Did you know musicians also play the Nintendo Switch? Shocking, right? In a recent interview with Variety, the American-born singer, songwriter, record producer and now actor Anne Erin Clark – better known as St. Vincent – revealed she had spent hundreds of hours playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the hybrid platform.
Speaking about her new film The Nowhere Inn, which she co-wrote and starred in, Clark explained how in one scene she required a games console. One of the producers on set had a Switch with a copy of Breath of the Wild in it, and so she ended up using that.
Since then, she's been "obsessed" with this particular game and has "probably" put about 300 hours into it. Director Bill Benz even mentions how filming was often held up when she was playing Breath of the Wild, and it turns out she was also a fan of The Legend of Zelda series growing up:
That was my favourite game growing up, but I hadn't really gamed since then
St. Vincent isn't the first musician to admit she loves playing games. It reminds us of that time in 2018 when the one and only Lady Gaga revealed on Twitter how she was a "secret gamer girl" after beating Chapter IV of Bayonetta.
How do your hours in Breath of the Wild compare to Clark's playtime? Tell us the comments below.

St Vincent’s pretty cool and fairly weird so it doesn’t surprise me that she’s spent over 300 hours on it.
"Did you know musicians also play the Nintendo Switch? Shocking, right?"
Gotta love self-aware articles.
Wow, famous people play video games too, just like us?! Who would’ve thought?!
St. Vincent is cool though.
300 hours. That's cute.
@JackDeschain it’s so cute, it hurts me and my 650 hours.
Bitterness aside with that hours of mine, I just recently stumbled upon ingame Golf and Bowling.
Good taste
Now do 300 more
She has amazing taste, greatest game of all time, you can't go wrong.
I’ve put in over 550 Hours or so and 100%ed the original quest (yes, even the Koroks, made much easier by their mask), 100%ed the DLC and have about 10% of the Master Quest finished.
I think I've listened to her while playing BOTW before. Nice
That’s awesome.
Rookie numbers.
Breath of the Wild 2 will eat up another 300 hours.
Slow news day again huh?
@IANVARIVS LOVED LOVED LOVED the game but can't see how people spent this many hours on it. Becomes quite repetitive after the 100 hour mark.
@westman98 hope so. It's beginning to stink of the developed for this generation but held for the next like a few Zelda's before it, though. We've been teased before.
If I needed any more reasons to love Annie, here's another one 😍
funny how she got hooked on a game that was supposed to be a scene prop haha. really meaty numbers for someone who seems as busy as her
When people say that they are working adults and have spent 300 hours playing a game I usually call that as I lie.
Not for Breath of the Wild.
Director : "Annie, time to finish the scene. I'll turn that game off now."
Annie: "Don't turn off what turns me on."
Love her.
@Dunan extremely slow
No clue who this is and I seriously thought they were talking about a hospital. These "they are just like us" articles though, are pandering and mostly grandiose puff pieces in my opinion.
@tseliot
Switch 2 isnt going to launch until 2023 at the earliest. There's no way Nintendo is going to wait that long to release Breath of the Wild 2, especially since it will share the same game engine, character assets, and general map as the first game.
Expect a summer 2021 launch at the latest.
@Zidentia Never heard of her either, and yeah this article is pointless.
Never heard of her. And to me it's nothing special to hear that a "celebrity" likes to game too.
@Zidentia @Vriess She just has two Grammy awards, so yeah she's virtually unknown lol
@RazumikhinPG
Yeah actually she is. Winning a Grammy these days is totally irrelevant. No one cares anymore for popularity contests. And to be fair I did listen to her and she is just another whiny singer songwriter that scores fake high marks in this age of mediocrity.
While rockstar life appears to be all glamour, I expect there's a lot of TEDIOUS downtime during recording time and travel between cities. The Switch is perfectly designed for playability during these times. I expect she's not alone on this.
@Zidentia I expect you to listen exclusively to anything pre-1900 lol
@Zidentia lol, whiny singer songwriter. Yeah bud, certainly sounds like you gave her a listen.
@RazumikhinPG
Yo have no clue what I listen to and sorry my tastes do not involve your affinity for crappy lyrics and trite chords
@commentlife
Yeah you are right I listened again and she is more than a whiny singer songwriter. She is also a terrible singer and mediocre guitar player. This persona has been done many times before by people much more talented than her. As I said she probably seems more talented compared to a lot of the numbing stuff out there. There are some good artists out there but she is not one of them.
@Zidentia I don't need to know what crap you listen to. If you're not listening exclusively to late 1700s Mozart and early 1800s Beethoven I honestly despise your laughably mediocre musical taste.
