If you're looking to lose all of your closest friends and ruin everyone's day, you've certainly come to the right place.
For the most part, the Animal Crossing fan community seems to be a lovely, charming place full of welcoming players who enjoy everything about Nintendo's chilled out series. That doesn't mean that there aren't one or two jokers, though, and this New Horizons prank has given us quite a chuckle (and concern for its creator's poor girlfriend).
You see, a Reddit user going by the name 'buttfartsauce' (does it get any more perfect?) has created a custom design resembling the starfish-shaped pattern often found on the ground. As players of the game will know, these patterns signify that a fossil is buried in that very spot and you'll almost certainly want to dig it up to see what you've found.
In a post shared online, they say, "I did a little prank. I'm going to put these all over my girlfriend's island," presumably leaving her to constantly think she's found a fossil, go to dig it up, and get horribly confused.
It gets better, because buttfartsauce has also provided a QR code of a slightly improved version of the design for you to download at home. If you've got a friend or family member who plays the game with you, this could create some hilarious memories - April Fools' Day is just around the corner, too!
Between this and players imprisoning poor Tommy to try and escape mortgage repayments, we're starting to think there's a darker side to the Animal Crossing fanbase. Has that big bad Doomslayer had a bad influence on you?

My prank suggestion:
Name your island with My Butt. 🤣🤣🤣
Classic good ol prank. I like it.
These are the best types of pranks. Good for a quick laugh or two but at the end of the day completely harmless.
Never thought about doing that. Sounds like a great idea
I never expected such juvenile mischief from someone named buttfartsauce, apparently you can't trust anyone these days.
Yes! I may be doing this.
Can someone explain how to use the QR code to import the design? Thanks!
@FantasiaWHT If you have your Nintendo switch online app connected to your switch account, you can use your phone camera to scan in designs. You can even scan in designs from new leaf or happy home designer provided the QR codes have not expired
@Anti-Matter not funny didnt laugh
Love this so much! Got this, scattered 10 around my island!
even better, put a pitfall in it
I surrounded my least favorite villagers house with all my bass
I sent the Raid Shadow Legends copypasta to my least favourite villager, with the link to play being a rickroll.
This is actually pretty funny.
