The Switch version of Phantom Doctrine, a turn-based thriller set during the Cold War, is set to arrive on Switch next month. It releases in North America on 6th of June with the European launch coming a week later on 13th June.

Set in 1983, you're in charge of a clandestine organisation known as The Cabal and it's your job to combat global conspiracies which could lead to all-out war using whatever shadowy means necessary. With gameplay which looks like a Cold War-based XCOM-alike, you'll be investigating case files and infiltrating offices, as you can see in the trailer above.

Originally from CreativeForge Games, the creators of Hard West, it launched on PC, PS4 and Xbox back in 2018 to generally positive reviews. Here are a couple of the standout features from the official blurb:

- An Extensive Single Player Story Campaign: the 40+ hour campaign mode features a rich gripping plot woven with numerous historical events and characters to bring the terrifying reality of the Cold War to life from a unique perspective.
- Next-generation turn-based combat: offers an unprecedented flexibility of movement and actions, including variable Overwatch modes and assault-oriented Breach ability.
- Expanded battlefield: assets can be positioned around the world, enabling you to call for assistance in the heat of battle. But the enemy can also bring in reinforcements, including heavy weapons and even air support. Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight.

The game goes up for pre-order a week prior to release in its respective territories - that's 30th May in North America and 6th June in the EU. Pre-ordering will net you a 20% discount on the game's full price of $19.99 in the US, while European pre-orders will save you 10% on £17.99 / €19.99. It's worth noting that the game is currently double the price on existing digital platforms - a pleasant reversal of the 'Switch tax' Nintendo gamers have been used to paying.

Additionally, you can get a substantial 33% discount if you own any Forever Entertainment title from the following list:
