Last week, Atlus said its recent survey asking about the games it should port to the Nintendo Switch had exceeded expectations. This followed, with the discovery Catherine: Full Body had been rated for the hybrid platform in South Korea.
Since then, there have been even more requests for Atlus to bring Persona 5 to the Switch. While there's been no official mention of such thing at the moment, IGN recently reached out to Atlus Communications Manager Ari Advincula and asked if it was time to give up on hope. This was her reply:
I am a strong believer in ‘never ever give up on hope'
You want what you want and if you don't let us know it we’re never going to be able to make it.
She further stated how Atlus was listening to the fans and understood the desire for a game like Persona 5 on the Switch – further reiterating how it was important for fans to voice their opinion.
At this point in time, the only Persona game for the Switch is Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers. Joker, the protagonist of Persona 5, has also appeared in a number of Switch titles including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Here's hoping! This game needs to reach an even wider audience than the PS4 can provide. It's a modern classic.
Whatever keeps the dogs barking, hm?
How loudly do they want to hear people beg?
Wasn't this already on nl?
You know it's bad when one of your own is in disagreement with the decisions made. Sadly I don't see much happening from this as Atlus' US branch has almost no authority regarding what they do.
But at this point I'm tired of hearing about Persona possibly coming to Switch. I quite frankly don't understand why Joker is in Smash at all if it's not happening. Of course I, like many, hope it does, but I'm not begging for anything. Unless they're about to release it officially or finally give us Shin Megami Tensei V news after it was announced three years ago, I'm done at this point.
Also, want to say, it looks like they think that port begging makes them more powerful. Not like giving them strenght to do sth good, but in a mr Burns ftom The Simpsons way of evil corrupted power that they consume and preserve
What more do they need? We've been asking for Persona on Switch for ages now.
I'm pretty sure Atlus has Chrometophobia.
Honestly, if they're going to port it, they'd better do it soon. Launching the sequel before the original on Switch would be the height of stupidity.
I enjoy Persona 5. Atlus is probably my all-time favorite video game developer. But they REALLY need to re-evaluate their messaging RE: Persona and get their heads out of their butts regarding the Switch. Given the fact that they were easily Nintendo's most important third party partner on the 3DS, it has been disappointing to see them flat out ignore Nintendo's super-successful new console for so long.
Bulllllllllllllllsh*t you have the data that says this should 100% happen and will make you boatloads of cash but you act like the publishers did during the Wii days wen they’d give those little lousy PR answers because you think releasing on Wii/Switch is belief you and/or you’re scared that it would outsell what it did on your pet console of choice.
As long as the homophobic scenes with those two characters are gone, go right ahead. You know what two characters I am talking about.
I refuse to play it unless it is on switch.
The fact that they aren’t flat-out telling us no and that they conducted a survey to gauge interest in this port has me hopeful. I’m starting to grow out of RPGs, but I think this would be a cool addition to the Switch’s library.
Haven't people been clamoring for this game on Switch for a while now? I know I have. The only way I could be more ready to buy it would be to open a separate account and have the $60 ready to go for a pre-order...
I need everything from Atlus!!!!
Persona
Persona 2: Innocent Sin
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
Persona 3 FEZ
Persona 4 Golden
Persona 5 Royal
Persona 3: Dancing Moon Light
Persona 4: Dancing All Night
Persona 5: Dancing Star Night
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
Catherine: Full Body
Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
The list goes on and ON!!!
This is one lady who has nothing to do with game development.
Janitor at Nintendo says Metroid 4 on PC.
The hype and desire for it is probably their way of making us do the work for them so they don’t have to have an expensive advertising campaign. Dangle it in front of us, starve us like it’s a famine, then when it is announced with standard and collector’s editions, wait for us to pounce ravenously on whatever they toss at us.
...it’s working.
Obviously, fans want it. Financially, it would be smart to concede.
All you have to do is make the game dude, you don't even need for us to ask you. Everyone who bought Joker for Smash Ultimate will want to know which game he originate from and if that game is not on the Switch, Joker will feel like an after thought character. Also Sega needs some financial help and this game for Switch will surely help them get some kind of a gain in revenue. Just don't be scummy like Capcom and put the whole full game on the cartridge.
Won't be long before Atlus starts a Kickstarter for a P5 Switch port...
"Let us know" ???????????????????????????????????????????????????
What rock are the people at Atlus living under where don't already know?
I don't have enough middlefingers to properly demonstrate what I think of Atlus right now. Darn you evolution! >.<
Instead of Persona 5 can Persona 3 and 4 come to Switch I've already got Persona 5 and can play that when ever I need Persona 3 and 4
Honestly I'm done with this whole begging thing.
