One thing to consider before the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening on the Switch later this month, is whether or not you'll be picking up the new amiibo alongside the game. This toy-like Link amiibo comes with a very special feature that allows you to add Shadow Link to your own custom-made Chamber Dungeon.
While we first found out about Shadow Link during the Treehouse Direct at E3 2019, Nintendo's European Twitter account has now shared a quick look at what it's like to do battle against this evil version of Link in the Chamber Dungeon. If you decide to use this amiibo yourself, be prepared for the shadow version of Link to chase you through multiple rooms. If you beat him, though, you'll receive a lot of rupees. See him in action below:
If you're curious to know more about the Chamber Dungeon, it's a new building in the Switch version of Link's Awakening that actually replaces the original Camera Shop in Tal Tal Heights (first featured in Link's Awakening DX). The place where you could once go to print out photos on the Game Boy Printer accessory is now a custom dungeon creator run by Dampé, who was the graveyard keeper in the 1998 Nintendo 64 game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Once again, the Link amiibo for Link's Awakening on the Switch will be released on 20th September.
Tell us down in the comments if you'll be adding him to your amiibo collection and if you're looking forward to trying out the new Chamber Dungeon feature.

I preordered this and the dreamers edition, can't wait!
Would if been so fun and creepy to have shadow link follow you through the maps.... as in You see him run from the door where you came from.
I wonder if he will be normal speed, fast and slow speed? Add some variety
But this should be fun nonetheless
Oh, I thought there was going to be a Shadow Link amiibo. Anyways, looks like it could be a fun mode/addition.
I don't understand why they are still locking content behind amiibos, I am honestly surprised that they are still a thing.
Awww! He looks sooooo cute!
No evil laugh like Shadow Mario? Pre-order cancelled! /S
Yea this is the same Info i plagiarized from Walmart GameCenter magazine in my post in the The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening forum a month ago.
I understand not wanting content locked behind a piece of plastic, but I'm happy to see that Nintendo is still supporting amiibo. I've had a lot of fun collecting them. I hope we continue to see more, but there should be a way to unlock the content in game without amiibo. Not everyone wants to collect them.
I'm surprised Nintendo never made a game centered around amiibo. It could have been FTP with the amiibo unlocking characters and and content. It would have been a FTP game I could get behind, as you actually get something of value for your money.
Yep, I'm getting this
@JayJ I do think there’s ways they could make everyone (or more people) happy. For example make Shadow Link an unlock for beating something, the game or some challenge, but available instantly for the Amiibo owners.
@HexagonSun
They did on the DS it was one of those Mario vs DK games I think. Each character had a world based on them and the amiibos would unlock the world.
Got the dreamer edition and the amiibo preordered
Do any of the other link amiibo's work in the game?
It's been unavailable on Amazon since I first checked, retailers around here don't even have it listed at all. Two shops I've never heard of seem to have them but for 20+. So, probably not.
Can’t wait for that Amiibo. It will be the perfect addition to my Amiibo collection.
@Smigit Yeah I think that would have been much better.
@Smigit @JayJ Well for me I think it gives more value to the amiibo if it's exclusive to the amiibo owner. Where as in Mario Odyssey it's cool to have the outfits in the beginning of the game but once you see that you didn't even need the amiibo to unlock the outfits, and that you would eventually unlock them it seems kind of pointless to even own the amiibo.. But hey, we all have opinions right?
That's pretty cool. So is the game gonna have a "Zelda Maker Lite" feature?
I have the Amiibo on pre-order but don't really care About the game.
If the world was more like the marketing art it would have been amazing.
@theiRiS I agree! When I got Mario Odyssey, I excitedly used all my amiibo to get costumes, only to feel like I cheated by unlocking them early (and without paying coins!). I think having certain content locked behind amiibo adds to their value, and makes them special (like the amiibo gear for Splatoon, or the amiibo Knight in Shovel Knight).
Edit: And having FPs in Smash is cool, too.
@theiRiS Fair enough. As the owner of 100+ Amiibo personally I don’t need exclusive DLC to justify them. Given the number of Amiibo I have it’s not like I’m missing content from games due to Amiibo exclusivity, but I can see that others are. The other issue is in 24 or 36 months time certain Amiibo become hard to find via first party channels so unlocking that content becomes expensive and/or difficult. There’s some Amiibo that are just prohibitively difficult to track down now if you didn’t get them at launch. For example the alternative colour Splatoon 1 set.
I think there’s a better balance to be honest than a permanent lock to a physical toy, or at least make the content purchasable for $5 or similar for the people going digital only. I think fast tracking content ect is a good middle ground. The Switch for many a portable system and Amiibo aren’t great for taking on the road either.
Not that I’m too upset, I’ll be getting this Amiibo also, just think there’s better ways to make DLC available or that they could have alternative options. I do think it’s a bit anti consumer just like having store specific DLC is where different retailers get different content, meaning the only way to get everything is to buy multiple copies.
I can see why some would like the Amiibo to unlock content however and do respect that view.
@Dev893
Omg! Sounds like my first boyfriend!
Legend of Zelda...NEMESIS!!!
I really don't get this create a dungeon mode, you make it for yourself to play and only from existing rooms you've already beaten, so you already know the exact layout before you start. Then once again locking content behind amiibo, granted it's fairly inconsequential but you should still be able to unlock that function in the game
Do we know if any Link amiibo will work? Or is it just the new one?
At last some amiibo with meaningful use, on Switch it is.
Too bad the amiibo itself was sold out the minute preorders opened...
"Staaaaaaaaars" ... wait, wrong game
@Xelha This content is optional though and doesn't harm the main game in any way. After all you could still just play the game without ever fighting Shadow Link. Unless earning rupees is the problem, you could basically just do that in the main game by cutting grass and throwing pots.
@retro_player_22
In the original game, players could play the crane game and earn all the rupees they could possibly need before even entering the first dungeon, including buying the shovel and the bow, which cost 200 and 980 rupees respectively.
The crane game was incredibly easy to master in the original game, we'll see if that still holds true for this remake.
Holy crap. Nintendo actually telling us what the amiibo does BEFORE the game releases, while still a chance of actually getting one.
@MasterJay what's the dreamer edition?
@JayJ I don't see anything wrong with the amiibo practice right now. They've increased stock considerably and the functionality is a nice touch which never really add or subtract any essential content to the games. I would be more upset if the Link amiibo was limited in supply but it seems to be pretty accessible wherever you look. I know Amazon is out but Best Buy has them still in stock at the moment.
I wonder if there going to update breath of the wild where your able to use the amiibo.
@ryobi85 na's version of the limited edition
So, scanning the new Link's Awakening amiibo unlocks access to the exclusive enemy 'Shadow Link' who can be used in the new 'dungeon maker'. I think they struck the right balance. The new Link amiibo does something that resembles Link himself, but it's not used for the main game at all. It adds just a small but cool extra to the maker part of the game.
It's like the exclusive Giant Mushroom in Super Mario Maker that you only get with Mario's Anniversary 8-Bit amiibo.
Do we know what other Zelda amiibo or amiibo in general do in this game? There's always been a balanced pattern for that since Hyrule Warriors and Breath of the Wild.
Can I scan it without taking it out of it's box?