@RazumikhinPG
Oouch! Super harsh comeback. Have a super awesome day.
Don’t know her work but I can see why successful musicians would love the Switch in particular. So much time just hanging about in hotels, airports, recording studios. It’s also a nice “leave me alone” defense too. 300 is pretty hardcore, so respect!
@Zidentia I hope you have a great day too, but please try not to forget your medication 'cause your psychopathy is showing <3
I would like to say some of the music I like is Mozart x
@Dragonslacker1
Mozart is a good artist. I agree. What is his Instagram page? Lol, just kidding.
@RazumikhinPG
Hmmm, I don't feel antisocial but I have been accused of having a big............................Ego.
Just recently started getting into his music and it is very relaxing and engaging. I sometimes try things out because they have endured for hundreds of years there has to be something to it. Everybody has heard of Mozart and Beethoven x x there is a 7 hour length channel on YouTube of Mozart jams which I try to dip in each day! So nice to hear something new x x x x x @zidentia
Human beings from Earth enjoying fun consumer products designed for human beings?! That’s quite a scoop! 🤦🏼♂️
Is this enough to stop my annoyance at her clear musical influence on the last Sleater-Kinney record causing it to feel tonally off? Not quite. But it is a start.
@Dragonslacker1
There is something to be said about the structure of these artists that allows the melodic constructive elements to feel as fresh now as they certainly must have been radically different then.
Yes it is relaxing and helps the mind to focus.
@zidentia music on the whole is interesting to me, I do like how classical music has a certain weightlessness to it and feels very free flowing, and at different times of the day different songs feel better. That’s the beauty of music and art in general there is so much of it from the present to the past that there is always something new to enjoy. And unlike video games there is no skill level and you can have on the background as well. I also like those YouTube videos like listening to a river or thunderclouds or rain they are cool x x
@Dragonslacker1
I like many types of music but classical is one I always come back to when I need something to stir my soul or as you stated, be in the background to create the mood. One of my personal favorites is Canon in D. A simple, well known example but strikes a chord. When I listen to classical recently I have been putting Claude Debussy into my playlist. His compositions can start off soft and dreamlike and then soar and back again. Songs like Clair De Lune or Suite Bergamasque can really be uplifting.
Funny that she got into it after being vine it as a video prop. I like St Vincent, done some really good stuff.
@zidentia thanks for the recommendations I didn’t know the names at all but have just listened to Canon in d, what a beautiful piece of music, it sounded very familiar to me. A band called Spiritualized who I used to love created a song based on it called ladies and gentleman we are floating in space, a beautiful and uplifting version. Thanks again for the tips will continue the classical journey x
So long as she never attempts to write and direct a horror movie ever again. Her contribution to the ‘feminist’ XX film was utterly dreadful.
Then in an interview about it, she said that she doesn’t even like horror films?
Ugh. Makes me so angry. Stick to the music hen.
There’s no need for her to doubt about how many hours she’s put on Zelda, just check you user page, Anne...
Remember that Grammy performance with Dua Lipa? Now picture them playing Zelda. Yowza.
Never heard of her and couldn't care less. "Great" article >.<
What's a St. VINCENT?
Silent Planet still play Mario Kart 64 with fans on a Nintendo 64. XD
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DnaOwwPUcAEOKto.jpg
That's... not interesting at all.
I've probably spent as much time listening to her music. I loved her collaboration with David Byrne.
@westman98 General map? Are you sure?
Not more than me XD
How could you not? Finding those 900 korok's was like finding a needle in haystack.
@BuckeyeNerd
I'm fairly confident Nintendo isn't going to rebuild Breath of the Wild 2's map from scratch. Its the same Hyrule after all.
@zemahon Or most of Bethesda’s games
(1,000+ hours each in both Skyrim and Fallout 4)
300 hours, huh?
Pfff, lightweight.(😛)
Nice to know other people have put 200+ hrs in BOTW, makes me feel less guilty about my 550 hours. That game is magical.
IIRC, the base game took me about 180 hours to finish every side-quest...and I took my sweet time! I bought the DLCs after that, they didn't add quite as many hours as I had hoped...I think I spent more time just trying to beat the stupid Master Sword trials >_<
Three hundred hours? Nice warmup!
@boxyguy given how mucj time on the road someone like her spends it makes sense
ok das cool but why she dressed as makoto persona 5
@westman98 Maybe it's not going to be set primarily in Hyrule. At the very end, the castle starts to fly, so what we see in the trailer could just be the prologue. We'll just have to wait and see.
