Japanese video game company Atlus – responsible for the recent 3DS title, Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth – has published its financial statement for the previous fiscal year, which began on 1st April 2018 and ended on 31st March 2019.
According to a translation of the report over on Persona Central, the company experienced a 904.1 million yen loss (approx $8.39 million USD). As bad as this may sound, Atlus clarified these losses were tied to "amortization of business rights" – resulting in repayments every fiscal period, after the company's transfer from Index to Sega Dream (now Atlus) six years ago.
On a more positive note, Atlus "pleasantly" exceeded its sales target for the previous fiscal year, experienced strong packaged game sales and is said to have greatly contributed to the financial performance of Sega Sammy. Alongside Persona Q2, it released titles such as Etrian Odyssey Nexus, Catherine: Full Body and Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight during this period. Performance overseas also improved – with the company revealing it surpassed sales prospects in Europe, Asia and the United States.
The company's balance sheet as of 31st March 2019 indicates an equity ratio of 90.5% and a current ratio of 592.0% – reinforcing its positive financial state. Looking ahead, Atlus intends to continue developing games that will satisfy its fans and contribute to the group's overall financial performance.

I like Atlus. Give me all their games portable. I'd buy them.
I bet if they put some games on the Switch, they might make some money. Just a thought.
Port P5 to the switch to earn some more!
Having a blast with Q2
@LunarFlame17 they are. Smtv is still going to switch. And I bet the next etrian will also go on switch.
It's great to see atlus happy with the sales of all those games. Can't wait to see p5 royal help boost these sales up too.
Bring back Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE and you'll make profit. That game had no chance to capture an audience on Wii U. Come on...
Persona 5 on switch now.
Cool. They'd make even more money if they actually put more resources into developing games for the Switch.
did it publish how many copies q2 sold?
God for them though honestly i cant think of any Atlus game i actually liked.
I'm still waiting for all of Vanillaware's games to be ported to Switch, Atlus. Dragon's Crown, Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir, Muramasa: Rebirth, etc. What's taking so long?
Well you should have ported over Persona 5 or at the least 4 and then you would of made a profit of several million. Sounds like you made a bad/dumb business decision.
I am sincerely happy for them. I love Atlus. I have so many of their 3DS games and put hundreds of hours into Etrian Odyssey Untold 2 - still my most-played game on record.
Now start working on Switch games, pretty please?
@Judal27 We’ll see. SMTV was announced a long time ago. I’m sure it’s still coming, but how much longer do we have to wait? I hope we look back at the end of the Switch’s lifecycle and are thrilled about the tremendous support Atlus has given it, but right now? It’s been over two years, and nothing. To say I’m concerned about Atlus is putting it lightly.
@Ralizah
Cool. They'd make even more money if they actually put more resources into developing games for the Switch
The fact as many people downvoted you as upvoted, I think it's clear the fanboys dont want to see Atlus support Switch. Probably had a heart attack seeing Persona 5 Scramble announced. They better gird up their loins, cause Sega said they're basically going full multiplatform moving forward to counter their disappointing revenue shortfall.
@JR150 This is legit. They NEED to release it so I can buy it properly!
Persona series on Switch would have sorted out the difference
Morons - I’m sure P5S will bring in the big bucks for them lol
@JR150
It was so good.
It's funny how many commenters here either didn't actually read the article, or don't understand the content.
@LunarFlame17 they have a few games on the switch or on the way, including Shin Megami Tensei V which is exclusive
@Dpullam @crudfish
Agreed. TMSFE was such a good game. It'd ease the wait for SMTV for sure. Just imagine if it was dubbed in English.
@JR150 yeah, imagine a English dubbed game in TOKYO. That's almost as bad as the English dubbed Yakuza games.
Serves them right for not putting P5 on Switch. This is karma coming back to what’s due.
@HumanDog I know! Like, in my copy of Brothers Karamazov, the characters all speak in English even though the characters are in Russia, not England and therefore should be speaking Russian. Totally killed my immersion.
Still waiting for Shin Megami Tensei 5...
Would really love a Knights in the Nightmare Switch port! Maybe even a modest sequel if it sold well.