I'm not a peseant who worships Atlus. If they wanna port the game, fine do it. If they are working on it, even better.... But don't act like y'all don't already know how much people want this. I will definitely buy it if it comes to the switch.
But I'm not a dog, if y'all are living under a rock, well my condolences. I'm not gonna bark and beg for this bone. I have better things to do and games to play . Jeez, at least act like a phantom thief, and not like a castle owner
@Averagewriter This is most accurate.
@Averagewriter Don't forget the other consolation prize of a Joker costume for Tokyo Mirage Sessions on Switch. That's close enough, right?
@JR150 it's obvious quite ob why Joker is in Smash, just for free advertising, tho it's getting quite stupid now with wanting people to beg for a Switch port, it aren't the Wii U, if they port it, it will sell simply due to being portable and the fact there's a lot of fans on the Switch Platform
I guess Atlus like other companies hate money
It feels like Atlus is just really sadistic by now
"We want Persona 5 on Switch!"
"Say that again? I can't heeeeear you!"
"Please give us Persona 5!"
"LOUDER!"
Wow, Atlus are pretty thick huh.
@NerdyBoutKirby I think it will sell way less than it did on ps4, but hopefully i'm wrong, even being a ps4 player i wanted that persona and bloodborne had been released in all platforms because they're awesome games and everybody should be able to play it.
Is it possible that Sony has a timed exclusivity on Persona 5 Royal, and that’s why Atlus won’t discuss it coming to Switch yet?
Atlus: So what do you want
People: /flood the internet
Atlus: But what do you WANT
People: /flood the survey
Atlus: But what DO you want
Either port the game or shut up and stop making fans port beg.
You known for ages that the game has had a strong demand and if you aren't going to go through with it then just stop wasting everyones time.
Atlus can go to hell.
@Trajan Yeah Sony fans want the death of Atlus by limiting the exposure of their games we know that. Persona 5 would do wonder on Steam but Sony would never do that they're too obsessed by killing the japanese industry.
Atlus' relationship with their fans has always been bizarre. I have a friend who has been a superfan of theirs for years and hearing him describe the way they milk enthusiasm and wring fans out for cash as if it's all perfectly normal kind of blows me away. I would hate to be hanging on their every word like so many of their fans are, cuz this endless uncertainty and expectation of begging seem a bit much.
@Dwarfette A point comes where people just give up and either buy it on another console, watch a stream or even just pirate it in some cases. Atlus are all about testing the patience of their customers. Maybe one day, just maybe, I can play that game that got recommended to me sometime in 2017 on my preferred platform. Only if I pray hard enough, though.
Yeah, no. If they have not ported it by now, at the peak of Switch popularity, they are not going to do so.
But at least we get a Musuo sequel that we never asked for, so that's something I guess. Oh, and Catherine. Because there was such a huge demand for Catherine on the Switch.
I love atlus but this new practice in the games industry of stringing people along is starting to wear me thin wish developers would announce it or rule it out and let everyone move on with their lives
With the latest censorship, not sure if I'm going to bother picking this up again.
This confirms Persona is not Sony exclusive (just like SMT is not Nintendo). Just port the games Atlus, it's not brain surgery or rocket science!
@GameOtaku
SMT was never Nintendo exclusive anyways. SMT 3 Nocturne was on PS2. So they're clearly willing to put each franchise on different systems. Ideally both SMT and Persona should just be on everything if you ask me.
@Trajan the topic discussed doesn't have much to do with game development either (except for the porting process, but doubt anyone expects a former PS3 release to have too much fine print in that regard), it's about the publisher's motivation to bring the game to a new platform. And it's no news that, regardless of their plans and schedules at a time, a continuous presence of explicit demand among the platform userbase helps keep the port more pitchable at all times (although unlike that lady, I wouldn't trust such a thing to fans - a fandom's definition of "asking" is equivalent to punching and kicking the door with a verbal backup full of no uncertain terms and epithets).
Same goes for the "wanna hear us beg?" kneejerks in other comments here. The point is, "audience interest doesn't budget, license and publish anything by itself, but it's one of the factors and its statistical recurrence is beneficial for the general odds". Again, that doesn't imply constant fanmouthed nagging - but there are civil limits and channels for this, including these very surveys Atlus keeps making. The rest is up to them, and their decision alone to make.
at this point im just not going to buy P5R (for the PS4) if the won't tell us if they bring this game to switch or not
im not going to buy this game thrice (P5, P5R and Switch Version)
@JR150
The biggest majority of ps fans though are claiming exclusivity to justify persona not coming to switch and that we have SMT as one when they are absolutely wrong.
