Following on from the release of Super Mega Baseball 2 last July, Metalhead Software has now announced the third entry in the series – Super Mega Baseball 3 – for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam. It will include cross-play support, be priced at for $44.99 USD (or the regional equivalent), and will arrive at some point in April.
This new entry will have the "deepest on-field simulation" yet, comprehensive online and offline modes – including a new franchise mode, along with vastly refined graphics. There's also a revamped UI, new audio, new team/character content, and stadiums with variable lighting conditions. All of it is backed by the same easy-to-learn gameplay.
Here's what the Metalhead co-founder had to say about the new game:
This is the most well-rounded experience we've put together yet with a lot of content and a good variety of modes that cover single player and online gameplay. We've kept it simple-one purchase gets you the whole package and there are no in-game purchases.
Below is the official announcement trailer and a list of major features:
- Challenge your hand-eye coordination or relax and hit dingers with fluid gameplay that scales seamlessly from novice to beyond-expert levels of difficulty.
- Apply and refine your baseball instincts with a sophisticated baseball simulation featuring new pick-off and base stealing mechanics, wild pitches/passed balls, designated hitters, and situational player traits.
- Take in the sights and sounds of 14 richly detailed ballparks, each featuring unique day, night and alternate lighting conditions.
- Guide an evolving team to greatness over multiple seasons in the all new Franchise mode featuring player development, aging, retirement and signing/releasing of free agents.
- Compete online to win pennants and climb to higher divisions in the cross-platform Pennant Race mode.
- Create your ideal league with a comprehensive customization suite that includes season length/structure, team names/uniforms/logos, and player names/appearance/attributes.
- Play or simulate any combination of games/teams in customized Seasons and Elimination brackets, solo or with friends.

With retail price more than $40, the game should be release in physical as well.
Don't really feel like playing since MLB is canceled. Wish we had a Mario baseball game, Coronavirus can't stop Mario.
Is the title a joke? I'm not even trying to be mean or sarcastic, I am serious, is it? Because if it's not... just wow.
@mesome713 There were games like that on Gamecube and Wii, so a return of them is entirely possible at some point. How well did Mario Tennis do on Switch? If it sold well, more Mario sports titles are more likely.
Super Mega Baseball 2 is so god damn good. I play it all the time. Incredibly satisfying with limitless customizable options. Thing is, is there a compelling reason for me to drop cash on this sequel? Is it going to be that much better? I’m doubtful.
Zzzzzzzzzzzz
Super Mega Baseball 2 is awesome, can’t wait to play this one
Franchise mode?
I'm really interested to see reviews of that!
This series plays crazy well, in excited for the franchise depth.
@Toshiro_Baloney Stay tuned, I'm checking it out for my review super soon.
Looks really nice - can’t wait
I feel like I would like these games, but the lack of MLB and MLBPA licensing really dings it for me. I'll keep an eye out and see what kind of sales pop up.
Really happy this series is continuing...bought the first and second on the ps4, before the second game to the switch, while it seems to fit the switch so while
Still, from a mid prize game to a full prize game all of a sudden... i wonder what’s improved...the leap from 1 to 2 was rather small..
And for those missing licensing..This game focusses on the pure joy of basbsll, the essence, the feeling, and not so much the official stuff... and manages, for me at least, to get a lot closer to what makes baseball fun than the official sony games do... try the demo of smb2 to get convinced..
This is a great sports game, never mind baseball game.
@Toshiro_Baloney @romanista I think it all comes down to the Franchise mode for me. The players already have so much character, building a team from scratch over multiple seasons could be awesome.
This is the problem with producing a good sports game - where do you go next?
Def great news!
Arg... when are these devs going to make us a Super Mega Ice Hockey? I love their treatment of sports games!
Anyhow, SMB1 and 2 are both great games and I'm not even much into baseball, so I'll deffo be picking this one up in due course.
Looks like they are building and improving on past success, very cool. I'd like to see twice the amount of ballparks, but Im hoping there are 30+ original teams or so. With no real sports available at the moment, this is the best alternative.
Super Mega Baseball 2 is a fricking awesome arcade sports game. I love it and am not even that big of baseball or sports video games fan I feel the game has gotten too little hype on Switch. The clip of the 3rd entry looks great. Definitely improved graphics detail while maintaining the cartoony look. The animations in the current game are great, but it look like they added a bunch more in the new version. The pitch hit mechanics in the game are top notch so they won't change much there if they are smart. If this game had a MLB or Mario license it would probably get the attention it deserves, but the quality is good enough if it had Mario and crew as playable characters you would think Nintendo made it themselves. The current game has been on sale for under $20 a few times recently...well worth grabbing....I hope the new version gets a cartridge release as I would love to have this game to keep in my physical library.
I hope this has wireless local play
Nice! Loved the demo of the last one. Only thing that kept me from buying it was lack of franchise mode. Will get this for sure.
Part 1 and 2 are the best baseball games in decades, and perfect on Switch since you can save a game midway. Will def pick up 3.
@Toshiro_Baloney Franchise mode, vastly refined graphics, a revamped user interface, new audio, new team/character content, stadiums with variable lighting conditions, and new pickoff and base stealing mechanics. Plus a completely revamped online mode. I'm all in for franchise alone.
Got it nlw catarting the franchise