You know how Atlus could make more money.
If they actually made most of their games multi-platform instead of almost none of them.
The entire point of porting games is to make money off of your existing work and not have to sell something made completely from scratch.
In the past year I've bought Radient Historia and SMT Strange Journey for 3ds, and Persona 5 for PS4. I like Atlus. They make good games.
@JaxonH Sega has stated that they won't interfere with Atlus.
Atlus reminds me of pre Switch Nintendo in a lot of ways. They publish games of the highest quality, but you gotta wade through a good bit of outdated business practices and terrible communication with fans to get to them 😂
@Ralizah @JaxonH Don't worry, I helped you both balance a bit more in the right direction lol.
Gimme P4G on any platform that isn't the Vita please
@JaxonH SAYS "I think it's clear the fanboys dont want to see Atlus support Switch"
REPLY: I am a Nintendo fan for many decades and I have not seen any fanboy claiming what you write. You are clearly making up this claim. Gamers, fanboys or not, are longing for great games to play on their consoles. And that is all.
I'm looking forward to SMT V on the switch. Hopefully we get some news soon.
I think some didn't actually read the article.
Glad their package games are growing. The fact they pointed out Steam and the PC market as a point of growth is fantastic!
I cant wait for 13 Sentinels
@Cosats He and others are getting downvoted so someone, "fanboy" or not, is doing this as they don't want to see more Atlus games on Nintendo platforms.
Personally hoping for a new Trauma Centre, which I'm surprised no one has mentioned yet...but I doubt that is happening. Also a fan of SMT, Growlanser and Radiant Historia. Never played Etrian Odyssey despite having two 3DSes.
why not just release all the persona games on the switch, just not the persona Q games.
@Cosats
You don’t know what you’re talking about guy. I never claimed anybody said anything. I was commenting on the fact people were massively down voting Ralizah for hoping they make games for Switch.
Who downvotes such a thing? I’ll tell you who. People who don’t want them to bring games to Switch. And who doesn’t want them to bring games to Switch? I’ll tell you who. The fanboys who pride their egos on how many exclusive titles they can boast, and feel a knot in their stomach every time one of those games comes to Switch. When a person downvotes a post saying “I want Atlus support on Switch”, they are quite literally proclaiming their fanboyism, albeit anonymously.
You won’t hear people say it. Nobody comes out and says they’re an insecure, jealous person who gets upset seeing “their games” go to other systems (save perhaps young kids who don’t realize how bad a look it is). You see it in their behavior.
@Mr_Persona I’m guessing it must be some kind of exclusivity deal that they have with PlayStation. It’s definitely not related to the power of the Switch because P5 isn’t really graphically intense at all. I would imagine it running basically the same.
I got one game of them, Snowboard Kids N64!
@iLikeUrAttitude I'm surprised we haven't heard anything about SMT5, yet. It's been a few years, hasn't it? I really liked SMT4, but I haven't gotten to Apocalypse, yet.
@NotTelevision It sucks but I think in general Nintendo is treated as the secondary system by most including developers. Seriously, most games could come to the Switch...but most won't. Cartridges being expensive is part of the problem. Still, we're not even getting all that many X360 and PS3 ports. Basically, anything under 16GB should not be a problem to port.
But how many people want to play old games?
Edit: Nintendo doesn't do the multi-disc/multi-cartridge thing...which is a shame really. Some games today are nearly 100GB in size. If somehow 64GB cartridges can come out cheap enough, we might get more modern games. Till then it isn't happening.
@eaglebob345 Game started development around 2017. They only had enough to show a mockup for the Switch.
I need a mischief makers port or remake. Does anyone remember this classic on the N64. One of my favorite games.... shake shake shake
Snowboard kids N64 remake would be a dream come true
Give me Persona 5 on Switch and you have my money! I just cant play long RPGs on my Ps4 anymore as the tv in most cases is taken
P3, 4 & 5, Catherine FB etc for Switch. Plenty of titles that could take in plenty of cash. I know you would get mine. Also, get some SMTV released.
Atlus would be doing a lot better if their games were multiplatform...