Companies make foolish nonsensical decisions on a daily basis though so who knows?!
@GameOtaku
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
If (more) SMT was on PS then more people could respect the franchise that birthed Persona in the first place.
If Persona was on Nintendo Joker Smash fans can play his actual game without spending 200-300 dollars on a new console for this one game.
It's a win-win. But nope. Horrible Japanese management is horrible...
We still don't know what is the exact deal between Atlus and Sony about main Persona series. Maybe they are bound to keep the game exclusive to Playstation.
I hope they keep dangling Persona 5 in front of Nintendo fans... But never deliver. All the weeping and crying brings me joy.
@JR150
Not just Japan and it's not solely just the game market either. I work in a industrial factory and the decisions that are made are so inanely stupid it's surprising why they haven't gone bankrupt!
Jeez, every time I make peace that this game ain't coming (and go back to my PS3 copy) it all gets dragged up again.
Some certainty either way would be nice.
@JokerCK
Way ahead of you.
I'm really starting to feel like maybe nobody at Atlus is online. Like, ever. "Let us know". FFS from day one there hasn't been a single switch owner NOT begging Atlus to Port P5.
I think Atlus is scared to port p5 for the Switch because it might ruin their relationship with Sony.
That's it!!! Confirmed!!!!
I'm off to PushSquare to spread the news
As great as P5 was, I just can’t motivate buying Royal at full price again at the PS4, there’s just no enough added value for that.
But I would pay for a Switch port of Royal.
Weird response.
I dunno, I kinda feel like they missed their opportunity now.
This "maybe we release/port our game if you beg enough" mentality is getting out of hand these days.
Bring this and P4g and I'm good
How many times is Atlus going to say "beg us for Persona 5". I am not a fan of this game but to people that are, aren't you tired of this yet???
"I am a strong believer in ‘never ever give up on hope"
"You want what you want and if you don't let us know it we’re never going to be able to make it."
The purpose of this whole survey nonsense seems clear to me. Now that P5R is out now, sales of vanilla P5 will slow significantly if not stop outright as most people will opt for more content despite the higher price. Presently, ATLUS knows that they either can't port because it will upset their strongest partner or because they're legally enjoined by an exclusivity agreement that hasn't been publicly disclosed.
So ATLUS puts out this survey and says to Sony, 'Look, there is so much demand here for Persona on Switch. You have P5R as an exclusive on your system and probably most of P5S sales will be on your consoles. We want another turn at the trough with vanilla P5 on Switch; if you'll allow that, we'll give you a cut of the profit and expand the franchise. If you won't, we'll abide by that but we've carved out a strong audience on Nintendo during the 3DS era and that's carried over to Switch, which has shown strong growth worldwide. We'll have to revisit the matter of platform exclusivity for Persona 6 when we see how the Playstation 5 sales perform'.
Yes, there are rumblings that Sony may be opening up their grip on exclusivity with the rumors of HZD on PC but I'm still very dubious about Sony allowing its primary competitor at home and abroad to establish a beachhead on its most beloved and critically-acclaimed RPGs.
@PBandSmelly what? What are you talking about?
Bring all Persona games to Switch in Physical form for us collectors please.
I think Atlus and Sega should be embarassed by the way they managed communication on this.
First they say it is not going to happen, then they send out surveys asking whether we want P5 on Switch, among other ports of previous entries the Internet has been asking for forever.
Now they say keep asking, which is honestly both ridiculous and offensive.
I do not buy the theory there is a deal with Sony to keep this exclusive to PS4, and if there was it was time exclusivity, otherwise they would be mad to send out surveys asking it we are interested in a P5 port to switch. It honestly blows my mind they need to ask.
They should sort out their internal communication, it seems obvious to me this is a communcation/decision making issue between the Japanase and American branches: dumping this confusion on the customers is simply unprofessional.
The only way they could make this worse is finally release on Switch a port of the original instead of Royal.
How is it surprising that Royal did not perform well on PS4 in Japan after the people who, like me, played the original on PS4 put in over 100 hours? The game, whilst good, clearly outstays it's welcome and does not respect the player's time. The only way they can hope to meet their sale expectations is put it on a new platform.
Enough is enough!
Oh sheesh enough already! Atlus, put your money where your mouth is and put the P5 Switch port up on kickstarter. There you'll see there is more than enough consumer demand to justify developing it. I wouldn't be surprised if it outsells Witcher 3, and no doubt it would be a helluva lot easier to port!
