Update (Thu 13th Feb, 2020 14:30 GMT): The sale is now live! We've shared a list of the sale's highlights and more info right here.
Original Article (Tue 11th Feb, 2020 11:15 GMT): Nintendo of Europe has revealed that a 'Blockbuster Sale' is set to take place later this week on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
According to the tease, posted to social media this morning, you'll be able to save on "critically acclaimed" Switch titles. Hopefully, this means we could see some nice savings on top games and franchises; the image reveals that, at the very least, we'll be able to get 33% off both Super Mario Maker 2 and Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
The sale will begin on 13th February at 15:00 CET (so that's 14:00 GMT). We'll make sure to update you when the sale goes live and share a list of the best deals available - make sure to check back with us for more on the big day.
What are you hoping to see on sale? Any games you've had your eye on for a while? Tell us below.

Again? Didn't we just have one recently?
I wish they did a sale on their online shop rather than the eShop. Would love to get some discounted critically acclaimed cartridges.
looking forward to this need some new games! can we have a direct too please?
@Moistnado Heard of America first?
Yes, we heard of it...
If it's just big first party games and the like then that doesn't do much for me. I've got a few good games on my wish list that I'm patiently waiting for a sale for but they're all indie titles.
Big sale to coincide with a Direct later this week?
@Moistnado If anything, I think we hear too much about America.
@Samasaurus I can't wait more this F.. direct!
If they want to discount some of the DLCs like the FE and Smash Pass I might be obliged to drop a few notes their way...
Started playing Three Houses around two weeks ago. It's very good.
A third off Fire Emblem already? That is very tempting indeed.
Just bought the DLC for fire-emblem. I swear if that goes on sale...
I nearly bought Mario Maker 2 yesterday, looks like I may have had a lucky escape.
I've been waiting what feels like forever for a sale on Fire Emblem + the expansion pass. I hope we get a sale on the game over here too. Seems like Nintendo of Europe does more sales for some reason.
Argh another sale where they bring their prices in line with the retailer prices and try to make it look like were getting a bargain
DKTF I hope.... I just want that game again.
So some 2 year old games that are still $60 will be on sale for $40? Yay?
Just waiting now for Thursday's Direct to be announced now..
@Moistnado Yep, we always have to envy the amazing deals Europe gets and just hope they toss us some crumbs here and there.
Would love to see a few quid knocked off GRID Autosport and The Touryst. Would bite if that happens.
Nintendo sale without using my Nintendo coins.
Fantastic.
It’s as if Nintendo keep having the same sale because they haven’t got anything new to sell us yet.
@SkullDragr "Europe".. I'm from Switzerland and we are quite with Nintendo prices. Nintnedo Games are always like 30% more expensive than everywher else in the world. Usually, a 19.99 EUR / USD Game is here 29 CHF, which is 30 USD / 27 EUR....
Let me guess... the 75% will be on the Mario+Rabbids game!
Best we can hope for is £33 for something that hasn't previously been reduced.
@Dman10 both came out last year? Not even 8 months ago?
I just want Ys VIII, Ni No Kuni and Civ VI to come down to... say, 20€ each (is it that hard?), and Dragon's Dogma to 15€. With those games I'd have enough entertainment for 6 months.
The Bayonetta pack should receive a discount as well. If it gets up to 20€, I'd get it too. They were really good on the WiiU, and I wouldn't mind to play them again before the third.
And yes, I want a Direct too!
@electrolite77 Along with Alien: Isolation, GRID Autosport and The Touryst are at the very top of my wishlist, too!
Just in time for my birthday. Haven't bought a new game for a couple of months so let's see what we've got!
Honestly I never get too excited about Nintendo’s reviews as the sale prices are rarely that low for big games. Bringing them down to like £19.99 or even £9.99 is a sale in my eyes, but £49.99 to £39.99 is still quite an investment. Of course this is probably due to my preference for physical games and the only big digital titles I buy are those I now treat as “rentals” and thus wish to pay what I used to in the Blockbuster era.
@Bliquid @Tao
Did they delete their comment?
39.99 pounds is still a bit too much since a pound is 5.57 brazilian reais and 222 reais almost represents a monthly grocery shopping for me. It's so sad that Nintendo isnt here anymore...
Is this only Europe or America is also included?I hope they put the Dragon Quest on sale.
Xbox is currently offering Resident Evil 2 for £17.50.
If Nintendo can't offer a similar quality game, for a similar price then I'll skip the Switch sale.
@Samasaurus Wouldn't it make more sense that the sale is making up for no Direct?
@Dman10
Both FE: 3H and Maker 2 are less than a year old
NoA needs to get its act together. Europe always has such great discounts.
@Dman10 Sadly same for 3 year old games.
I don't think it classes as a "Blockbuster" but I'm hoping they finally discount Deadly Premonition!
A nice discount on Alien: Isolation might tempt me to double dip on that too.
I want a goos sale on Pokken Tournament DX. I love that game. I have it on Wii U but I want it on the switch too...
It's good to see Nintendo do regular sales on their games. In the old days Nintendo games stayed full price for the entire console life cycle and sometimes even longer.
