With no warning whatsoever, the Switch has today been treated to its first Crayon Shinchan game in the form of Crayon Shinchan: The Storm Called! Flaming Kasukabe Runner!!. Another snappy title, then.
Available as we speak on the North American eShop, the game was previously released on iOS and Android devices. It's a jump-action game featuring the five-year-old Shinnosuke "Shin" Nohara, star of the Japanese manga series the game is based on, and it looks as bright and bonkers as ever.
We have some screenshots and an official description for you below:
Everyone's favorite five-year-old, Shinnosuke, makes a Fierce Dash to collect sweets and Golden Balls. Get lots of different costumes using Golden Balls, obtained by proceeding from one stage to another and completing special missions! Enjoy Shinchan and his friends wearing a variety of cosplay clothes, well-known to people familiar with anime and movies!
As noted above, you can go ahead and grab this one as we speak for $9.99. The eShop listing says that this is a game that "anyone can easily play".
Are you familiar with the series? Do you like it enough to tempt you into a purchase? Let us know with a comment below.

Why, but why not?
Is this an endless runner?
I have fond memories of Shin-chan animation, but that was quite a long ago, I wonder how big is the series in Japan to this day
That last action shot is glorious, but needs the Horsey Poo Park statue, I think. This really does look bonkers.
Adore this series, but sad that this looks to be mobile rubbish, especially considering that asking price.
So apparently the adult humor of the Funimation dub isn't there. Kinda ruins the point.
@OrangeSoda That was my first thing to check as well. I'm a huge fan of the Funimation dub, but it isn't considered canon at all, so sadly that completely kills any chance of the games ever including that same style of humor or any of those references. Even if it's an official US port like this.
I doubt we'll ever see a Funimation-branded Shin Chan game here in the US, but I would buy it in a heartbeat if it happened.
Action B*stard I neeeeed youuuuuuu.
@mazz What does this dance have to do with anything??
Love the Funimation dub as well. $10 is quite a steep price for this standard-looking runner, though. And it’s just Crayon Shin Chan.
I wish the Adult Swim dub of this show was still running, that was surprisingly great.
@HobbitGamer Which dance? There are so many. But the one where he says action b*stard I need you seems to come about when Shin is distressed and in need of Action B*stards emotional support. Like when his mom beats up his dad. At least in the Funimation dub.
Interesting that this translation seems to be a mix of the Funimation dub and the Japanese original, since some characters have their English names like Georgie and Penny. Too bad they didn't keep the more adult humor, like the superhero being named Action B*stard. Though the Japanese version wasn't as crude as the dub, it was still very suggestive, like here it says you collect "Golden Balls" (kintama) which is also slang for testicles in Japanese. XD
Shin-Chan! Will keep an eye on this one, I checked eShop and...there's 2 title screen shots? Was hoping to see some gameplay to get an idea on what to expect. Is there voice acting? Is it Japanese? Or will I get to hear one of my favorite actress's goofy Shin-Chan voice? lol
They should make a shinchan RPG. That would be fun!
@mazz Yeah, I was quoting the very next line Shin says. It’s the episode where he thinks he has to save Hima because Nonako is practicing her acting, he thinks she’s a mugger.
i used to love the show as a kid on adult swim as a kid
I checked out a video of this game... it's just a simple mobile phone port.
@LexKitteh I'm hoping they'll update it and fix some things for us, just bought it myself. (I'm sad that I don't get Laura Bailey. TwT lol)
Seems apostrophes gives us large spaces in text, and yeah...the names. Some of them are fine...then there are ones like Bouchan and Shiro. Ah well, maybe they'll fix their English names at some point.
...Also...oh gawd Happiness Bunny is in this. xD
@Bobb Yes, it's an endless runner, but it's really fun!
To this day, Shin-chan is big enough in Japan to the point that there's an official shop in Osaka, Sendai, and Tokyo Station.
@OjaruFan That's very interesting. So Shin-chan is that kind of mascot that outlives it's generation, maybe like Doraemon?
Thank you for the information
@Bobb "So Shin-chan is that kind of mascot that outlives it's generation, maybe like Doraemon?" - Pretty much. I wouldn't be surprised if Shin-chan is still a popular mascot in 2040.
"Thank you for the information" - You're welcome.
