To celebrate the return of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening after 26 years, Nintendo UK decided to hold a fan art competition recently where fans could submit something based on this rather unique title. This covered hand-drawn pictures, dioramas, and even cosplay.
In the above video, you can see all of the entries in this competition, which the Nintendo Life team helped judge. The winner, in the end, was Chris McAleer, with this fantastic entry linking the past with the present.
Chris takes home a Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Limited Edition bundle (supplied by Nintendo UK). And the two runners-up both receive a standard copy of Link's Awakening for Switch. The best entries are also featured on The Legend of Zelda Facebook page, Nintendo UK’s Twitter account, and the Nintendo UK Instagram account.
What do you think of the winning entry? Did any of the other ones stand out in the video above? Leave a comment below.

The winning entry is awesome but I think there were a few other entries in the video I liked better.
Mine wasn't even shown in the video
Congrats too the winner but you guys definitely dropped the ball on this one. Some of those other entries were far better
@Matthew010 same with me .But looking at mine now it never stood a chance against some of the amazing entry’s people have made.
@Hissscratch139 I'm biased but I think mine was pretty good - not better than most of them, but better than some.
I really like the one at 6:44 due to my bias for that particular Japanese art - however, I think the winner is an excellent choice.
Some incredible entries. The winner is a good choice from a conceptual point of view - art is subjective after all; but boy that must have been tough to sift through and make a decision!
There was an art contest? Oh well, it was UK only anyway.
I think there should've been more prizes given to more people
We are all winners.
@prince-jay I watched the video and failed to see the ones that were 'far better'. There were a lot of really great entries, including the winner. It's all subjective at the end of the day so nobody 'dropped the ball' just because it's not your personal favourite.
@Matthew010 It wasn't even shown in your comment!
@nesrocks I don't like posting pictures in the comments - I can if you want me to!
@Matthew010 You can always post a link to it. Please do!
Some great art, but I wish the artist was tagged in every image. I want to see more from some of the artist
Oh wow! You guys must have had an incredibly difficult time choosing with so many talented artists.
The picture at 2:13 is AMAZING!
@nesrocks I posted it in this thread: https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/general_discussion/nintendolife_artists?start=800#reply-809
@Matthew010 That's adorable hehe, the gameboy looks particularly nice! The HUD seems to have been done with pen while the "game" looks like pencil. That gave a depth feel to it. One tip on photography: have the light coming from behind you instead of from behind the subject. It should look a lot better that way
@nesrocks Thanks
I'll try that tip next time - my photography needs to improve!
Even some in the twitter replies are better. Not saying that the winning entry is not great but I really wonder why it's chosen.
the fact that you had so much of response and you picked the basic cookie butter shows how truly you are disconnected from expression and art and youre nothing but a tabloid IGN type website. i disagree with youre choosing and could of done so much better.
@Matthew010 That's awesome!
Wow good job everyone, such beautiful pieces of art 👌
As for the winning entry, I liked the concept of looking outside the Gameboy screen.
2.11 gets my vote
Awesome! I am happy to see someone is doing something positive with their lives.
@NintendoJunkie Thanks!
Awesome stuff! So much talent.
Hi, I know I’m a couple of months late for this but I’ve only just found it and I think this is important.
Considering this is suppose to be a video of all the entries to the fan art competition, I’m slightly shocked to see that my piece of artwork isn’t up there, even though I entered it a few weeks before closing date and spent a good three days completing it.
I’d just like a good explanation as to why my art hasn’t been showcased, since it can’t be because it was hand drawn, because other hand drawn pieces are shown in the video.
Hope I can get some kind of reason to this even though I’m a few months late.