By Blockbuster, I hope it means we'll getting more than around 10 titles on offer. I'm waiting impatiently for a sale on Alien Isolation - It's only a double dip, but I would really love to have it for my ever growing backlog.
@Richnj I got battlefield one on origin for £4.49. And I’ve put 80hrs in so far. That’s what I call a bargain. Also got rise of the tomb raider for £5.99 on steam. Around Christmas time. Switch sales don’t get anywhere near those prices.
Almost haven't touched the predecessor, but I just might pick Mario Maker 2 up anyway
Show me what you got! nintendo!! Want big discounts. Payed full bucks for bayonetta games but loved them so all good.
@Earl_Grey I never touched it either but for some reason love the second one. Think it’s the 3D world stuff it’s gorgeous
Oh man, they might discount even up to 10 percent!
@dethmart @rex_rex @Samasaurus @quinnyboy58 I did some research and surprisingly, the longest we had to wait for a proper Direct is March 8th, not including a Direct Mini or game-specific Directs. Usually though they would come in February and last year we got one on Feb 13th. Hopefully we'll get one this week or next.
Do Nintendo's sales suck so bad over there that they can't ever bring these sales to the US?
I look forward to Switch sales just for the endless whining about Nintendo not wanting to give their games away
@BenAV Just buy them, reward yourself and the people that created them.
@TechaNinja Yea, something like "hey, Nintendo, ever heard of America?"
Yano, something stupid and whiny.
Since digital versions of Nintendo games costs more than physical, the 30% discount is in reality only 15% off or something.
A sale is worthless, if the standard price is too high. Why should I buy anything in the eshop for lets say 40€ instead of 60€, if the same or better price can be achieved periodicly for a retail version on Amazon and co? I've never understood this.
I'm an idiot and can't refuse a sale. My heart sank when I saw this as I already have 30 unplaced games on my switch but won't be able to refuse any descend deals.
What sort of tool complains about a big sale? This one...
@Grumblevolcano It's wishful thinking...I'm trying to persuade myself there's a Direct on the way!
Another sale is diluting the impact that sales have IMO.
I’m just waiting on a sale for GRID!
Looking forward to when the yanks have a similar sale a month after this one ends so the EU peeps can moan about never getting a decent sale like the yanks do.
For now I’ll appreciate all the yanks moaning about how the EU get all the decent sales.
I just enjoy the general misery and gnashing of teeth that accompanies Nintendo’s occasional decisions to charge less for something than they normally do for a while. It really points out what’s important in life.
@T7Hokage017 Thanks bby <3
@LavaTwilight I wanted to reply earlier, but I think this weak is dead already... we are "in the end" of the day and no announcements. Again, I can't wait more this Sh.... next week, PLZZZZ!!
@Friendly yes, the two shown are less than 1 year old, but I bet they will have other older $60 games on sale for $40.
What about NOA? Seems you get more of the deals, or at least this site being based there ignored it.
You may as well get the switch online thing for about £18 then u get super Mario world 1 and 2 and like a bunch of other games. Now that’s a bargain x x x x x x
@Savino Just add a new account with an EU address, best of both worlds and you don't lose any spare credit
@wratih9
I suspect software sales have been healthy as of late not only because of increased hardware base, but because specials have been bringing prices down to tolerable levels
I think most developers realized they can move more units when their games are not overpriced
Sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised
I'm expecting a list with the best sales with only GBP listed because the rest of Europe doesn't exist. Prove me wrong, NL.
Oohhh Fire emblem, will buy that one for sure.
PSA: The Switch is multiregion
@TechaNinja apparently
@YANDMAN My backlog's really big at this point so I usually just wait for sales now unless there's something I'm especially keen for. No point paying full price for a digital game unless I'm planning to play it immediately.
@Joriss Thats how it usually goes, and when it comes to PS, u buy a game and the next month it goes free on PS plus
I really want daemon x machina on physical but if I can get it for £19.99 or less on the eshop I'll crack.
For me Digital is just so much easier, invested in a large SD for the extra space. The hassle of taking/changing the cartridge when I’m out or equally when I’m sat on the sofa and can’t be arsed to get up and change the game, having it on the console is the best way.
However the pricing of digital downloads is verging on the ridiculous at times. The physical cartridge (with manufacturing/distribution and store profit to consider) is more often than not cheaper than the digital copy! This is madness as the digital cost is zero at the point of sale.
Sales are good but bringing the cost of digital down to retail is essential!!
Heads up for those in NA: Capcom and Ubisoft put their games on sale.
@the_beaver I want the Civ6 DLC on sale, it's a great game
@Tao I actually think we hear too much about the EU. I know Nintendo is trying to increase their foothold there but come on.
@BenAV
Agree
@Chris55 I'm a digital only buyer as well. There's a benefit of not being able to lose or break your game (useful with the kids around) and of course the convenience, always having your games around instantly.
I am baffled at the quality of sales in the ps store versus the lack of sales in the nintendo world as well. To be honest, that is the only downside that I run into personally.
Maybe finally my time to play Three Houses and Maker 2, been waiting for a sale.
Hmmm.Odyssey, Doom, the Witcher..Diablo, MK11, Xenoblade, Sonic Racing... not very exciting..
