It would be really cool if Mother 3 was localized for Mother’s 30th anniversary.

If Nintendo did finally localize Mother 3, what would replace this meme of a complaint?

Not quite how we may have wished for the anniversary to be marked. They must be aware of how much love fans have for this series. Surely there has to be some kind of Mother related action on the Switch at some point.

Just kidding. This honestly made my day. It's really nice that they're actually doing something like this for the series. Every little bit counts.

They’ll do a spirit event but they won’t port Mother 3 XD

Congrats to Mother/Earthbound. I still want Mother 3 localized. Maybe someday, or never.

I still don't know if Earthbound Beginnings' translation for Wii U Virtual Console is available as a rom for the NES Mini -there is a rom, but I suspect it's the fan-translated one.

But if it got released on Switch I'd buy it. I won't buy it on Wii U because of NES poor emulation there.

All joking aside, is there any chance at all of Mother 3 being announced for the West during the anniversary celebration?

@Markiemania95 That an extremely odd choice for a smash character. I get the appeal for Earthbound fans (arguably my favorite game ever made). However, I really don't see him getting in. I've been arguing for Geno but he's highly fan requested. Mother has received absolutely no love at all, which I think hurts Porky.

Let me say though, he would be a very interesting character! We can all hope right!

And this confirms Nintendo very much hasn't forgotten this series. How bittersweet it is for the west knowing that Mother 3 exist, but we can only celebrate 2/3 the series? Given the track record, I won't hold my breath, but I'd love to believe that Mother 3 would appear in some fashion for the 30th anniversary this year, even with regards to the super surprise last gen of Earthbound Beginnings.

Look closely at the backgrounds for that image. All of them appear somewhere in Smash, wether it be a stage or in Magicant’s background...

...except for these flowers, which are being used to help represent Mother 3.

Now, Nintendo has whipped up special backgrounds for spirit promo pics in the past. But isn’t it weird that this is so small and hidden?

...which leads me to believe that this is a big ‘ol nothing. But it’s still a little weird, and I thought it was worth pointing out. (Then again, Mother/EarthBound is a little weird. 😅)

@KingBowser86 Although apparently, the sprite used in the Spirit is that of when it’s empty - meaning Porky isn’t inside it.

@Chunkboi79 It’s definitely an odd choice compared to what we’ve had so far, but as a boss in Brawl and a trophy in Smash 4, I find it equally strange that other than New Pork City being named after him, he has no representation in Ultimate whatsoever. Rayquaza became a stage hazard, Ridley became playable, Petey became a Final Smash, even Galleom returned as a boss - choosing to feature characters like EVE, Buzz Buzz, Master Belch and Ness’ Father as Spirits over Porky just doesn’t seem right to me.

@MH4 The clouds are the same ones from Tortimer Island sadly. But I have no idea where the Sunflowers are from.

I’ve always speculated that Porky could potentially be DLC. However, if they added him, it would be 81 characters instead of the super clean final total of 80 (74 in the base game, one bonus DLC in the Plant, and 5 currently unrepresented franchises in the Fighters Pass).

He just seems like such an odd character to ignore! He’s so important to the franchise, and his absence makes no sense.

The fact that Piranha Plant wasn’t in the base game as a spirit (the Nipper Plant spirit evolves into the Petey Piranha spirit to accommodate for Piranha Plant’s absence) leads towards the Porky thing’s credibility. I hope it’s true.

I actually had a dream last night after seeing this, that they added Earthbound Beginnings to the NES service as a surprise along with this. Hope it comes true.

I'd love to have Porky as a character as we don't have a spiderbot fighter yet. We don't have an EarthBound villain yet. Porky is neither in spirits, costumes, Assist Trophies, or Final Smashes. Giygas as a Final Smash sounds incredible as well as more fantastic music and a crazy stage. But apparently, you can see Porky in the background of New Pork City, so maybe that's deconfirming him?

Anyway, happy 30th Anniversary! Time to play through EarthBound again.

It's nice to see any acknowledgement of the Mother series from Nintendo. I'll happily support any release in the west, but I was done waiting for an official release of Mother 3 a long time ago. I'll stick with my reproduction cartridge of Mother 3 until Nintendo decides to grace us with an official port. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't release Earthbound Beginnings on the Switch NES app.

@Markiemania95 You make an excellent point, I hope he does get in. It would really spark some interest in the Earthbound/Mother series.

Personally I really would like to see Geralt of Rivia get into smash, since his game is coming to switch I think he could really shake things up. I would also like to see the hunter from monster hunter get in. I love talking about who potentially could get in smash lol
