Today sees the launch of the latest Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion, Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield.
As you can probably guess, the new set of cards brings the world of Pokémon Sword and Shield to the TCG for the first time, with lots of familiar faces from your recent journey in Galar being present. The expansion also introduces a brand-new mechanic to the game called Pokémon VMAX: these cards evolve from Pokémon V and feature Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon, with players able to collect cards like Snorlax VMAX and Lapras VMAX - both in their Gigantamax forms.
Here's a little more info on the new card series:
- Over 50 Pokémon from the Galar region
- 17 Pokémon V and 12 full-art Pokémon V, including Zacian V and Zamazenta V
- Four Pokémon VMAX, including Snorlax VMAX and Lapras VMAX
- More than 30 Trainer cards, including three full-art Supporter cards
- A new Special Energy card
We also have a cool little detail to share with readers from the UK. While stocks last, you can obtain two promo cards by heading out to stores to pick up the new expansion. If you spend £10 or more on Pokémon TCG products in WHSmith, you'll receive Galarian Obstagoon; buy any Pokémon TCG product in GAME and you'll get Oversize Snorlax V. In Ireland, you'll get a Galarian Obstagoon promo card by spending 10€ on Pokémon TCG products in Eason stores.

I've moved on to Vanguard but if the V cards are cool I may come back.
Time for the power creep to get even more out of hand. Looking forward to Pikachu V EX+ Tag Team ++ LGBT NFL x Fire Emblem & Knuckles.
@nessisonett
Agreed. The tag team cards made me loose interest.
Tag teams was when i quit. I do understand power creep in these games, but there is simply too much with the ptcg. Also I don't understand why we still don't have a ptcg switch game......
Loved playing the gbc version originally and still now on 3ds VC. Would like to seems an updated switch version of the trading card game.
Only four V Max?
So are we finding any past series cards now being snobbishly retired as too old with this release?
Looks good to me, let's make that money Nintendo!
I'd love to get back into the game if they updated PTCGO to allow the purchase of packs in game like Hearthstone or Magic.