Actions like this drive me away from companies like Atlus. There are plenty of other companies to support who want my money. Why support a company that wants me to beg?
@glaemay How is Sony killing the Japanese game industry?
Dang, Sony fanboys gonna be crying for years. Will be so worth it. Bring us Persona Sega, well reward you with riches. Sega said Persona 5 Royal sold very bad.
Atlus: "Do you guys want Persona 5?"
Switch owners: "Yes."
Atlus: "Can you guys fill out this survey asking if you want Persona 5?"
Switch owners: "Yes, we want it."
Atlus: "Don't give up hope. We need to hear from you."
Switch owners: "Yes. We want it!"
Atlus: "If you guys don't let us know, we will never make it!"
Switch owners: "YES! WE WANT IT!"
Atlus: "We decided not to port Persona 5. The demand just wasn't there."
Switch owners: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Day one for me if it ever shows up on the Switch.
Part of me is hoping it comes out for Switch so I can get it for Switch instead of PS4...
But the other part of me REALLY wants to get P5R.
I see sony hands on this one again as typical when they are loosing out on Exclusive what else do they do but bully the Developers to make only sony.
I think Persona 5 should stay on Playstation as much as SMT V will be Nintendo exlusive. (I own both consoles) So, I don't want a Persona 5 port on Switch. Soon I will play in P5R on my PS4 and I still waiting SMT V on Switch. And I don't want a faceless and boring future without exclusives like Microsoft want make.
@NerdyBoutKirby Not quite. It’s good enough, but no classic.
@Anvold
It'd make more sense to have both on both. It's not like SMT is a Nintendo exclusive. Or have you forgotten SMT 3 Nocturne?
“We’ve been asking for this for years...”
I’m sure Atlus are reading the world renown NL comments section.
@HappyMaskedGuy Whatever you say.
@NerdyBoutKirby Yes.
@Anvold
Can you explain exacly how this is beneficial to you?
@GameOtaku
I remember that SMT 3 (Nocturne/Lucifer's Call) is PS2 exclusive, but it was long time ago. You also can remember Project Zero (Fatal Frame) series, that was multiplatform, but now it is Nintendo exclusive. I think, if we try, we can find much more examples like that.
@Siafni
It is not beneficial to me. For me, Persona series is always a Playstation franchise, like Fire Emblem for Nintendo. If you wanna play in Persona games, you not buy Nintendo or Xbox. You will buy Playstation (like you never buy a Playstation, that play in Mario games). I just think, that it should be in that way. And if peoples really want to play in Persona 5, they already played it in 2017. If they still not played in this game, they not want it much.
And if SMT V will be on PS and on other platforms, it will make my Switch more useless, because I buyed it mostly for SMT V.
@Anvold
Difference being Persona is third party and Mario is first. If you want to play last of us you buy a PlayStation. If you want Halo an Xbox. But third party games are open season unless the console has supported its development (Bayonetta 2 for example) .Resident Evil 4 is a GameCube exclusive that's been ported to everything. Now W101 which is a wiiu exclusive is now been by ported to everything. Saying smt3 was a special case completely undoes most arguments about Atlus having exclusive series to specific hardware. If it happened once it can again!
@GameOtaku
I understand, but Persona was PS exclusive for begining and why it must stop to be a PS exclusive now? And we know nothing about Sony and ATLUS relationship about Persona. So, it will better if we not will be dream much.
You not completely right about third party games, that was supported by platforms. Just remember Death Stranding, that was supported by Sony and it will come on PC soon.
RE was mostly PS franchise from begining. And Capcom just can't ignore the most popular platform in the world - PS2. W101 is failed with Wii U and now just a fans support this port on kickstarter. It will be multiplatform obviously.
SMT 3 was not a special case, becase SMT and SMT 2 also was ported on original Playstation. And Soul Hackers was ported from Sega Saturn in Japan. SMT always was multiplatform, but since SMT IV it is Nintendo exclusive.
@Anvold
Since SMT 4? Wow only one game after 10 years or so from the don't release of a franchise being essentially dormant makes SMT a Nintendo exclusive?
Unless a game is made specifically by first party you can't claim exclusivity. Say Naughty Dog didn't sell its rights to Crash, it would be a Sony exclusive since they bought ND. But because a third party has the rights it's now available on Nintendo platforms among others. You have to admit it'd definitely expand their reach rather than being limited to just Sony.
"if you don't let us know" Have we not been letting you know? Has the last full year of port begging been my imagination? What on earth do you define as "letting you know" if this hasn't been it?
