Behaviour Interactive's Asymmetric survival horror game Dead By Daylight is headed to Switch, it was announced today. Originally released on PC in 2016 and on PS4 and Xbox One a year later, the game allows you to either play as the hunter or the hunted.
You can opt to assume the role of one of four hapless survivors who must escape the clutches of the killer, or you can choose to be the killer and mercilessly track down the other players before butchering them. While the four survivors view the action from a third-person perspective, the killer has a first-person view of the action.
The good news is that there will be loads of content to unlock, including costumes for both survivors and the killer itself. The bad news is that the game didn't review all that well on PC and other consoles, and even the footage shown during today's Nintendo Direct looked a bit ropey.

Looked awful to me 🙄 will it play better than it looks?
It got terrible reviews
@Mgene15 Great user reviews on Steam, though.
I've mildly wanted to check this out for a bit...but this footage looked pretty bad to say the least. Hope it looks better than that, also hope it's not flipping $60. But it probably will be.
@WaveBoy
Inferior? I don't have to buy a PS4 to play Hellblade, so it's a superior version imo
@WaveBoy
Oh wait, I can buy it on PC right now for $9. I'll pass on the Sony eraser fam, my rig would eat it for breakfast.
Almost had me thinking the game was a PS4 exclusive lmao, whew
Not liking this one but will still check it out.
This looked dreadful
@WaveBoy
Why are you trying to sell PlayStation so hard? All I've seen you do lately is compare Nintendo to Sony. By the way, the Switch version of DQ11 is the definitive version.
Also, a little over $900 which is about as much as people pay for a PS4 and then a Pro later. I've had my PC since 2014. It's worth it to pay a little more for the crazy amount of options you get with a PC (I also edit videos and animate on it), and those sweet sweet Steam deals can't be beat.
This game looks bad on other platforms, and it looks even worse on Switch.
@westman98 "This game looks bad on other platforms, and it looks even worse on Switch."
Nothing on there says it was on Switch so how did you come to the conclusion it was bad on Switch when it was not even on the Switch. This is delusion beyond belief here.
@SwitchForce
???
The gameplay of DbD in that trailer was for the Switch version, and it looks really bad.
I got this free from PS+ and haven't even touched it lol. I wish the Friday the 13th game wasnt in limbo due to the rights that game was on track to end up being great!!!
I play it frequently on PS4. It's a fun game. Way way better than that Friday 13th
This looks absolutely terrible. Can't believe they showcased it; I would be embarrassed to show off this game to anyone.
@Orpheus79V Literally every [removed] game on steam is like 9/10. It's hilarious. Extremely low standards I guess.
@WaveBoy not really.
You don't know how it well perform or actually look since it's not out yet. It also runs fine on Xbox One and is included in Game pass so I would suggest buying it that way personally.
As someone whos over 200 hours of this game on pc, let me explain wvat sort of game this is: You are 4 Survivors, working towards a common goal escaping the killer, randomly sent to 1 of 8 different maps, where you work together to fix 5 genererators across the map. Once that is done, 2 exit doors will be able to opened, and you can escape. Thats basically the core of the game. There are many Survivors and killers you can choose between, and every one of them has a set of unique perks (abilities) that you can use on the killer/survivor. There are also items, as for survivors: medkits, toolboxes and flashlights. Medkits allows you to heal yourself or heal your comrades faster. Toolboxes allows you to sabotage hooks that the killer uses to hang you on once your downed, and to finish genererators faster. The flashlights are used to make the killer blind for a brief moment, which you can take advantage of in many ways. The killer gets other sorts of items, mostly used to down survivors more efficiently.
Conclusion: Dead by daylight is a solid game. But be warned: as it is now, it can be very glitchy (if your unlucky) and the network is really screwing you over from time to time (they are, however, working on dedicated servers set to release this summer)
With the right pricetag, say, to a maximum of 30 euro, i'd recommend this game. (unless you cant stand some glitches from time to time)
I like asymmetric game modes, but the previous reviews + the fact that it's not my genre will probably mean I'll skip this.
