Yesterday, Nintendo reconfirmed multiple upcoming releases on Nintendo Switch. Highly anticipated ones like Animal Crossing: New Horizons obviously won't be showing up until next year and Metroid Prime 4 doesn't even have a date.
Luckily, there are plenty of other first-party games ready to go this holiday season. The major ones in particular – as can be seen in the slide above – include Ring Fit Adventure, Luigi's Mansion 3 and Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Company president Shuntaro Furukawa also notes how there are plenty of other third-party options, to satisfy the "diverse needs" of consumers.
Other software publishers are also releasing titles in a variety of genres for the holiday season and onwards. What you see here is just a sampling, that includes titles that satisfy game fans and casual titles that can be enjoyed by many players together, revivals of past classics and indie titles created by developers with their own unique style, we have gathered a collection of various titles on Nintendo Switch to answer the diverse needs of consumers.

I can't believe that the game I am most excited about left this year (other than Star Wars on PS4) is Mario and Sonic at the Olympics... I never bite on those games, however for some reason this one has really got me intrigued!
I am not personally a Pokemon guy, however I hope it is amazing for all those fans out there as I know how long everyone has been waiting for a console release for the series!
Need to work my way through my backlog, but I’ll definitely pick up LM3 and Pokémon at some point. Pokémon is going to sell a crazy number of copies.
I been playing DQXI and the worst part of it is that it is taking me too long to finish! I can’t start Luigis mansion until I’m done with DQXI!
I have two weeks to finish DQ and Luigi.... because... Pokemon!
Where's the games for December? The biggest shopping month of the year and nothing?
Is there a Direct coming soon?
@nintendolie
Brain Age will be Nintendo's December game (at least in Japan).
I am surprised that they didn’t make a bigger shout out for Super Lucky’s Tale. After the e3 showing I thought Nintendo would continue to push that hard
@nintendolie Their December game was most likely originally Animal Crossing before it for delayed... They might not have a back up in the wings for it due to the short notice.
Out of these I'm only interested in Luigi and Olympic 2020. Sword and Shield have turned into a shipwreck, I already have Goose Game and nothing else is of interest that is on this list.
Curious to see if that Sakuna: Of Rice And Ruin game that looked really cool at E3 still arrives in 2019.
But saying that, since June I don’t think anyone can complain there hasn’t been anything to play on the Switch. In fact I already have a backlog to see me until Animal Crossing.
Don't think there's anymore Nintendo games left for me this year. Luigi's Mansion 3 was it. Maybe rent the Olympics game, but pretty low interest level for me there.
Pokemon is too far away, I need it NOW!
next year will be interesting as barely any major first party releases due to release yet, hopefully we will get a Mario 3D platformer, DK game and MK9. Can't seen BOTW2 or Metroid being ready until 2021/2022
@Dayton311
Is it the retro mode? That has me interested.
I had to look up Moon, sounds bonkers and cool. Look forward to the review.
@nintendolie i totally agree!!! I think there is a surprise in december. Metroid Prime Trilogy Remastered. Will be revealed at the Game awards 😉👍
Nintendo December Direct: Dear gamers, we know your backlog is crazy. We have put out a ton of good games. We are not putting out any games in December so that you can play all those games in your backlog. We will have new games in January. Thank you.
What are half those games in the second picture as they're in Japanese? Are they being released over here?
@Dayton311 No need to fell embarrassed. This Mario & Sonic does look like they've upped their game. I like casual mini-game titles, so the series has always appealed to me, but even I'll admit they have in the past often come off as low effort games relying on their big name characters to sell. Kind of like Mario Tennis. But this one looks GOOD! Maybe the fact that the Olympics are in Japan inspired them to try harder.
@nintendolie In recent years, publishers have avoided big releases in December and used the Sept to Nov window to push their big AAA xmas blockbusters... the theory being that its close enough to xmas to be considered fresh in the minds of consumers for purchase as presents and a game released in Dec has a shorter window for xmas sales plus is up against all the other releases in that block. Plus there's this weird 'black friday sales' effect that's shifted a lot of consumer spending to the last week in November in recent years across the West.
Last year, the big December console releases were Super Smash Bros and... Just Cause 4. One of those games did well... the other was given away free on xbox Game pass a few months later . As another mentioned above, Nintendo may have been planning Animal Crossing (a game that they think will be a big seller anyway with a long sales life and could make good use of that quiet pre Xmas window for publicity / online buzz) to be a Dec release like Smash Bros but it got delayed... I assume they think the mid November release of Pokemon will fill that gap.
@nicols spot on I know a lot of people have bought their main presents before december so you don't want to miss that market, also you hit another market - people like me who can't wait so will buy it in November play it and buy another game for Christmas, win win for Ninty!
I'll be needing RingFit right after Christmas.
>"other publishers"
>Australian debutants and one-man bands on the same row as Ubisoft
That's what you get, Monsieur Guillemot.
I need to finish three houses and dqxi but right now I'm playing witcher 3 and ringfit. I think I'm not buying anything for a few months with this backlog.
You only named one game that isn’t out already. Nothing to see here. This is really an article that just links to another non-article from yesterday. shrug
@Tharsman in the exact same boat. I’m nearing the end but my understanding is there is an end and even 20-30 hours to get to the “real end” after that. Sigh. Having fun though.
@nicols @Wilforce Animal Crossing: New Horizons was listed on Nintendo website as a launch title for May/Jun 2019 before they delayed it to Mar 2020.
@nintendolie
December isn’t a good time to be releasing games. You want your game on the shelves by the end of November pay day. That’s why FIFA, COD, Star Wars, Pokemon, Luigi Mansion, Just Dance, NFS, Death Stranding, Gears etc are out by then.
Smash last year is unusual for a huge release in December and that’s only because that was the earliest they could get it out.
@tseliot
This is a slide from a Nintendo presentation regarding their financials. The one yesterday was NL’s own list. Different things.
Major titles? I do not see Battletoads in these lists.
@Dayton311
Ohio?
@dugan i appreciate that! XD
@nintendolie could you provide the source on this? I've been tracking the game pretty close since the announcement and never saw those dates.