@GameOtaku
Only one game? What about SMT IV: Apocalypse and that SMT V was announced only for Switch?
Why? Persona series was made more then 20 years ago only for Playstation, like many other games for other consoles, and still it is Playstation exclusive. Why it must be multiplatform? As I said before, we know nothing about Sony and ATLUS relationship about Persona.
I think, that third party exclusives - is a good thing and should be exist. That makes a platforms more unique and interesting. And I am sure, that we'll never see Persona 5 on Switch, like we'll never see SMT V on other platforms.
Yes, it is definitely expand their reach, but peoples will stay in their "corrals". Not a games, but gamers must expand their reach, that not to be a blind fans of one platform. Why Atlus must port a series, that was available only on PS consoles more then 20 years, on Switch? Why Sony must let it go? I just don't understand it. If you wanna play in exclusive game for other platform, you just buy that platform, isn't it? You not cry or beg for port, like many Switch users (it is not only about Persona 5, but about many games, that didn't relase on Switch), because it's pity. You just buy it and play, like did it 10 or 20 years ago. Why it must change now?
@Anvold @Anvold
I don't know, wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to buy a Switch to play SMT5? You want things to stay this way to justify your purchase? I understand why Sony or Nintendo may want games to stay exclusive to their platform, and to me as a gamer it makes sense that they do that with their first party games, as they invest good money on making top notch games that create value for the platform and for gamers. But paying a developer not to release their game elsewhere is a sh...y practice if you asked me, and no gamer in their right mind (fanboyism is a mental illness) should be in favour of that.
@Anvold
Because they stand to make more money as a developer by making their games more widely available than just putting all their eggs in one basket. I don't know about you but not many are going to rebuy essentially the same game again on ps4, but if they port it to switch it'll sell better.
Honestly third party exclusives are a joke and mean next to nothing. Just line you said capcom would've been foolish to not see the potential in a ps2 port of the then gcn exclusive RE4, they'd be foolish to pass up a switch port.
@Siafni
Yes, because in that way, I buyed Switch later and got new or Lite version. No, I just want, that all platform will be more different, with different games. That's all. I like how it was in 6 and 7 generation, then all platforms had many exclusives.
Why you think, that Sony paying ATLUS, that it not port Persona 5 on Switch? Maybe they just have a contract or something else, that we don't know. In that case, it will be better, if we not made a quickly conclusions and stop dreaming.
I completely agree with you, that fanboyism is a mental illness, but why you think, that no gamers can think in other way? If you have all actual platforms, you not need for beg exclusives. You just buy and play it, and you can choose a better or cheaper version of multiplatform. A new console = 5 new games, it is not much. I just want have a really different platforms, but not a similar boxes with 1-2 different games.
@GameOtaku
It's not about "if they want", it's all about "if they can". If they can, then Persona and Persona 2 was on many platforms like SMT and SMT 2, but it not. So, I think Atlus still can't port main Persona series on other platforms.
I think, that P5R will sell better, then orginal game, because me and all other Persona fans, who I know, gonna buy a extended version of game + new peoples also gonna buy it. We had Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 Golden, and it was worth their money. P5R and P5 - is not a same game. Extended version have tens hours of new content, story changes and many new features. You can complete a few Mario or Unchartred games in that time. Of corse it worth to rebuy.
I not think, that third party exclusives are a joke and mean next to nothing. It makes a platform more nice and different. PS4 with Persona 5 as exclusive and Switch with Bayonetta 2 looks more interesting then without them.
Well...GC solld poorly and PS2 is the best selling console in the world. Of corse, port of RE4 was worth it, even against Nintendo, especially, that previous games was on PS. But Persona - is different thing. It always was a PS exclusive and main series never was on Nintendo. And PS4 is a leader of this generation. Do you still think, that port on Switch is worth it? Anyway, we don't know all things. Maybe Atlus just can't do all things, that it want.
@Anvold
Yes the switch is soon going to catch the ps4 in sales so a port is a no brainier. Besides don't you think if there was no way Persona could be ported to anything else why they would ask on a survey if we wanted it? Seems redundant to ask consumers if they want a port of a game that has no chance of coming.
@JR150 joker is in smash because sakurai picked him. He loves the game the menu in smash is based on P5. simple as that. people whining for it to come to switch think they are owed it.
ps scramble runs like trash on the switch and the switch is not as powerful as the PS3. sorry.
@retro_player_22 persona 5 is on the PS3 and Ps4 its $20. banjo is on the Xbox. lots of people never played banjo
@NintendoPok
First off, Nintendo chose the DLC not Sakurai.
