Update: Looks like the second Platinum4 announcement has now been revealed - a brand new game from Hideki Kamiya known as Project GG.
PlatinumGames' brand new website has reconfirmed the company's next big reveal. It'll be taking place later this week on 26th February and lines up with the latest issue of Famitsu. Obviously, this is the second of four surprises.
The first one was revealed at the start of this month. In case you missed it, it's a Kickstarter project for The Wonderful 101: Remastered that's since become a huge success and has already smashed most of its stretch goals.
So, what will Platinum reveal next? It's hard to say! For a number of months now, Hideki Kamiya has been telling fans how the development of Bayonetta 3 is "progressing smoothly" so perhaps we'll finally get a release date for this anticipated Switch release.
What are you expecting PlatinumGames to reveal? Share your own thoughts in the comments below.

Bayo 3 info would work better as the third reveal tbh
Astral Chain 2 would be very nice
@mdgamer So by your logic, announce a second game in a series that had its first release last year rather than Bayonetta 3, a sequel to a 2014 game, which was announced nearly 3 years ago?
"Hey, do you think maybe a Dir-"
Is bound, gagged, and thrown off-stage
Bayonetta 4! To release before Bayonetta 3. Just to troll.
Second the Astral Chain 2 wishes.
It's not going to be a Nintendo release.
I bet it's a game about cleaning out the cat litter box. Oh it's soo fun doing that. Hehe.
Star Fox Zero port incoming!
A Bayo 2 port to PS4 and PC would be really funny. There’d be chaos here equivalent to a minor civil war.
@Heavyarms55 I... would not put it past Kamiya. 😂
@nessisonett haha I wouldn’t be surprised if they did that. Tho it’d be pretty sad for everybody if it was another port
Vanquish port I hope.
@chocolate_supra That's why I suggested it. I could totally see him doing that.
@N8tiveT3ch Actually, it IS a Nintendo release. Furthermore, Nintendo and SEGA share 50% of the Bayonetta IP.
@Leu10antFalcon They said that about whatever the second announement is, not Bayonetta.
On top of that Nintendo own's none of the Bayonetta IP. What they own is
1. Bayonetta 1's JP Voice tracks
2. Half the rights to Bayonetta 2
3. Half the rights to Bayonetta 3.
The IP itself is still fully Sega.
NieR Automata for Switch!
@Coach_A I don't think they're suggesting an either/or. I think they're just asking for astral chain 2, which I'm in full agreement with
@Coach_A I like Astral Chain more than Bayonetta so sounds good to me.
@NintendoByNature @BenAV
So because you want a game, they should further take resources and time away from another game that has been hotly anticipated for years?
@Coach_A I'm not suggesting that they should do anything but I'd be okay with that.
@link3710 Not quite. as its fairly murky on who owns what with those titles as Japanese business are less transparent as NA ones in rights ownerships. The more detailed answer is more like.
Sega owns:
Bayonetta IP and Publishing rights to Bayonetta 1.
Nintendo owns:
Publishing RIghts to Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3 and the rights to publish future Bayonetta games. If they choose not to publish future Bayonetta games those rights go back to Sega. Since Nintendo is fully funding those projects Nintendo gets to have them as exclusive games and a say on what platform they appear on in the future. We do not know if that is a timed deal or if Sega needs to compensate Nintendo financially to get those publishing rights to Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3. Since nothing was ever made public about this deal all of this based on developer and publisher tweets and interviews.
If Bayonetta is to appear in a Nintendo published title that is not Bayonetta 2 or 3, then they need Sega's approval. Nintendo only owns publishing rights to Bayonetta 2 and 3, if not outright own the rights to those games. It's very unclear right now what's going on there. But as far as comments from Sega and Platinum are stating sounds like Nintendo fully owns the rights to those titles. But they do own the Bayonetta 1 JP voice track as you said as it is only on the Wii U and Switch version of Bayonetta 1.
However, rights break down to the following Nintendo and Platinum games are as follows if anyone is curious.
Nintendo and Platinum co-own:
The Wonderful 101 IP and Astral Chains IP.
We do not know yet if Platnium got the full rights to The Wonderful 101 IP and as far as we know Nintendo only gave them the approval to self-publish the game on PS4, XBOne and PC. But, based on what I've read the Nintendo bullet will appear on the PS4's box so it sounds like Nintendo still co-owns the IP... for now
@Coach_A @BenAV P* has multiple teams. The Astral Chains team is not Bayonetta 3's team or the Automatta Team. So odds are good that based on sales Nintendo has probably already greenlight pre-development on some sort of follow-up on the title if that is Astral Chain 2 or a new IP we do not know. Bayonetta 3 is not going to be impacted by P* developing a follow-up or porting any existing titles.