And I don't just mean Persona 5 on Switch. All of their games (including the upcoming SMTV) should be on all relevant hardware (PS4/NSW/PC/XBO/PS5/Scarlett, etc).
It's not like they make graphically-intensive games that push technological boundaries - they are all fairly linear anime turn-based RPGs.
@JaxonH that's not what it says at all. They're saying atlus would make money if they actually spent resources on making games for the switch almost as if implying they aren't or won't. 2 of their 3 long running franchises are prominent on Nintendo. It's almost certain there will be another Etrian game and that it will be on switch as an exclusive along with smtv. It makes me wonder how anyone can believe atlus isn't supporting Nintendo enough and that they should start using resources on switch as if they weren't.
Then there's some comments acting as though they're struggling (when it literally says sales for their recent games exceeded goals) and some claiming they deserve to struggle and for what? Because they didn't port over 1 game? This just paints switch owners in a bad light.
@Judal27
Are you blind?
The comment said make EVEN MORE money. That means “yes they are already making money but they would make MORE.
Done responded to ignorant people who want to argue all because they don’t know how to read.
Alright Atlus, full steam ahead for Switch! And can somebody tell vanillaware Nintendo gamers like their games as well?
Atlus would have more money if they embraced the multiplatform approach.... But since they don’t, I’m in no rush to throw money in their way.
@JaxonH are you being serious right now? No where in my post even implies that that was where the "issue" lies. But you're right I'm not gonna argue with someone that couldn't even read my post correctly.
@westman98 I wonder if Sony made some kind of deal that's keeping Persona 5 exclusive. I guess it's the old school console war fan boy in me, but I actually like the idea of exclusives; Persona for Playstation and SMT for Nintendo. But from a business standpoint, multiplatform would certainly make sense. P5 seems like it would be easy to put on the Switch, and presumably, the upcoming SMT5 could be on Playstation. I do think SMT IV on 3DS would have taken some major effort to port, even to the Vita because of the dual screens and the fact that when you turned the 3D off, SMT IV's graphics looked like a puddle of mud. It would have needed a massive overhaul to move it to another system.
@Judal27
If it’s not “where the issue lies” then why did you bring it up? I’m responding to what you said. You don’t want me to respond to what you said then don’t say it.
You’re not even making sense. You started freaking out because I called out the people down voting “wanting more support from Atlas, which would make them even more money”.
Then you proceed to go on this tirade about how they’re “already making money”, which makes about as much sense as saying the sky is blue because nobody claimed otherwise.
I don’t even know what you’re rambling on about. This is a very simple, clear cut issue.
1 Person says they want to see more support, and it will make Atlus more money
2 People downvote. Apparently they disagree and don’t want to see more support, and don’t think it would make them more money
3 I call these actions out for the fanboyism it is
4 You proceed to go off the deep end talking about “ I didn’t see anyone say blah blah blah” and “ they’re already making money”, Which isn’t even remotely close to what I said, or what Ralizah said.
I think the bottom line is you got offended because you were one of those people downvoting, And now you’re trying to justify yourself. But you can’t. You’re either on one side of the fence or the other. Either you support the notion of more support which would make them more money... or you don’t. And you’ve made it crystal clear on which side of the fence you lie.
@JaxonH you literally said "people were massively down voting Ralizah for hoping they make games for Switch", and "When a person downvotes a post saying “I want Atlus support on Switch.”
I'm telling you that person didn't say that at all. They said, "They'd make even more money if they actually put more resources into developing games for the Switch." I can't speak for anyone else, but my problem lies with: "if they actually put more resources into developing games for the Switch." They probably didn't mean any ill will, but it does come across that way.
You would have known that was my "issue" with it, if you'd even bothered to read the middle sentences of my 1st paragraph where I gave an example of how Atlus is already and is going to continue to put resources into making switch games.
And it's not just that comment and this website. There are other places where people seem to think Atlus doesn't want to or isn't supporting Nintendo enough and it mainly started showing up when a certain game stayed exclusive to another console. Again I ask why? Cause of that 1 game?
Maybe if they’d released a collectors edition of Q2 in Europe they’d have made some more money too.
