A new "action game epic to follow Splatoon and Fortnite" is planned for release on Nintendo Switch in 2020.
The news comes from the latest issue of the monthly CoroCoro comic in Japan (thanks, Ryokutya2089 / Gematsu), which reportedly teases the game alongside a key visual which stars a boy protagonist and a mysterious monster in a New York-like city. This image hasn't yet been shared online, but we'll make sure to keep an eye out for it and update this article if it appears.
It's not yet clear which studios are behind the title, but it is reportedly set in "a new world that utilises Switch’s performance to its very limit,” where “battles break out between skyscrapers in the middle of a peaceful city."
We don't know about you, but that sounds pretty exciting to us. One last detail known at present is that a manga adaptation of the game is already in the works.
As promised above, we'll update this story when we learn more. Until then, feel free to share your thoughts on what this might be in the comments below.

You sure it's not just that Ninjala thing? Sounds kinda similar.
@Dezzy that's what I was thinking, based on the description, it totally fits
@Dezzy @Tyranatronus It does sound similar, but it'd be odd for CoroCoro to talk about it without sharing any other details - we already know the developer/publisher behind Ninjala, for example... 🤔
NEWS FLASH
Nintendo Switch is getting a new game in 2020. We'll have more information as it comes in.
That's the world we live in now.
Man, it seems thing are leaking left and right recently. Guess Nintendo has waited a little too long to air a Direct.
Then again, if coronavirus is causing the delay, it's out of their control.
Intriguing.
Fingers crossed it's not entirely multiplayer but contains some sort of campaign.
Hadn't looked at Ninjala before but yeah this sounds like it.
The original JP page has an additional quote of 'Manga adaptation already set!' — since it's CoroCoro announcing that, it should be a CoroCoro manga.
Seems Ninjala is by Gungho, and Gungho is already running a manga in CoroCoro (Puzzled Dragons), too.
Splatoon 2 and Fortnite, get outta my way !

Ninjala will be my rules !
"a new world that utilises Switch’s performance to its very limit,”
If you listen to some people around here you'd think the Switch would melt running a text based adventure.
Pretty broad strokes here but I'm down for whatever it might be!
Fortnite was fun while it lasted. Seeing as how I never spent any money, I absolutely got my money's worth out if it. I kept getting sucked back in for those big finale events, but I'm out for good now and there's nothing bringing be back in at this point.
Splatoon on the other hand, I still pop in from time to time and have a blast. I will say the lack of updates has made me less interested in going all in, but I still have the Octo Expansion to 100% if I get the itch.
The point is, I think I'm at a time in my life where I'm ready to take on another major online action game. It's either that, or I start another Three Houses run.
Not interested.
The source of this is CoroCoro, which did a big fuss about a free dlc of a costume to Splatoon like something gigantic was be announced. Just saying.
Wow. Sounds interesting. I shall remain hopeful while my imagination runs rampant.
How are Splatoon and Fortnite related, and what does 'following' those games even mean.
Do they just mean an online game?
@rjejr we all want a direct and will take any news we can get
If this isn't a game with literal battles between skyscrapers, I'm going to be disappointed.
Every time I see pictures/videos on Ninjala I get vibes of Arms & Splatoon blended into one. @Anti-Matter
The protagonist will be Iwata