Second. You do realize the Switch has more RAM and storage than the PS3 and 360 combined, right? Heck, the Wii U was more powerful than them. It uses a 2015 chipset, of course it's stronger than consoles from the previous decade. I do not think that Overwatch or Doom 2016 and Eternal could run on those systems. It's just a matter of how well optimized a game is and that's entirely on the devs.
@GameOtaku
Soon? It was a joke? Even if all people stop buying a PS4 right now, Switch need 2 more years, that to reach PS4 level. But it is not gonna happen, because PS4 still have a good sales and soon we will see The Last of US 2 and Ghost of Tsushima on it. So, I think, that it is quite impossible for Switch to reach PS4 level.
And don't forget about, that we will see a new generation of consoles in this year. Switch sales also will drop, like it was happen with Wii U, then PS4 and Xbox One was relased. It is common destiny of "between generations" consoles.
They can have their reasons. Maybe they just not want to decline it stright. But I also remember, that Atlus PR Manager John Hardin wrote in Twitter in 2017: "Persona 5 platforms: PS3, PS4. THAT'S. IT. No Switch. No PC. Idk about the box label, that's a Sony thing". I thinked, that it was pretty clear.
@Anvold
Apparently it's not as clear as you think. I don't see switch losing steam anytime soon and its popularity and sales grow day after day. A pro version of switch could also boost sales after the new gen is released too.
Back in 17 he may have said those were the platforms it would release on but didn't say I repeat did not say it was Sony exclusive. As I said they wouldn't run a survey asking if we want a port on the switch when there was no chance of it happening.
Look, if there's some sort of deal Atlus has with Sony that they don't want to drop because of Persona's selling power, that's fine. I'm more than happy with consoles having their own exclusives to gain interest, I'm a Nintendo fan, it would be hypocritical to say otherwise. However, that doesn't seem to be the case, which makes Atlus' approach to this confusing.
First, If you really, REALLY want to keep Persona on Playstation, than why on Earth would you allow Joker to be part of the game??? I considered Jack Frost as a general SMT rep because he's the closest thing the series has to a mascot, and he's appeared in so many games-INCLUDING the SMT series which has been playable on Nintendo consoles for a while. If anyone at Atlus spends a split second online, they'd know how much buzz Smash generates for a character and the series they're from. The port begging should have been expected, and to an extent, it's justified, since the other character in Joker's shoes, Cloud, got their game release on Switch later on.
Second, if Atlus had any interest in releasing this game, they should have planned it just after Joker's release. That was when the iron was hot, and sales could be maximized because of the "OMG, he's in Smash" factor that's been part of Smash' existence as advertising. The ship has sailed, and if Atlus were to make a million sales on P5 for Switch, that'll probably still be less than what they could have earned if they launched the game months ago.
Seriously, Atlus should have picked someone else for Smash for a game they could have sold on Switch freely, and just shut down hopes for this years ago. Now they've got confused and angry fans bugging them constantly, and this was probably the worst thing that could be done to try and cool things off. Good job there Atlus.
@JR150 ok https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoNRhm2XBZU
@GameOtaku
Why if he clearly said: "No Switch". What thing can be more clear?
Switch on it's peak of popularity right now. It's sales will drop in this year already, because new gen is coming.
Switch Pro? Sorry, but it sounds even more impossible, then a port of Persona 5 on Switch.
@Anvold
But he didn't. Obviously at that time they didn't think the switch would've took off like it did. But now they ask if we would buy a port and the results speak for themselves.
I honestly think Sony losing the exclusivity is well justified considering their stance on censorship lately. (Shocking also as seeing their best sellers are bloody, gory, violent games and aren't touched but heaven forbid any fanservice, which in comparison imho is far more tame and less damaging than realistic violence,)
@GameOtaku
They asks not us about port. They asks only japan players. And if you look on Persona 5 Scramble sailes, you will see, that Switch version was sold almost in triple times worse then PS4 version. So it show us a real situation a lot better then any poll.
Why you say about Sony censorship, then Nintendo's much worse? Just remember Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore (there even a japanise version was censored) or Fire Emblem Fates. I never saw a games, that was mutilated so much for censorship. Sony censorship is much more softer then Nintendo's. I can dress girls in bikini in Persona 5 for PS3/PS4, but I can't do it in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. That's all, that we need to know about Sony censorship politic.
Violence exist almost in any game, even in Mario. So any violence, even realistic, is not bad if it is just in game. Our real world is much more violent then any game.
