What's that? There's a new Animal Crossing game coming to Switch in March, you say? Jeepers creepers, how did I miss that news, macmoo?!
Yes, as we're sure practically anybody who's ever played a Nintendo console knows by now, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is coming to Switch soon. In the run up to release we've seen a host of official Animal Crossing bundles and merch already - everything from cushions to consoles - and even us devout, dedicated, deranged fans have almost had our lust for cute things satiated with all the quality merch available.
The key word there, though, is almost. Not wanting to be outdone by all that official Animal Crossing paraphernalia, there's a wealth of additional fan-made Animal Crossing stuff available on Etsy. What it lacks in that Nookian seal of approval it arguably makes up for with bespoke, handcrafted love and attention, so we've rounded up some of the cutest examples below for your delight and delectation.
What would Mr Nook have to say about these, we wonder?

I'll take the KK Dad hat, lol
Crazy Redd approved... I saw what you did there.
I guess the Etsy folk have got Nintendo's ok to copy this stuff. Otherwise NL would not be promoting it. 🙃
That Resetti patch should be slapped on oil platforms across the globe.
Meme-able wisdom.
@zool That was my question, the stuff looks cool, but is it legal?
@dugan Would Tom Nook worry about the law?
Hell naw.
Isn’t etsy that website where people start vintage stores and ask like €1k for a NES, SNES or ps1 that is so yellowed it looks like people pissed on it since the day the console came out?
@HappyMaskedGuy Very true, that Tom Nook! Actually, I can't say anything bad about him, I think I still owe him bells . . .
As someone said above, this kind of visibility could catch Nintendo's attention. Im guessing the parties involved are aware. The girl that sold me die-cut Splatoon stickers on Etsy wasn't up very long after I bought some. They were really nice stickers. On the outside chance she reads here, thanks arkham in the eastern US
That said, I still like this article/post
@Woomy_NNYes I was about to comment on that. I would think Nintendo would be against stuff like this, since they are profiting off Nintendo without permission (I'm assuming).
If that's the case, then would the fact that NL gets money from sales they make (due to affiliate links) also mean they are profiting without Nintendo's permission?
@darkswabber For 1k, it had better be yellowed by real urine, or someone is getting ripped off.
@Kalmaro After thinking about it, I think NL has this figured out. I've never seen them break their own rules. They can't run the site without know what can or cannot post. So, I don't know why it's ok, but I'm going to trust NL.
@HobbitGamer you rascal!
I'm planning on getting someone to do an AC style portrait of myself to use as a new profile pic on social medias.
I'll take a fan designed switch lite if Nintendo won't make one.
@Woomy_NNYes Well even if it wasn't authorized, I doubt anything would happen so I'm not too concerned.
Considering that Nintendo routinely provides review copies to this very site, I find it very strange that NL would brazenly profit from bootleg merchandise, unless, somehow, the above merchandise involves paying royalties to Nintendo.
There is a lot of awesome custom-made merchandise out there (I even bought some at a comic convention over a year ago, totally unaware that they were custom-made until I did a bit of digging), but I'm uneasy about supporting the practice.
@Silly_G That's what I'm kinda thinking myself. NL knows all too well about Nintendo Lawer Ninjas so I would think they wouldn't support or try to make a profit of anyone making an unauthorized profit of Nintendo's IP.
I can't tell what's going on in this case because they don't mention if any of these sales are approved.
I really want to know if those things are allowed by Nintendo or not.
I want to start using Etsy but I am little afraid that if I put some things like Zelda figure or something like that it would put me in trouble.
Thank you, NL. My life is now incomplete without that Mr Resetti patch.
I'm not even a AC fan
@dugan my guess is that it's not, it's copyright. The same as pirate dvds.
Chill out who cares dont ask.
@Kalmaro @Silly_G I said the same thing when Nintendo Life was constantly pushing Etsy merch during the Christmas season. These sellers do not have the licensing to sell Nintendo's intellectual property, and it is unethical for Nintendo Life to promote IP thieves all the while profiting via the affiliate links. @Damo , why is Nintendo Life supporting IP thieves and profiting from it? Don't you see an issue with it?
@NPC411 I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this. All I'd like is confirmation that these sellers are legit.
There are some excellent goods here, and I am tempted, but I too am concerned about the ethics or legality of this.
