i still somewhat find it funny that final fantasy 7 wins best console game and best of show.
Well FF7/Doom crushed it. SONY didn't even show up and nailed the exclusive win. They better send SE a gift.
Nintendo in the same category as usual. Glad to see John Wick win. Cant wait for it to release.
Im just casually checking the internet when are they goin to release Final Fantasy VII Remake for the Nintendo Switch console. (Wishful thinking)
An award for Destiny 2, really? And I am supposed to take this seriously?
Well, I still haven't forgotten the sea of awards games like Evolved and No man's sky got, this means squat.
I don't trust the VII remake, there is a giant hole in it's development time, and Nomura who is supposed to be it's director (ugh kill me) just joined the project this year and it's supposed to launch early 2020.
I smell some serious bad juju, they are not gonna make a fool out of me after the FF XV fiasco.
How come John Wick beat FE: 3 houses in strategy game award?
Why The Outer Worlds is not coming to switch?
Btw, CTR is also coming to switch, pls add it
Anytime I see destiny 2 win or be talked about best on going game all I think is Warframe.
That's all.
Warframe
No disrespect to Destiny 2, BUT the “Best Ongoing Game” award should have been given to Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Smash had a tournament and announced new characters during E3 and the Banjo-Kazooie reveal was one of the best moments of E3.
Not to mention the fact it is a great game with ongoing support and a growing fan base.
In general I enjoyed E3, probably because I am a huge fan of FF7 and am really looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 and those two games delivered for me.
I know Nintendo didn’t have too much new to offer, but I’m very happy with what the Switch is getting. Luigis Mansion 3, Zelda Remake, Astral Chain, Ni No Kuni, Dragon Quest XI, just to name a few.
FFVII stole the show for me and looks amazing, Cyberpunk is up there but didn't show gameplay. As for Switch I'm most looking forward to Zelda and Panzer Dragoon this year with Luigi's Mansion 3 close behind. I am a big fan of the Gamecube original and whilst I still think that has a better design for the ghosts at least this has the more open nature of that. I'll probably get Ni No Kuni for Switch as it's not a game that'll benefit from 60fps elsewhere and I'll probably get Doom Eternal on both again
Nostalgia is one heck of a drug. I love FFVII, but the remake is the unholy child of Kingdom Hearts and FFXIII wearing FFVII's skin. I'll take my blocky hands any day.
@Gelo not sure this will happen same as resident evil 2 remake.
@Kienda add witcher 3 to the spin.
I get the FF VII thing because the gameplay looked fun, but it just looks so bloated and flashy for the sake of it. Them pushing that super duper collector’s edition and the fact that the game will be released in separate parts means that they are just going to add a lot of unnecessary story elements to a game that was fine and long enough to begin with.
But it will still be a game I’ll likely pick up down the line, even though I’m not that tremendously hyped.
Fire Emblem couldn't even get recognition for strategy game? I find it hard to believe that Jon Wick game is better than actual Fire Emblem, Three Houses at that. Maybe I'm wrong, but I've been searching for the better part of a decade for an equal and haven't found one yet.
Which brings us to the point. It's hard for all but the biggest Nintendo exclusives to get noticed by the mainstream, because the mainstream isnt that interested in Nintendo aside from, you guessed it, Mario and Zelda. I mean, where's Astral Chain? When it was Nier for PS4 its paraded to high heaven. How much you wanna bet Astral Chain would be dominating headlines if it was PS4 exclusive?
My actual picks for best and most exciting games shown were
FFVII Remake
Cyberpunk
DOOM Eternal
Fire Emblem
Luigis Mansion
Dragon Quest XI S
Astral Chain
Zelda BotW 2
Trials of Mana
Final Fantasy VIII Remastered
Panzer Dragoon
Pokemon Sword/Shield
Zelda Link's Awakening
Dragon Quest Builders 2
Nintendo just had the best e3 showing in memory, possibly ever, with an exclusive lineup for the history books, and the only recognition is a family award. This is why I dont trust mainstream media, and why I specifically come to sights like NintendoLife, where other like minded individuals also appreciate these games.