I personally would love to see Scalebound return with Nintendo and Microsoft co-publishing the title. But, that's not going to happen even with Team Red & Green playing nice with each other this gen.
Probably nothing Ninty is publishing for them, so no Astral Chain 2 or Bayonetta 3. I’d love to be wrong, though!
The absolute dream would be Scalebound, or a new Okami since they teased that a while back (if seemingly jokingly).
@Coach_A I don't think youre understanding what I meant... Why not have both? I'm not asking for one or the other. I love both series, and bayo even more. I'm just saying astral chain 2 would be sweet. If there's more games to be released via platinum 4, why not wish for one you'd like to see is all.
@Wexter That's... what I said. I mean, other than the fact that I didn't speculate on whether Nintendo has future publishing rights or not.
Anyways, they've openly admitted that Nintendo had to approve them to put W101 on other platforms, so yes, we do know they still have IP ownership. And it's not co-owned, 100% of the IP is owned by Nintendo, same with Astral Chain. Check the Smash for Wii U title screen, Platinum isn't credited despite Wonderful 101 being in, unlike cases of shared IPs like Kirby and HAL or Pokemon and GameFreak and Creatures.
I think at least one of these titles will be an actual new game that Platinum is publishing. Or it could be them publishing Scalebound. Other than that, the only publishers Platinum has successfully worked with recently are Nintendo and Square so another Nintendo or Square title may be possible. And the Bayonetta 3 announcement seems to be highly probable.
@Wavey84 Maybe you should get an good old CRT then!
Maybe they are handling a Resident Evil 4 remake port for Switch.
@link3710 Really? My understanding was that it was a co-owned IP between the two based on what I read. I will need to double-check that detail.
Future publishing rights speculation were more due to Kamya being a troll/vague as always. His classic line of "Ask Nintendo and Sega" when asked about if there will be a Bayonetta 3 and other comments in interviews. So, it's easy to infer that either Sega at the time was not financially able to do a follow-up to 2 and needed the Big N's money or Nintendo had rights to future publishing deals. Granted Kamya is a known troll... but, Sega Reps if I remember also made similar comments around that time as well. That could also, be Japanese businesses being non-transparent about ownership and contracts as always.
As for Bayo 2 & 3 rights, we don't quite know how much Nintendo owns or doesn't. So, I wanted to elaborate more on what you said because for some reason most people either think Sega can just port Bayo 2, or Nintendo just owns/co-owns the IP. No idea where they get either idea from. It could be the full deal as in Sega needs to buy Nintendo out or it will lapse after a certain amount of years. Though it's also weird how Bayonetta's "short hair design" has only appeared on Nintendo licenced merchandise or in Nintendo published titles... does Nintendo also own that design along with the rights? This series and the exclusive deal is such an enigma that I hope an industry insider can give the full run-down.
Let's just say Bayonetta 2 & 3 may be a pain to get re-released if Nintendo and Sega ever end up on bad terms. :?
Perhaps Kamiya blocks himself on Twitter?
I hope it's a NEW IP. I love PlatinumGames as much as the next person, but now that they're going into self-publishing, I want to see them stretch their creative muscle even more than before!
It’ll be that they’ve taken over development of Metroid Prime 4...
@link3710 Thus, you're ignoring the facts about the 50/50 ownership of the Bayonetta IP. End of discussion. BLOCKED!
@Wexter Now THIS is what I truly want to see. Nintendo and Microsoft (now named Xbox Game Studios) co-publishing Scalebound for Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch (or next generation hybrid system).
@Heavyarms55 Sierra already did that with Leisure Suit Larry 5.
I own the rights to bayonetta and anything bayonetta related and I will do as I wish with it everyone! X x x x x x
@Leu10antFalcon FYI- Microsoft isn’t called Xbox Games Studios. They’re still called Microsoft.
Xbox Games Studios is the division of Microsoft that collects all of their game development studios under that one banner. Stating either ‘Xbox’ or ‘Microsoft’ in the context of this discussion makes sense; just wanted to clear up any potential confusion for anyone reading.
I doubt Famitsu is where they’d reveal the newest entry of their unofficial flagship game series, especially with Nintendo involved.
