Nintendo's Switch Pro Controller has certainly made a name for itself. Apart from being a great way to enjoy games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, over on Valve's platform Steam, it's become one of the most popular and most-used controllers for PC gaming platform.
In somewhat related news, the controller is now fully compatible with Android 10 devices. While this gamepad could technically already connect with an Android smartphone or tablet device beforehand, this new update rolled out by Google correctly maps the buttons.
To pair your Pro Controller with Android 10, all you have to do is click the sync button on the back of the controller (near the USB-C port) and then activate the Bluetooth function on your smart device. This will allow you to play games of all sorts, on your phone or tablet.
Will you be taking advantage of this update? Comment below.

Is it lagless?
looks at title
.....I feel like that should be the other way around, but oki.
I utterly love all 4 of my pre-controllers. Even if I concede that the D-pad isn't the best. (yes everyone screaming at me about that issue has pushed me to admit that it's less than stellar) It's my favorite modern controller by a lot!
But do any mobile games even support controller inputs? Most I've seen require 3rd party button mapping apps and stuff.
The title and article make no sense. Nothing has changed on the controller side, it's Android 10 that now has the correct button mappings for the pro controller.
The title should read: Android 10 now supports the pro controller.
@Heavyarms55 I know Evoland and a few others do. Most games that are "Full games ported to mobile" or are multi-platform like Terraria (Not 100% sure if Terraria does so maybe bad example) are likely to have controller support but they usually mention it in the description. Main thing I use a controller on my phone for is Retroarch.
I haven't seen any that didn't auto-map inputs correctly. Stuff I've played worked immediately
@Jtoomer Hmm, well that's neat. To be fair, I haven't messed around much with it. I didn't even realize retroarch was a thing on phones. I've only read about it with those little raspberry pie mini-computer things.
@Heavyarms55 It's usually either there or installed as Homebrew on basically any console from or after the GameCube era. The Android version is honestly pretty great. Retroarch's thing is a sort of "Run it on literally anything" mentality which makes it a little weird to set up at first.
Sorry for any confusion folks. I've changed the title.
Steam Link also already have native support for this, but also Wii U Pro, Xbox, PS etc.
Xbox One Gamepads officially have native support for Android in gamepad firmware.
Bluetooth versions, and not the oldest IR ones of course.
the main question I would like to ask is will my phone ever get android 10? especially as it has native dualshock 4 support too so I have two choices for controller use. I still use a ipega controller on android 9 for now but being able to use these 2 would be even better 😊
@Heavyarms55 there is so much choice for emulating on android, not just retroarch and yet people waste their time doing the same thing on a switch when android does the same thing without risking console ban or account ban, crazy stuff right?
Let me fix that for you:
Take your mobile gaming experience down a level
Most comfortable controller.
After recently playing Oceanhorn 2 and Shantae and the Seven Sirens on the iOS using a PS4 controller, I couldn’t help but to think Nintendo has a HUGE opportunity to bring in some serious cash if they deaded making a 3DS-like predecessor and just brought their games to mobile instead.
EVERYONE has a mobile phone these days and they could easily make a unique controller of their own that specifically supports mobile devices. If a mainline Pokémon, Animal Crossing or Splatoon game hit mobile, they’d rake in billions no doubt about it!
I'm able to connect it but it doesn't work very well. It's very buggy and with lots of lag.
The whole Switch concept could be generalized to phones and tablets. When Switch was just a rumour, I was kind of hoping that it would not even be an actual device, but Nintendo would team up with Apple and create something that allows you to attach Joy-Con like controllers to iPhones and iPads.
I say Apple because
1. It would probably be a nightmare to try and support all the million Androids. The more limited iPhone + iPad lineup is more realistic.
2. iOS devices have insane raw power, especially their CPUs. They are comparable to average to good laptops. And that power is not really tapped by anything today, really.
But I also have to admit that it would be somewhat clunky to always mess with your iPhone and controllers, and there may be an important incoming call while you play, etc.
When Android 17 & 18 come around, they'll just destroy the controller sits back and waits for someone to get that reference
@sikthvash Android 19 and 20 will just drain the battery on it
Brilliant. If this means I can use my joy cons all the better as I have a custom adapter that lets me hold both one handed.
Great. Notify me when the switch controller gets analogue triggers thx
@RazumikhinPG
Same Connected it to my Samsung Glaxy A6 and tried it with Sonic
There is so much lag its nigh on unplayable.
Maybe I'll have better luck with a Dual Shock 3
I can't imagine using anything other than Joy-Con. The updated ones are working fine and all other controllers feel weird now. I love them, hope they become compatible with AppleTV OS and iOS
Cant wait to try this on a few emulators on my phone
@Liam_Doolan thanks mate no big deal. I understood the title lol
I would probably rank the xbox 360 and xbox one controllers ahead of the pro controller. But not by much.
@Cartune "couldn’t help but to think Nintendo has a HUGE opportunity to bring in some serious cash if they deaded making a 3DS-like predecessor and just brought their games to mobile instead."
hasn't this been like proposed to death already?
And been disproven since Nintendo hasn't quite made hundreds of billions of dollars from mobile despite some good successes?
The mobile games market, especially on Android, adores pay-to-win models. These days, customisation options are the rage thanks to Fortnite etc. Then you really could pay to make Mario green like Luigi.
@jsty3105 Nintendo has never released anything mainline for mobile so you can’t really disprove it. But with the success from Pokémon Go and the more recent release of Mario Kart Tour, this should point to all the reason Nintendo could and SHOULD produce mainline quality games for mobile, it could easily be their most profitable business venture yet... If possible, I challenge you to play Oceanhorn 2 or/and Shantae and the Seven Sirens for iOS (using a Dualshock 4) just to see if your opinion differs. Because I thought nothing about this until I played those games specifically, it gave me a new perspective.
@Cartune the argument is both old and boring. There can be good mobile games but the market is very different.
Ppl also argued that Nintendo should just release their classic Mario games on mobile and make a ton of cash. Sonic certainly hasn't done the same for Sega. And neither has any classic property as far as I know.
The biggest problem remains the same, the lack of a dedicated controller. With touchscreen gaming, your experience will always be worse until someone invents a way to make fingers invisible
Unfortunately, my less-than-a-year-old phone is stuck on 8 because I don't buy a new one every damn time it comes out!
@jsty3105
Well, for the sake of your argument, I think your points are very shallow.
For one, Sonic/SEGA ain’t Mario/Nintendo now are they? And even still, although I don’t know any of the statistics, I can almost guarantee you SEGA’s mobile games have been profitable. I hate how you’re making it seem as if Nintendo would generate little to no money revenue from doing so.
And secondly, as I stated in my first post, Nintendo could easily make their own controller for mobile devices that could connect via Bluetooth.
I really don’t see a lose here and why naysayers beg to differ... Just thinking about it now, but, I think it would be pretty awesome if Nintendo made their Online VC content available via an app on mobile. That would actually give me a reason to care about it and would spark an interest in newcomers for sure!
as another user has asked, is it lagless? i've used the ps3 and ps4 controller connected via usb cable to my phone and it works but it stops the headphone port from producing sound as well as the tablet/phone.
i prob could bluetooth headphones it. also if using bluetooth with the controllers, there's way too much lag
Cool, when my phone ever gets the 10 update. Would also be cool to have this mapped on the nvidia shield but it's still on 8
Hell yes! I'll be all over this!
@Gwynbleidd I'm a glass-half-empty kind of girl.
A little off topic, but I was actually surprised to learn that my Pro Controller can sync to my fire stick 4K.
@xshinox
It isn't on my phone
Sonic lags like hell and is nigh on unplayable.
Your mileage may vary.
@sikthvash bro I know the reference from Android 17 and 18
The dragon ball z legacy of goku 2 game and the fight with cell games series
How the 17 and 18 destroyed that device that would disable them hahaha
@Silvain Dude, I've been waiting since Nov 2019 =0p
