With all of this chatter regarding the upcoming live-action Sonic movie, it's easy to forget that there have been other attempts to bring the character to life outside of video games – including more than one animated cartoon series.
With that in mind, it's worth noting that on December 1st, seasons one and two of Sonic X will go live on Netflix in North America.
Unlike the first Sonic cartoon, this particular project – which made its debut in 2003 – was handled in Sonic's homeland of Japan, with TMS Entertainment (the animation subsidiary of SEGA Holdings Co., Ltd) producing and Hajime Kamegaki in the director's role. Yuji Naka – then still a part of Sonic Team – worked as Executive Producer on the series.
Will you be streaming this when it hits Netflix? Do you have any fond memories of Sonic X, or were you put off by the infamously bad western localisation? Let us know with a comment below. In the meantime, you can actually watch episodes on TMS' official YouTube channel.

Are you sure it's Sonic X and not the New Sonic Movie? Because the New Movie looks like it should skip Theaters and go straight to dvd & Netflix IMO.
Oh dang, Disney better watch out!
Wow, throwback. I remember this was at least better than Sonic Underground, which has aged the worst of any TV show in the world ever.
Wait, who owns the rights to this show? Since 4kids went bust and they did the original dub.
@RupeeClock SEGA's animation division made the show, so they have the rights after 4Kids went bust.
Good. My kid's been watching Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog and while it's great for my nostalgia it'll be nice to watch something a bit more modern...
Netflix Germany will also get Sonic X on December 1st.
I know people who prefer the Japanese version will hate me for saying this but I much prefer the English dub over the Japanese version. Yes, I know the Japanese version is superior but the reason I prefer the English version is because it does not have profanity unlike the Japanese version and I don't blame 4Kids for taking out that stuff but I do agree that the localization could have been better.
Add the Japanese sub I'd be interested.
I snuck the Chaos Emeralds! dun I snuck Sonic! DUN!!!
My Chronic Sonic 'Tronics!

Sonic X is one of my guilty pleasures. Yeah the localization could of been better, and it’s a really cheesy cartoon. But I honestly like it. Definitely better than TAOSTH.
This made me reminisce about the old Gameboy Video titles that came out. My son was about 10 at the time and I tracked down a bunch of them for road trips for him to watch on his GBA when he wasn't gaming. I seem to remember him having Sonic X, SpongeBob, Shrek, Dragon Ball Z...
gotta go faster!
sonic 06 confirmed for Switch?
Man Netflix is dead. Haven't had it in awhile. Its trash.
Oh, wow, Netflix sure is rolling out the big guns.
Cancels netflix account
Also Netflix Netherlands!
Man, I think I still have recorded episodes of this and "Kirby: Right Back At Ya!" on VHS somewhere. Hooray for timer-enabled VCRs!
Say what you will, but those analog-format copies have one advantage over streaming... they have the commercials from that time included.
@SmaMan
Odd isnt it ?
When watching them right now, you can't stand them. But 10, 20 years later, you go: oh hey I remember that.
@KitsuneNight
It's a time-capsule, for sure.
It's just like pop music. You can't step out of your house without hearing it over and over again somewhere, but once it hits the "classic" stations, you get a good nostalgia hit.
I'm not the only here that thinks Chris looks like Sora from Kingdom Hearts?
@SmaMan
Unless it's Christmas songs
They get really annoying a week in.
Just because 4Kids touches it doesn’t make it bad. (most of the time. we don’t talk about One Piece)
Just look at the Kirby anime.
Oh no. Anything but that Chris kid again...
Netflix just got K-On! recently as well. They’re doing a good job fighting the good fight against Disney+
Netflix in North America is not the same for the whole continent. United States is what this means I assume.
I used to hate that kid character so much.
I have fond memories of the theme song. I LOVED the theme song and enjoyed the show.
Does this mean that Kirby Right Back At Ya has a chance??
@CurryPowderKeg79 >They changed the design to satisfy raving fans desires.
>It should go directly to dvd after pouring all that money into it lol
Don't ask Paramount to do s*** for you then. How's that sound?
@Kirbster1992 YES PLEASE
Yea @Dakotastomp i saw the redesign of Sonic. And although the new Sonic looks 100 times better IMO. I still think it's going to be a pretty bad movie.
@CurryPowderKeg79 Yea, video game and Toy line tie-in movies are always going to be bad in one way or another, but when a studio takes the time to remodel and fix their designs and listen to the fans and criticism, then I think it's worth going to see to show Tyson Hesse and the crew that their work was worth the ticket price. Besides, I'm liking the writing and lines so far in the trailer. It's at least a step up from "Alvin and the chipmunks".
As for Sonic X... That was... a thing. I still remember being embarrassed to watch it with my family due to Sonic x Amy scenes. Season 3 was amazing tho.
@nessisonett I liked Sonic Underground and have the dvd collection.
@ALinkttPresent Whats wrong with Disney+?
And definitely watching this, I watched the original run every week on Foxbox, I wanna see if it holds up!
Sonic and Tails? More like, Sonic and Chris- the human who every kid can relate to.... that is, if your mom was a worldwide famous actress, your dad was a billionaire, your grandfather was Doc Brown from Back to the Future, your uncle drove F1 race cars for the police force, you lived in a giant mansion, and had a Japanese butler and a Hispanic maid! But hey, we all can relate to that! Right?!?!