@Judal27
Ok, allow me to explain something. When a person says “Atlas should bring more games to the Switch and it will also make them more money” and a person downvotes, they are literally disagreeing.
Which means noooo, they don’t want Atlus to support Switch, and noooo, they don’t want Atlus to make more money.
They don’t have to spell it out and say it word for word. The downvote SAYS IT FOR THEM.
Either you agree or you don’t, and if you don’t agree, then you are quite literally disagreeing with wanting more support and Atlus making more money. That says it all.
Of course the fanboy disagreeing will make whatever ridiculous arguments they can conjure to hide the fact their fanboyism has just been called out and put on display for all to see. If I say the sky is blue and you disagree, you can’t come back and argue “well I never specifically said the Sky wasn’t blue”. You didn’t have to. Your disagreement said it for you.
@JaxonH That has no correlation to what I said at all. Not to mention it's wrong, otherwise these so called "fanboys" would have downvoted the 1st post and post #13 just as much as the post you brought up, as these posts are clearly for Atlus to support the Switch. But they're not as downvoted. Why is that? Clearly it had something to do with how post #8 (a some other posts as well) came off and not just cause they disagree with the post entirely.
@Judal27
“Came off”?
There is no “came off”. It said what it meant and meant what it said. “They should support the Switch and they would make more money”. This isn’t some riddle wrapped in an enigma. It was a straightforward post that is impossible to be misunderstood, provided the person reading it actually knows how to read
Just stop. You already backtracked and changed what you said, talking about “they’re already making money”.
Just admit you misread (your fault for not reading properly) and then went off the deep end about it. That or you’re just a fanboy and got triggered by me calling out the people who downvoted.
Either way I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes.
@JaxonH Of course it's a straight forward post. When I say came off, i'm not saying they had some hidden meaning to their words. But even a straight forward post can have a negative or positive tone. Again, they probably didn't intend for it to come off the way it did, but clearly it was the former if they got many downvotes as opposed to the 2 posts I mentioned who also share similar straight forward thinking. Which you've yet to answer as to why they didn't receive the same amount of downvotes.
I never backtracked, you misunderstood my post as me talking about the money Atlus makes, when I was talking about how Atlus is already using resources to make games for switch and will continue to do so.
The 2nd paragraph of my 2nd post was about the people misunderstanding the article as Atlus being in a rough patch for the net loss when they explained why and then went on to say their recent games have exceeded expectations. And it was also about the ones that thought they deserve to be in financial problems because of 1 game.
@Judal27
Downvotes can vary for many reasons. It depends on if something is said in a way that triggers a fanboy or not. Not all posts saying they’d like to see support will trigger somebody.
Furthermore, some people do drive-by downvotes where they don’t read the comments above, they just read the last comment in the list at the time they came by, downvote, and move along. There isn’t an equity downvote system in place where everybody make sure they monitor every comment and downvote equally.
So it was probably a combination of those two things, because there was nothing to misconstrue about a one sentence statement saying they should support Switch more, and it would benefit them by doing so.
@Judal27 I am curious regarding how the Etrian series might handle on switch considering its mechanics on 3ds's two screens..nonetheless would love to see it on switch.
@JR150 I loved TMS#FE on WiiU, if Atlus were to port it I would double dip.
Love Atlus. I tend to buy almost all of their games.
@uximal Agreed! They need to quit focusing on Persona all the dang time. Shin Megami Tensei is the main thing, Persona is the spin-off. TMSFE is a Fire Emblem crossover and they're not doing the game any justice if you ask me!
@JaxonH your 2nd paragraph could have been true if not for the fact that a lot of the posts next to the ones I mentioned were also downvoted a lot. I highly doubt people just happened to miss the 1st post of all things as well. And in your 1st paragraph, you're basically saying what I just said. The downvoted posts came off in a negative way despite still saying the same thing as the 1st post and #13. It's that simple.
@uximal I'd imagine they'd do it similarly to Labyrinth of Refrain. Not everyone was really into the way the map worked there, but it did its job well enough in my opinion. But, they could also tweak it a bit. Either way I'm definitely excited for the next etrian.