Not my kind of game, but my son loves this on PC. Will see if he's interested in picking it up sometime after release.
I cannot wait for this game to release on switch i've already played this for 800+ hours on xbox one and for 24 hours on pc, but i will dev. get this on day 1 on switch <3 finally it's happening. the graphics are a bit outdated, especially when you know, that the game uses the UE4 engine, but its hella fun. graphics don't count for me in games, but the gameplay in this game is awesome. best announcement today for me
@WaveBoy If you're going to get a high end console, get the xbox one x. Better frame rates, better resolutions, better visuals. The PS4 Pro is a watered down experience in comparison. That might be your thing, but not me.
i have 2,600 hours on pc
so i'm probably going to get it on switch just for when i don't want to sit at my pc
it's an extremely fun, addictive game, albeit somewhat niche
This game looks like garbage on ps4 and looks even worse on switch... shocked nintendo actually showed it.
I am excited for this. I'm hoping that Friday the 13th also comes to Switch.
I'd straight up recommend people ignore the Dead By Daylight reviews from critics so far. A while back I went around reading them and they flat out do not understand the game at all.
It's a 4v1, 4 survivors working together to repair generators so they can power the exit gates. Open them and escape and you're safe for now. Any mistake will make noise or get you caught. Run and you'll leave tracks the killer can follow.
Objective and healing based actions require skill checks to be completed. Your survivor is stressed, got to help keep those nerves together.
On the killer side, there's about 12 killers in the game so far and each play very differently. The trapper places down bear traps, doctor drives people insane, Myers stalks and so on.
At first, when you're new and not very good, it will seem like killers are op and extremely strong. The game will be scarier. That's a good thing. As you get better, you'll see survivors are stronger andve capable of a lot more.
I don't stealth much for example as I enjoy getting chased and can pull off jukes and mind games. As killer, I enjoy the challenge and again, mind games.
There's a pretty deep progression system in a non traditional sense. There's 3 unique perks for every character in the game and a bunch of general ones. Unique ones can be upgraded to reachable for other characters to get (obviously restricted to the same side so survivors don't get killer perks and stuff) and each perk can be levelled from 1 to 3. You do this via the blood web and in each match, your performance earns you blood points which you spend in this web.
As you get better and your knowledge increases, and your perk collection grows, you'll start to come up with different perk builds (up to 4 equipped on each character at any 1 time) and play styles to go along with them.
The game is very focused and that works very well in its favour. It means generally good map design, clear objectives, brilliant gameplay and more than enough room to mess around in and have the unexpected happen.
There's pretty cool lore in game for why the maps look kinda like related locations but very distorted. If you care for that kind of thing, there's a really nice amount in here.
Visually I kind of love it as aside from environment, action and grunts of pain, the games play like silent films/movies. The visual style enhances that and does enough to build up a great atmosphere.
Also if you like, you can play against your friends in kill you friends mode or play with friends in a little party of survivors against an unknown killer.
Thought I'd throw in some stuff about it as I'm seeing a lot of negativity here and I'd hate to see poor critic reviews have people missing out on what I consider to be one of the very best games out there.
It's held more than respectable viewing figures on Twitch and YouTube for along time now to the point that some point have their careers on those platforms playing this game. User/player reviews like wise are really positive and show there's a lot to love.
The devs are extremely active when it comes to new content, changing or fixing stuff and the community too.
I can't get enough of it. I just love this game and I'm going to have to buy it yet again now! If you like horror games you're doing yourself a disservice by not giving it a chance.
Oh and people! That trailer had no gameplay of any sort! Go look up some videos by people who are decent at the game!!!
@mj2k18 Please mind your language!
@Octane Really? Wow. I wasn't attacking anyone. It's a word that people use to place emphasis on the statement.
@mj2k18 Profanity isn't allowed. Please read the Community Rules.
Everybody watch ohmwrecker play Dead by Daylight and you'll see how fun this game is.
@FruitTea
Thanks for the description, I was already intrigued and you made me more so. Is this online or couch co-op? What about the AI?
Thanks
