The latest Pokémon anime series is somewhat nostalgic for veteran fans, as it heavily features the Kanto region – and that means Ash and company get the chance to become reacquainted with some familiar faces from the past.
That includes Jesse and James of Team Rocket fame, who, after a break in the past series, have returned with one of their best-ever introduction sequences.
In the third episode of the new series, they are told by Team Rocket boss Giovanni to steal as many Pokémon as possible – nothing new there, then – but while their intentions are the same, their new introduction animation is off the hook.

Sadly, the series isn't available outside of Japan at the time of writing, and while it was previously possible to watch episodes online, that door has now closed.

Of course this your typical front-loaded budget, make the earliest produced and aired episodes in a season or series look the best.
The later ones aren't gonna look as good as this.
@RupeeClock : They always put more effort/money into footage that will be repeated to death throughout the series, similar to the evolution sequences in Digimon or the transformation sequences in Sailor Moon.
@Silly_G
Yeah, but the Team Rocket intros are often re-animated throughout the series due to them wearing all kinds of costumes or being in different situations.
They do get re-used sometimes, but not always.
'a white tomorrow awaits us.'

@RupeeClock : Not so much these days. Sun and Moon had a motto sequence that was repeated throughout the series. It seemed that when episodes were running a little long that they would skip the motto, and several episodes did not feature Team Rocket at all (which was a nice change of pace as their arbitrary presence can be quite grating at times). In the early seasons, they were virtually always animated from scratch, though the animation quality was considerably more frugal than what we have now.
Team Rocket motto and Z-move animations aside, Sun and Moon reused very little animation.
So they still use that artstyle Sun & Moon die, ugh
They are back.....
And also with their fling to the sky become stars. 🤣
Yeah, they still use the IMPROVED animation style. Characters are expressive. You get all sorts of poses and body language. Before Sun and Moon, everything was done with stock poses. Take a screenshot, it would look beautiful. Watch it in motion, and it was lifeless. Now, it's the opposite, and I'll take bad screenshots over bad animation.
@YozenFroghurt they don't need to die, just be shoved into the side charecter roster that shows up once in a blue moon like brock & misty are. though it looks like they might be aiming to replace ash with go by the end of this; much like how tpc is putting more faith in mobile games than the main series games. it looks a lot like the current series is more then likely going to have as much(if not more) pokemon go basis as it will SwSh basis.
@Floof_Cat Don't make a fool of yourself, the animation studio cut corners in the animation change. It also doesn't change the fact that even with Ash's win they still intend to keep him forever so as they make the Pokémon anime first and foremost an advertisement for the latest gen games before a proper TV show.
Can we just let the anime just end already?
I love Jessie. She such a Diva. James is stupid. Meowth’s voice sounds really sleazy to me and it through me off (o_o)
I watched the third episode. It quite humourous. I like the new character designs and animation. Lovely show.