@Yoshi
What do you mean it "wssnt shown during e3"? Fire Emblem was shown every bit as much as Luigi's Mansion 3, and that game grabbed a spot. Both were shown in the Direct, both were shown on the E3 floor. One grabbed a spot, but Fire Emblem didn't.
@JaxonH I think if there were a second and third place in these categories, Nintendo would fill those in. Doom Eternal and Watchdogs do look like brilliant games on their own right, but they stick out even more because they were the only good moments in the otherwise snooze-worthy presentations they were a part of. I don’t know that John Wick game, but yeah I could guess Fire Emblem will be a better game. Just a hunch.
Sony didn't even attend but most of the winners will appear on that console, scary.
Really hoping they find some crazy way of implementing an extra to this game in the form of Luigi's Ghost Mansion from Nintendo Land.
That game was probably the best part of Nintendoland for my friend group, and the one that most accurately mimics the tension that its predecessor Pac Man Vs. served up.
Playing it online, or just generally in the correct context at the outset, is sure to hook more people on the terrifying mechanics.
Kind of ironic that a PS4 game won "best of show" when Sony wasn't even there. Memes are going to have a heyday.
@JaxonH To quote from a previous article, “To be eligible for nomination, games must be "hands-on playable" to voting publications for at least 5 minutes of gameplay at E3 2019.”
In which it was not. As someone who went to E3 this year, Fire Emblem was non-existent on the show floor.
@Yoshi Fire Emblem was actually nominated for the Strategy category this year...maybe it was playable behind closed doors or something?
@JaxonH @PikaPhantom Oh god, this is why I need to stop doing this so early in the morning. I didn’t even see the game in the list. In that case, it must’ve been at the media booth. But I didn’t see it there in passing. Strange. It was not one of the 12 games in the main booth, and I wouldn’t think Nintendo would limit it exclusively to a very small group (not even 5% percent of the attendees), but I guess they only wanted the press coverage?
@Yoshi
Ya I saw it nominated, so it's just a matter of them neglecting anything exclusive to Nintendo that's not a derivative of Mario or Zelda. Theyll throw a bone with a nomination here and there, but never do the games actually get spotlighted for being best in class.
Which, its fine. I dont need my opinions validated by mainstream journalists sharing my opinion, but it would be nice to see these excellent gems get the attention they deserve, instead of always being shafted by a crowd who predominantly prefers gaming on power consoles and PC.
Watch Dogs, for example, has always been mediocre imo. Meanwhile absolute classics like Astral Chain get no mention (which really stands out given Nier Automata was universally praised, or how Persona 5 was universally praised). Games that are equally good if not better, such as Xenoblade 2 and Astral Chain, fall victim to the Sony preference among journalists. Had those games been PS4 exclusive, they'd get way more attention. And attention drives sales, which drives success, which drives support.
@JaxonH I’ve never actually liked Watchdogs either. Ubisoft also showed off the first Watchdogs game at E3 with graphics and features that didn’t actually make it to the final product.
As a presentation though, it did look impressive what they showed off of the new game. It is Ubisoft however, and it’s just as likely to be totally downsized in the release version. If it is the typical open world “go to this mission marker or that one over there” kind of experience then I will cease to care.
I tend to disagree with about half of these whenever seeing rewards like this, but I suppose we all have different tastes. Mine are just less mainstream in some cases. For example, I really think FE: Three Houses should have won over John Wick for best strategy game.
I'll be getting this game eventually because I loved the original very much but I kinda liked the the sequel too but I'm hoping this version will be a fresh start for me. So glad Luigi is getting his own spotlight.
This is going to be awesome! I can't wait to play this on the go on my 3DS!
@Vectorman
???
Not even close. The masses of casuals play the annual AAA titles marketed to them.
And Smash is just one game, this year they had half a dozen great games.
And I know Astral Chain is a classic because of Bayonetta 2 and Nier Automata, two of the highest rated games of the past several years, and this game is from the same director. You can take that to the bank.
@Vectorman not much was shown about it is mainly why also its gunna be split into 2 dif games they said.
I just throw this out there but The Witcher 3 is on Nintendo Switch, but you didn't hear that from me, and there's Saints Row 3, Mortal Kombat 11, Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen, Devil May Cry, I can go on...just uh sayin' you know?
