can fish off the side and the app could show what you catch.
Very clever!!! Though a regular set is to be expected by everybody.
Bowser's castle looks siiiick. My son is going to love it.
I'm not really convinced by now, especially to who this set is addressed. I love Lego and I love Nintendo, both since I was a child, but I can't really see the appeal. It looks, to me, too limited as a toy and not really a set for collectors. The castle looks cool, though
The starter course looks really...dumb? Like what you pretend you're playing Mario 1? When I was a kid I built ships and weapons (mostly with technic) and created my own stories.
I really dislike the look of Mario. They could have done a way better job than that. It looks off and ugly, at least for me.
There are some custom Lego Mario figure out there that are 100 better looking than that. And I don't really care about the screen features in the figurine itself.
We can pre-order the starter set in Canada on indigo.ca
I am really puzzled as to how this works. They developed it for years, so I am convinced there's a lot of thought and creativity behind it.
Looking forward to reviews! And congrats to Nintendo to once again trying new things.
They would have been smarter to make it a display piece as others have said.
I’ll admit I did buy this tipis set, but really I think I just want the Mario figure to display and the rest I’ll dump/give away.
I'm gonna be honest and say that the starter course is not recognizable. It looks like no effort was put in to make the mario world feature its unique landscape. The mario landscape is literally made out of bricks, how do you mess that up. Everthing else looks cool tho
Not enough Sonic!!!
@Zuljaras
The Mario figurine is the only thing I like. Yes it is block like but this is Lego so...?
@Zidentia Well, different views I guess Many people will enjoy this even if I don't. But I am sure that it will be very pricey.
I’m a 40 year old man who doesn’t collect LEGO. But I want Bowsers Castle. So yeah, difference of opinion here.
@Bondi_Surfer
Sonic Olympic sets next!!!
Without the interactive Mario piece, this would be the worst Lego kit ever.