@Anvold
You're wrong about the sales. The switch version had sold around 70% of its stock while the ps4 version only sold 50% of its. That tells me the demand for the series is strong on the switch. Even you have to admit Royal would sell stronger on switch than ps4 since they already have the game and with it being on switch would expand its fanbase rather than being restricted to one system. Especially given the fact Sega and Atlus are needing increased revenue to stay afloat. It's just a good business move. Or would you and the rest of the Sony diehards rather see them go under just so long as persona stays where it's at?
Look at the senran Kagura series on Sony, or even persona 5 Royal! Sony is becoming the Nintendo of the 90s while Nintendo is becoming like Sony of the same time period!
@GameOtaku
Why I wrong about sales? That means only, that there was a much less copies of game for Switch then even it was already sold on PS4, but even it can't help to sell it all on Nintendo platform. That's all. Not much people really wannt to see Persona on Switch.
I can't admit it, because it will be almost different game with all DLC and with tons of new content. Many people waitng and will by it again and of course new plaeyrs will by it too. Playstation players know much about Persona, but on Nintendo it will be almost unknown. So I think a Switch version (if we imagine that it exist) can't be sell better then PS4 version.
As I said before, we can'talk about business, if we not know all details.
If Atlus will stay with Sony - this is ok for them. Persona - is the most popular and best selling their franchise. And thats all because of Playstation players. As I said, if peoples really want to play in exclusive game, they will buy a console for it. What wrong with it? It always works in that way and this is not bad. Persona 5 was relased in West 3 years ago already. You always can just get and play it. If peoples said, how much they want play this game, but not did it already, they lied. They want play this game not much.
What about Senran Kagura? I mean a last game of this series, that I played was Estival Versus. And I can't remember something wrong with it.
And what about Persona 5 Royal? You mean, that they gonna change 2 typical gays? That's all? Well...a Nintendo censorship in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE and Fire Emblem Fates is much more worse.
@Anvold
Boy gee ain't that a smart idea! Go out and buy a $200 console to play a $60 dollar game! Or buy a last gen system to play one game on? That's still around $100 investment.
The brunt of your argument is basically persona should only be on Sony because it's persona. That's not much of an argument.
@GameOtaku
Man, it is old game. 3 years was passed already. You always can get with discount. It is less then $20 dollars now on PSN. And used PS3 is very cheap now. And you'll pay not only for Persona. PS3 and PS4 has many great exclusive games. What wrong with it? If you you want to play in Playstation exclusives, you will buy Playstation. If you wanna play in Nintendo exclusives, you will buy Nintendo. Persona always was a PS exclusive, so who's problem if you picked a wrong console or not buyed both? Or you can also wait something, that may never happens. You can always choose.
I thinked, that we talked about can Switch get a Persona 5 or not, but not about should it or not. Only Atlus can decide should or not Persona 5 be on Switch. And I think it can't, because japaniese gamers not really interested in Persona 5 S on Switch and because Atlus not anounced a port. And it is okay for me, because I think, that we should have different games on different platforms. They will be more unique in that way.
@Anvold
It's not like you're going to quit being a fan of persona if it does come. Right? If I'm a fan of a series I'm going to advocate for it to be more accessible (if possible) so more people can enjoy it as much as I do. Sony fans really are the worst. Outside of persona there nothing I want from ps4 so no I can't justify buying a whole new setup to just play one game.
Again I'll say it. With Atkus asking us if we want a port there's no exclusivity deal. You say we want buy it if it does! What gurantee did they have scramble would sell as well as it did on a system that doesn't even have the prequel! Most probably bought it not to play, but to show that persona will sell! PlayStation fans review bombed Astral Chain because they wanted it! So when ask about a port of persona, we don't bomb.
@GameOtaku
I am not a fan of Persona, I just like this game series much. It is different things. I am not gonna play in Persona Q 1 or 2, because I not like simple dungion crowler gameplay, I not gonna play in Persona 3 and 5 Dancing, because I Played in Persona 4 dancing and I not like it enough. So I not gonna buy and prise all Persona games, because it is just Persona, like many Nintendo fanboys did with Nintendo games. Be fan is a bad thing, because in that case you can't think cleraly
Is Sony fans really are the worst? Did you forget about how Nintendo fans review bombed Horizon Zero Dawn or situation with Jim Sterling? He even made a research, that Nintendo fans more often review bombed, the Sony fans. So I can say, that Sony fans is bad. PC and Xbox fans is bad also. But Nintendo fans was the worst always.