Though, I’d really like to see Vanquish and/or Nier: Automata come to the Switch.
Sod all this! Where’s the Nintendo Direct? Are we even having a full direct this year?
@Coach_A If it annoys you more then yes, I think they should
Nier: Automata for Switch.
@Wavey84 Any issues regarding video games are first world problems. Frame rate? First world problem. Console wars? First world problem. Complaining about how games play on your tv? First world problem.
Luxuries anyone can live without in fairness...
@Abeedo What a petty and spiteful thing to say.
Pikmin 4 - maybe they were behind the sequel
My absolute dream announcements for 2-4 would be:
🙏
The site lists the annoucement for the 27th in Japan, and the 26th for western audiences. So that sets it in a certain timeframe tomorrow.
Unless they're handling Pikmin 4 and/or the rerelease of the previous entries, I don't see myself going to Kickstarter again.
Love to see a Vanquish port, or even a Star Fox Zero redo. They have so much going on though, cant believe they're announcing even more. Fantastic stuff.
The announcement of a Kickstarter for a Wii U port lowered my expectations of the next three announcements for sure. Four new games would be neat; preferably all multi-plat, because that's how they're sort of advertising this.
@jarvismp
Since the year is almost over, I don't think we'll get a full direct anymore. ☹️
I don't see Vanquish anywhere among my Switch games. I mean, I'm getting hyped by a stupid number on the internet that holds infinite possibilities times 3, while I should be sliding, jumping, and shooting / dodging bullets in slow motion in a virtual world on a Nintendo handheld, with gyro-aiming and a physical cartridge.
Platinum Games, you have an explanation for this? I'm holding you responsible.
@Leu10antFalcon ...pffft okay? They don't own any of the IP itself, I don't see what the big deal is.
@Wexter Yup, that's exactly my understanding of the situation as well.
I hope it's another game in the NieR series, or a Switch port of Automata.
@MrBlacky Yep, that's it, it's technically over. Animal Crossing and done. Hang up those joycons until 2021.
@link3710 That good! Sorry about the other guy. No idea where he got the idea that Nintendo co-owns the IP or else the Nintendo bullet would have been on the recent re-release of Bayo 1 on PS4 like it will be for W101.
Platinum announces new Amy Rose costume DLC exclusively for the original release of Bayonetta 1
They’re working on MP4
Possible announcements:
Nier Automata for Switch
original Nier remastered for all the consoles.
@Wavey84 If you're going to be a graphics snob at least do it properly and advocate for a high-end PC, not a console. Compared to PCs at the time, when it was launched the PS4 was already out of date. Compared to PCs now, when it is launched the PS5 will already be out of date. Compared to PCs now the PS4 is laughably out of date. If there are any arguments for porting a game to PS4 in 2020, making it look better isn't one of them.
@EdScissorshands
My exact dream scenario as well. Personal fantasies include:
More realistically:
@link3710. President of platinum and bayo creator both said the own half the ip... Not once but twice in the interview
NIER for Switch.
@Lady_rosalina You wanna share that one? Cause every interview I've read suggests Nintendo only own partial rights to Bayonnetta 2&3 + the voices, and not 1.
The wonderful 102....... Like a glove!
@PanurgeJr Hey long time no see!
@WiltonRoots I figured I'd been gone long enough that NL may have curbed their propensity for hot takes/bad journalism, and at too many other sites you find communities that believe the most oppressive thing one can do is to believe a woman or write a well-rounded black character, so I thought I'd see what's up here again. I'm looking forward to the simple joy of being a Nintendrone again.
@PanurgeJr oh it’s still full of cage rattling headlines, knee jerk impatient crybabies who need to find something else to do and some of the sly dig trolls are still here (still as subtle as a house brick with their trolling though), but in between all that there’s some good dialogue to be found...
@link3710 recent interview look it up yourself
@Ajent Then why is the upcoming Minecraft spin-off is published by Xbox Game Studios?
@Leu10antFalcon I I mean, I could just point you back to my previous comment (from a month ago!!).
Xbox Game Studios is the department within by Microsoft that manages all of their game development and production studios. Minecraft is owned by Microsoft because they own Mojang. Mojang falls under the umbrella of Xbox Game Studios and is therefore published by them.
Xbox Game Studios is a department within Microsoft. Microsoft has not renamed to Xbox Game Studios. That why when you by a new copy of Windows it is still Microsoft Windows and not Xbox Game Studios Windows.
I’m not lying (or confused), a simple Google search will clarify this for you.
