There's already a large number of characters in the game, and there'll be even more if this is true. In saying this, there are no guarantees. Spyro was previously confirmed for CTR last month alongside multiple other characters. For more information regarding the game's most recent update, check out our previous post.
What do you think about this list? Have you been enjoying CTR since it was released on the Switch? Leave a comment below.

Koala Kong, Komodo Moe and N. Brio were suppose to be in a previous data mine.
I hope at least Bianca gets added to the Spyro roster.
@PLATINUM7 I really hope that's true cause where this game is already insane with its fan service, those 3 characters are really the only missing elements from the original trilogy. Overall still adore this game and looking forward to these
Where's Mario?
@N8tiveT3ch Missing. Luigi has to find.
Baby Crash... is this a justified jab to Nintendo?
Call me when Waluigi is playable.
(I wish I could be seriously but I'm not.)
The support for this game is ridiculous. Way better than any Mario Kart game
This is absolutely amazing support, Team Sonic Racing should be talking notes.
Now that is what I call big fanservice right there. I wonder why Sega didn't use this chance with Team Sonic Racing. I know that it is a budget title, but it is not like Sega didn't have the money for this. They are still pretty rich and I do not understand why they do not use the money for pretty much their biggest mascot character.
They specifically said that they wanted to get rid of all the other Sega characters and guest characters so that they can create a big love letter to the Sonic franchise. But they really didn't even scratch the serves with it.
I really do not get it. This was their chance to finally use some of the forgotten Sonic characters. Imagine what weird characters we would have gotten with Team Sonic Racing if they would have gone the same route like CTR. We could have gotten characters like...
etc.
But no. They just stuck with the basic characters. Only Zavok and the Chaos were kinda a surprise.
Nina is gonna be my main once she comes out, but for now, Ripper Roo and Pinstripe!
@RareFan The trade-off between "everything on the cart" and "post-launch support". SEGA was very clear about their "everything on the cart" approach for Team Sonic Racing meanwhile CTR has delved very deeply into post-launch support. Both games have a similar amount of "on the cart" content.
I'd rather have post-launch support to be honest.
i dont have the game, but i want shovel knight!!! he is everywhere, so why not?
Not a big fan of this data mining business for me they are just ruining nice surprises. When they finally announce things it’s no longer a treat like it should be.
I used to rock Nina in CTTR so that would be cool. Not fussed for baby versions, though, never use them in MK8DX. Also, Spyro was in Nitro Kart GBA so that makes sense.
Looks like the format will be
5 characters per season looking at list... it’s means we are a few short on the last season.
This season has five and sypro has five so I think they’ll stick to that...
The support for this game from Beenox is amazing!... although getting very suspicious as to why Activision is being so nice... maybe we all sold our souls in their 42 page licence agreement.
Granted we don't know if ALL these characters will be unlocked for free as part of the Grand Prix seasons, but honestly if this was offered as paid DLC packs, similarly to Mario Kart 8's packs 1 & 2 back on WiiU, I would bite.
Being selfish, I am hoping that's not the full list of Spyro characters. Would be cool to have Moneybags, Sparx, Elora and Bianca in CTR too.
@EasyDaRon It's support, regardless of whether the content is just superficial or not. It helps flesh out the roster, lower the chance of multiple of the same character in a race and generally just let people have a bit more choice. What's wrong with that?
I also don't see your point on needing motivation to play a game. If I've done everything in a game I've done everything, I can't just sit there playing through the same old content over and over with nothing to actually work towards or achieve. Going around the same tracks over and over and over with nothing to actually gain aside from occasionally getting a slightly faster lap time sounds incredibly boring to me...And to everybody really, hence why we play multiple different games and stop playing old ones, because we've done the game and even if we enjoy it there's nothing left to really do.
Same reason I can't enjoy something like Minecraft or multiplayer games with no sort of progression: after the initial x amount of hours just playing with the mechanics, what am I actually working towards? What's the point? Why am I just doing the same thing over and over again? Is it to improve at the game for the sake of improving at the game? In that case, there's far better and more productive things I could be doing with my time than being a wannabe MLG.
I mean, you may be able to pointlessly do the same thing over and over without purpose, but some of us like a goal even if we like the game. That doesn't make you or us wrong.
Is this as good as MK8 ?
@EasyDaRon There's nothing superficial about it, new content is new content. No one said they needed this constant drip of content to stay interested in the game, it's just an amazing game that just so happens to be getting new content cause Beenox are cool dudes. Hell, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe hasn't gotten any substantial content added since launch, but people are still interested cause it's just fun. This free content is just a nice bonus along with some quality of life changes, there's absolutely zero downside.
@Petriebird It's hard to say, they're fundamentally very different. Mario Kart is easier to get into and is less complex so it's a better causal game to chill with. CTR has a lot more depth, is far less luck based and has the potential to be a lot more fun, but it'll take a bit to get the hang of and it's not great with friends if they're new to the game. I prefer CTR, but it really comes down to preference. Worth keeping in mind it's 20 bucks less though.
@WarioIsTopTier mmm ... thx for that comparison I love mk8 but I think I might enjoy this too for different reasons. Might give it a try when I get the funds. In the meantime busy with Rocket League another addictive car game!
Even Rilla Roo? Wow
I noticed most commenters forgot to read the word "pontentional". Having said that, I really hope Von Clutch, Nina Cortex and Pasadena will join. That would probably make me buy the game.
@EasyDaRon And as I said, that's fine for you. As said, many get bored with nothing there to work towards or nothing new to see.
I also played a lot of Mario Kart online but once I had unlocked everything I didn't see the point, aside from the fact I was starting to tire of it even before I had unlocked everything. I had seen the content countless times and nothing new was going to happen other than a change in ranking I didn't personally care about. Whilst you might be fine donig the same thing over and over, I was ready to pick up something new and fresh with content I hadn't seen yet. Even a new character being added to Mario Kart would have extended the gameplay by at least one more cup since I would have been curious to see all their new animations.
Besides, unless the only game you play is Mario Kart you don't exactly defeat my point. If what you say is true, you should be happy with that being the one and only game you play given it's a fun game, so why wouldn't you want to just play that?
Not only is CTTR even getting some love, but they're making NPCs from that game playable. And Rilla Roo from Crash Bash?! Incredible.
If Rilla Roo isn't true, holy effing sheet will I be disappointed.
@EasyDaRon it's still be played for years to come. I mean just look at the original CTR. It still gets played and praises to this day. This is just icing on the already enourmous cake. A free brand new track, 5 free new characters, plus new karts and paint jobs every month is a lot. There's already a bunch of content to begin with.
A fully animated and voiced story mode. 20+ characters. Full Kart customizations with paint jobs, decals, stickers, bodies, and decals.
Besides Mario Tennis Aces did the exact same thing but in a MUCH worse way.
Free DLC from Activision is unexpected, but very cool.
@KryptoniteKrunch Well in fairness Activision have very little to do with this game. They own Crash, but both N.Sane Trilogy and this were outsourced. Both devs seem real cool too.
Great post launch content, the new track they added is a welcome addition. More characters going forwards will help further. Really enjoying this....
The downside to this might be that it is impossible to unlock everything, since you only get a handfull of coins after every race (and you need a insane amount to unlock everything). That being said, I might focus mostly on the characters and just ignore the paintjobs, wheels, etc.
