Although Switch owners won't be able to tuck into the new and exciting DOOM Eternal tomorrow, they can enjoy the rerelease of DOOM 64. A special stage has been made for this new rerelease and we can now see it in action for the first time.
We first heard about this new level earlier in the month, when senior developer James Haley revealed that a new chapter would be playable in the game that ties into the new 2016 DOOM and DOOM Eternal. Back then, he said that "persistent players will have the opportunity to unlock a new chapter in the Doomguy's saga, taking place shortly after [Doom 64's] original campaign concludes".
As it turns out, the tie-in content appears to revolve around the text shown upon completion of the level, which provides a little more lore relating to both the newer releases and DOOM 64 itself. Of course, the series' most dedicated fans will get the most out of this little nod.
Will you be grabbing DOOM 64 tomorrow? Will it be your first playthrough, or are you returning to it for nostalgia's sake? Tell us below.

I will be downloading tomorrow!🙌🏼
While everyone is playing Animal Crossing, I'll be playing Doom 64 with some Witcher 3 and Rocket League on top. I've never played it before and I can't get enough of Doom so I'll be sure to love it.
My copy of Doom Eternal for the Xbox came a day early! Quite a fitting game to play with the whole Covid 19 thing.
I'll definitely be downloading this tomorrow 😁
@ryancraddock It's still very confusing as to whether we're taking about just a new level or a new 'chapter' that keeps getting mentioned. Typically a chapter would mean more than one level. Can you clarify?
@brunojenso There are seven new levels in total.
Finally some doom 64 news 🥰
I will most DEFINITELY be downloading Doom 64.
@brunojenso If you look at the previous article that they link to in this one, then you'll see that senior developer James Haley literally states that a new "chapter" is added, which would indeed seem to indicate several levels.
Definitely looking forward to adding this to my Doom collection on Switch. Probably not good enough at the game to get through to this added level, but the fact that it's there is very cool.
@8ThanosReXXX @6QuasarEE Excellent and thanks - I found it quite confusing the way it was written. How kind of the dev's to add so much!
I had the original on N64 way back and I remember really enjoying it but I didn't really get how special it was back then. Will buy as soon as it's available.
It makes you wonder what strange resurrections we might get on the Switch next! How about Alien vs Predator from the Atari Jaguar? That would be a curveball!
This is a steal for $5, definitely downloading this.
So nice to see doom 64 getting some attention!😃
@JayJ yes bargain considering Nintendo always charged £8.99 for 64 games.
Looking forward to this. 🙂
@mesome713
You can't be serious, I hope? This isn't indie.
oh I have this for N64, I should try it sometime
Even though this is a pre order bonus on switch I cba to wait. So will be buying this at a great price of £3.99 and most likely will give my pre order version away on twitter or something.
@brunojenso You're welcome.
@EVIL-C sorry, looked cheap to me.
@mesome713 Not an indie or "cheap". Lol
It's a remaster of a game from 1997.
@mesome713 yeah Doom, that little indie game nobody's heard of
Looking forward to playing this on Switch soon.
Even though it wasn't primarily developed by id Software, Doom 64 was essentially Doom 3 (before the actual Doom 3) and it was exclusive to Nintendo 64.
That was huge.
Even then, Doom was absolute gaming royalty.
Grabbing this tomorrow, and it will be my first play through.
@EVIL-C @Impaler-D @carlos82 they usually come out of left field with opposing opinions just to stir things up. I'd ignore them.
@mesome713 DOOM is a long running series from 1993. Google Doom 2016; its definitely not indie. 😉👍
@EVIL-C I see now, just didn't know, it looks low budget.
For £4 this is a bargain, day 1 no brainer.
@NintendoByNature Haha, yeah. Even after there's already been numerous articles about this, explaining ad nauseam for even the youngest gamer on here what Doom is and how long it has already existed, and still these individuals come crawling out of the woodwork with brilliant comments like "huh, it looks cheap/ugly/low budget/indie".
Yeah, no sh**, Sherlock, it's an N64 game. At least pretend like you've read the article before making such an infinitely short-sighted comment...
@mesome713 Well, any game from the N64 era would look low budget by 2020 standards.
Will I be buying this tomorrow? You bet your ****ing ass.
Enjoying doom eternal on Xbox! Might pick up aso the switch version when released
@EVIL-C it’s like “first day on the internet” level trolling/bait....takes me back to the 90s.
@ThanosReXXX yea exactly. I stopped engaging with them a couple weeks back after saying platinum games is a "sad company." More often than not, it's an outlandish statement to engage in an argument so i stopped replying to said person. It literally has the numbers 64 in it. Indie game? Probably not chief. N64 game? Not to steal your line. But no $&!+ sherlock!!!
Wait does that mean DOOM 2016 is no longer a series reboot and actually connects to the classic series?
Or that the Marine in DOOM 64 is the same one who'd become one of the race of Slayers years later?
I’m honestly way more excited for this than Doom Eternal.
I missed out on Doom 64 back in the day due to mediocre, lukewarm magazine reviews, and because it didn’t come close to games like Turok on a technical scale.
But I absolutely love Quake 64–a classic port IMO, so I think I’ll enjoy this too.
And for what, 3 or 4 quid? Total bargain.
I love Doom. Ever since getting it for the SNES at Xmas in 1995. I played it to death. The dodgy frame rate and tiny viewing window was never a problem for me. I played it for weeks until I could find 100% of the secrets on every level and complete all 3 chapters on Nightmare difficulty. No idea how I managed it.
I'll have to get used to not being able to jump or look up or down again, but I'm excited for this release. I love that double-chainsaw.
So I just received my collectors edition on PC and downloaded DOOM 64.....and wow the game looks unreal in 4K on an Ultrawide monitor. The fact that a Nintendo 64 game got Ultrawide support is incredible. Fantastic work by the dev team. Will pick up the SWITCH version also.
Currently playing through DOOM 2016 on nightmare mode 😬 (it's no joke!) preordered DOOM Eternal on Switch and cant wait to get more DOOM. It really is a staple of any gamers library,or should be!
ID Software, along with CDPR, are showing what fantastic third party devs are all about. I can't wait to jump into DOOM Eternal
@mesome713 Next time check the description of a game or google it, before incorrectly coming to the conclusion it must a indie title.
@doom64_abit Sorry, just looked like a cheap indie game
Does anyone know how I can put a troll on my ignore list? I don't want to hear this guy keep repeating that Doom 64 looks like a "cheap indie game" a million times.
@mesome713 Except it doesn't look like a low budget indie game. It looks like what it is, a triple A N64 game from the late 90s. Do you think all N64 games look cheap or just this one specifically?
Just curious, how old are you?
@vio mesome claims to have children but due to his incessant posting and nonsensical observations I’m guessing he’s in his early teens.
@TheWingedAvenger press the ignore button under the person’s name. It’ll block them from your view feed. Also report his comments en masse and maybe the mods will finally ban the stupid dope...
@NihilistNirvana
Thanx a lot!