What wrong in that, if you want to play in exclusive game, you buy a console for it? Same was with me, then I buyed Switch just for Xenoblade 2. But soon I also get Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, soon I will get Xenoblade Definitive Edition and hope, that in one day I can play in SMT V on it. But you can discover a lot more great games on PS4, then I did on Switch.
You interested only in Persona 5 on PS4. If you truly into japanise games, it is lie. Then how you can skip such great exclusives as Bloodborne, Gravity Rush series, Yakuza 6, Judgment, Catherine: Fullbody. What about multiplatform games, that you never get on Switch like Darks Souls III, Devil May Cry 5, Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy type-0, Guilty Gear Xrd, Nier Automata, Ni no Kuni II, Nioh, Sekiro, Tales of Berseria, Trails of Cold Steel series, Hatsune Miku Project Diva X, Odin Sphere, Summon Night 6 and etc. And if you interested not only japanise games, you will find a lot more of them. So why you think, if you get a PS4 you'll gonna play only in one game?
I will say it again too. Atlus askednot us, but japanese players only. And the answeted by Scrambe sails. So Atlus can see, that a Switch players not much interested to see a Persona on their platform. That's simple. They said to us only one thing: "belive guys into something, maybe it's gonna happen". That sounds funny.
Playstation fans is not much wrong about Astral Chain. I also rate it 3/10 on metacritic, beacuse it was a biggest disappointment of 2019 for me. I thinked, that I'll get a great game like Metal Gear Solid Revengeance, But I got just a bad action game, with broken mechanics, bad platforming, boring story, stereotypical characters, annoying sister/brother and meaningless detective elements. So what wrong if PS fans review bombed it? Bad games must get a bad score, right? And I am really happy for guys, who wanted to play in Astral Chain, but can't do it, because they will gonna spend their $60 on better games. But It's still some sad, that I already spent my $60 for supporting bad game.
But Nintendo fans (especially crazy Zelda fans) review bombed Persona 5 then it's just released in 2017 like they did it with Horizon. Nintendo fans and Sony fans not much different. They both have just a one console, live in their own small worlds and they can't see a whole thing. Sonyfan's world just some bigger. That's all.
@Anvold
If persona was a first party exclusive I could see your point. But it's not. Sony would not allow Joker or any persona media be on anything else but it's platforms. If the sequel spinoff sold 70% of its stock on switch then it doesn't matter if ps4 sold more but only 50% of its! To me that shows more were interested in the switch port over the ps4!
@GameOtaku
And what wrong with that Persona isn't a first party exclusive? Switch and other consoles also have their third party exclusives. And it is good. That make platforms more different.
Why you think, that Sony wouldn't allow Joker or any persona media be on anything else but it's platforms? I think it is good move to put Joker in Smash and relase Scramble on Switch, that more people will be interested in main series and buyed their console. The same thing they did with Persona 4 Arena series, then it was relased on Xbox 360. But did you saw Persona 4 for Xbox? I am not. So why you still belive in Persona 5 for Switch?
This percents only show us, that Atlus thinked that on Switch it will sell much worse then on PS4, so they made much less copies for Switch. And sales show to us, that Atlus was right. 115.995 copies of Persona 5 Scramble was sold on PS4 and only 46.415 was sold on Switch. It was sold amost in 3 times worse on Switch then on PS4! So all things is pretty clear now.
@Anvold
Considering the main persona 5 isn't on switch (yet) those numbers are good. Need I remind you that scramble isn't a one off spinoff. It's a direct sequel to 5. Nintendo chose Joker for smash so something else is going on behind the scenes that you are obviously oblivious to. They aren't just going to be advertising for sonys console. Atlus Japan asked if we wanted a port. Fans answered! The Atlus West branch says to hound Atlus to bring a port! If there is any exclusivity deal with Sony, there own PR people are not going to advocate or ask for something that's impossible!
There's a huge span of time between p4 and its remake golden and its fighting/dancing spinoffs, around 8 years!
I'm beginning to wonder if you would stop being a fan of Persona if and when a port came to switch or any other console. I know that Mario is only on Nintendo because they own him. Same with Nathan Drake on PlayStation because they own the IP! Again with Halo on Xbox! First party games are what most of us buy the consoles for! We can only have certain series on the console. Third party companies like Atlus, Capcom and Konami are different! They have no brand loyalty. Take Bayonetta 2 + 3 for example. The only reason it's exclusive to switch is Nintendo funded their development and owns half the rights! Sony paid for Street Fighter 5 hence why it's half owned!
Just a reminder that people wanted P5 for Switch even before the Switch’s release
