Animal Crossing: New Horizons has got off to a tremendous start on the Nintendo Switch with strong sales around the world, and over on Twitter, it's now become the most talked-about video game release of 2020. Keep in mind, it hasn't really had much competition so far and we're only into the fourth month of the year.
In saying this, it's managed to beat the popular free-to-play mobile title Fate/Grand Order and places well ahead of games like Fortnite and Minecraft. If you're wondering what Knives Out is on the below list, it's not that recent movie by the Star Wars director Rian Johnson, but rather a Chinese developed game 'inspired' by PUBG.
1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
2. Fate/Grand Order
3. Final Fantasy
4. Ensemble Stars!
5. Fortnite
6. Monster Strike
7. Granblue Fantasy
8. Identity V
9. Minecraft
10. Knives Out
A nice graphic has also been shared (via Forbes), to help illustrate the amount of discussion on Twitter since the second half of March. In the US exclusively, it's also become the most-tweeted-about game over the past 30 days - taking out the top spot and beating other popular franchises like Call of Duty and Final Fantasy.
Thank goodness Nintendo decided to give the Switch a share button, as right now - that seems to be how most players are sharing their own unique Animal Crossing experiences with each other. Knives Out is not "inspired" by PUBG. It's a shameless knock-off
Raymond (Cat with Yuna FF X eye colors) in Maid dress was a new Meme on internet. 🤭

@Anti-Matter It's a meme? Where's the funny? I don't see no funny? WHERE IS IT!?
Yeah and that conversation is mostly: “Where can I find a Switch” from lapsed Nintendo gamers or people that have rarely played video games-It’s crazy this feels the Wii/DS days all over again. The Switch hugely deserves it because it bridges the hard core/casual gamer divide well.

I'm glad that this game is getting the popularity that it deserves.
Such is the Power of Nintendo!
Most of that traffic is how much turnips are selling for 😂
This is the only time I have really gotten into Animal Crossing.
It's the perfect game for joking around with pop culture references. This morning I saw a bunch of Tiger King related stuff people had made.
@Bermanator
Memes don't HAVE to be funny. :3
God help it, Twitter is such a toxic platform, full of morons with nothing better to do, mainly celebrities showing off trying to convince you their lives are not dull, they however rarely succeed.
@johnvboy I've stopped using Twitter since January and, aside from art that I saw from some people and some memes that made me chuckle, I don't miss it much.
It has so much toxicity nowadays that I just can't. Last year between the Pokemon SWSH PR disaster and politics becoming even more toxic I just had to leave.
@jowe_gw,
The Pokemon issue is very far removed from this to be honest, although I must admit to liking the latest games, and can't wait for the DLC.
This new Animal crossing game is awesome and up to now I have put in around 145 hours and still feel I have not even done anything, it's the perfect diversion from the current worldwide pandemic, and there is a lot of care and attention that has gone into this game.
The issue on here and Twitter is the small amount of glass half empty brigade that will moan no matter how good a game is, just don't let them spoil your enjoyment.
@johnvboy My point about the "Pokemon issue" is that it went from one group criticeing the games because of Dexit and the other saying they simply didn't care about that to one group of people accusing the developers of lazy and the others painting every critism as invalid because it comes from "haters" while praising everything GameFreak does. With almost every informed and respectful opinion getting buried.
Social media in the recent years (Twitter specially to be honest) fully transformed into echochambers where people scream at each other about pointless things or spead manipulated stories to push an agenda. And, of course, is a place where toxicity and fake news based on what people WANT to see (instead of the truth) spread like wildfile.
I love the new Animal Crossing too. I have it and I've played it a lot. It's a shame that I'm missing all of these amazing posts on Twitter about it but I just don't want to go back.
@jowe_gw,
Don't blame you mate, Twitter is a cesspit.
