Like the coolest kid on the playground giving you a glimpse of their shiny Charizard Pokémon card, we've snook around Nintendo's E3 show floor, grabbed some Zelda: Link's Awakening gameplay footage, and decided to share it with you lovely lot. Aren't we just the bestest?
You can check it out yourself in the video above. We've got around 10 minutes of footage in total, showing off Link waking up in his room, setting off on his mighty adventure, playing minigames, and even exploring a dungeon. We're loving the quirky art style throughout.
If you missed the news, an adorable amiibo has been revealed which is based on Link's cutesy design, and Europe and North America are also set to receive super-lovely Limited Editions. Make sure to check those out if you haven't already.
Are you liking what you're seeing here? Is this a must-buy for you this September? Let us know with a comment below.

Special limited edition with gameboy thing for me please you lovely people! Day one.
This Link.. I love him.
Please sir i want some more.
Edit: Does anyone under 50 actually get this quote?
I must have that game
I am hoping for re-release of the Zelda titles that I never had the chance to play because I do not own the consoles - Skyward Sword, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.
This should have been a 3ds game not switch.
I'm really digging the design. The game looks fantastic.
I love the look of this, but the directional controls are clearly digital - Link can only walk in 8 directions, making it look rather juddery. What happened to the silky smoothness of A Link Between Worlds?
the sound mixing seems a bit off, like the sound effects are too loud for that music
Why is Link so cute??
@Ryu_Niiyama Because he's smol
I love this game! Wish it were out now. September is going to be crowded for switch.
Cannot wait for this. So dang adorable.
Super adorable. This is how you modernize an older game but still keep the fans of the old zelda gameplay happy.
I've gotta say, I think the visual style of this remake is flat-out gorgeous. I'd love to see A Link to the Past re-created to look like this.
@USWITCH64,
The 3DS would not run it fella.
This game looks amazing,and like others have said A link to the past with this visual style would be great too.
I wasn't fully sold on the art style when this game was revealed a few months ago, but it's definitely grown on me. The aesthetics definitely fit this game well.
@Bunston Even worse, as it is right now, you can only control Link with the stick. D-Pad does nothing. Hopefully this will be added in later.
I think my biggest impression while trying this game out was exclaiming “They made the crane game harder!” after three attempts of getting the Yoshi doll and the demonstrator laughing in agreement.
Anyone else mad that they didn't try stealing from the shopkeeper? I want to know if they keep in the instant death from stealing from him, and the permanent name change on your file so that every character calls you "Thief".
Loving what they've done with the soundtrack.
This does feel like it could had been done on 3DS, but that's old hack now, Switch is king!
Amazing. So adorable, so cute, so loveable and charming.
Instant buy.
YAHOO! lady is back, I guess Yahoo! is irrelevant now but somehow wasn't in 2011?
Really enjoyed the video, Link's Awakening is looking great and the sound was nice too.
I do hope you have more than two slots to assign items to though. This would mean you're constantly having to pause the game and switch out items like you did in the original all those years ago. As the Gameboy only had A and B this was understandable but hope they've fixed it now.
By the way did anyone else notice the empty bottle hiding at the bottom of the river when Link was fishing?
@Zuljaras I think lots of us are hoping for the re-releases (as well as Metroid Prime Trilogy) but Nintendo haven't come up with the goodies yet
@wazlon Only two button slots, but you don’t have to assign your sword and shield to them, they get their own buttons. Works just like ALBW.
Could do without Funko POP Link.
@Yoshi Thanks, I hadn't noticed that, what a relief.
Breath of the Wild didn't have to load screen interior areas. Why does this (far less complex) game?
@patbacknitro18
I would bet they will not include this. It is happy-face appearances-are-everything time now.
Gameplay feels too slow in general, like, almost everything should be sped up by at least 50%. Especially the close combat with normal basic enemies.
I wish they would give an option to toughen the game up for veteran Zelda players (basically everyone). Perhaps more difficult boss battles? More standard enemies roaming around?
@sketchturner Because it's trying to capture the feel of the original game.
@gamekill No offense but I beg to god you're wrong. Links Awakening had a ton of fun content in it, from the adult jokes to being murdered and punished for stealing. Not to mention the story of this game is DARK, like way darker than Majoras Mask. Without spoiling any plot twists, this is the only Zelda game where Link isn't the hero. His quest to save the world is one that will doom everyone. Which I really hope they don't try and water down the story. I hope they keep it as true to the original so that people can have that big WTF moment when the second to last boss reveals the big twist.
@USWITCH64 3DS has had its glory during the Wii U era, time for Switch to take its place. It's dead, Jim.
It is so much worse then I originally feared. The Nintendo tax is in full force here. I was expecting $30-40 and we are getting Nintendo-ed. $60 retail damn I hated Nintendo for treating us like a purse of money that they steal from constantly.
Looks really cute and fun, buuuuttt... I hope they tweak the speed a little bit or something it looks reallllly slow
@gamekill
It appears they are setting the speed based on the characters perceived ability to move. He appears to be a bit wobbly and the legs are shorter.
@bound4earth
The price is a bit high I thought as well. I am still going to get the game but I will have to shelve something else I was going to buy for now. Of the Zelda games it is one of my favorites already especially with a little side scrolling action in there.
Original was actually first game that i asked help for Nintendo Finland phone help service back when that was a thing excellent game even back then :'D
@Zidentia
I get what you are saying but.. Are they trying to make it realistic instead of fun to play? That is a problem usually. What about the sprite characters on the old Zelda games (or any other good game really).. they should have been moving at 1/3 their speed for that added sense of "getting down to Earth"..? I am not being sarcastic, it is hard to write on the interwebz. Also Mario should jump at knee high like any real fat italian plumber.
@gamekill
I have seen other games use this type of graphic and it is indeed a tool to match game speed with the perceived physical mass of the character. I was not an initial fan of this but the more I see the more I like the direction they took with it.
@Zidentia
Thanks for the explanation. I guess I have to wait and try the game myself (as in any game tbh)
@USWITCH64 Why a 3ds game? It looks amazing on the Switch. It fits perfectly on it.
