Mortal Kombat 11 was expected to arrive worldwide on the Switch in April until several European retailers updated their product listings for the Switch version of the game, changing the launch date to 10th May.
At the time, these retailers included Amazon and even the Warner Bros. store (the company responsible for publishing the game). If this delay wasn’t already set in stone, the official Nintendo UK store is now listing the game’s arrival for 10th May 2019 as well. This pretty-much confirms the latest entry won’t arrive on the Switch in this region the same day as other platforms.
On the plus side, if you do decide to pre-order the game from the UK Nintendo store, there’s a choice between the standalone game or a special bundle. The bundle priced at £59.99 contains a copy of the game and a Mortal Kombat Pixel Pals Lamp. The lamps to choose from include Raiden, Sub-Zero and Scorpion. Take a look below:
The Switch release of Mortal Kombat 11 in North America appears to be on track, with sites like GameStop and the local Nintendo store still showing the original launch date of 23rd April 2019.
This European delay isn’t the only Mortal Kombat 11 setback, after it was confirmed earlier in the month Switch owners would miss out on the Collector’s Edition. Fortunately, pre-ordering any version of the game will still unlock the special character, Shao Kahn.

Just import an American copy guys
Sorry to derail this story, but Piranha Plant has been released 😍
Why Europe though? What's the difference?
@RyanSilberman usually languages don't kniw if that's the case here
@RyanSilberman @smithpa01 If that was the case wouldn't it impact all the platforms and not just one?
And if it was a cartridge issue wouldn't it then impact ALL regions not just one?
Bizarre. No, a small time delay doesn't in itself matter to me. But it would be respectful of them to explain why it's happening. Respect your gamers yo, they're the ones buying your product remember.
My bigger concern is that perhaps the game will be poor quality on Switch if it's a game that's designed to look incredible on an Xbox 1X. I really really want the Shao Kahn fighter, heck I even have the family name Kahn myself. But I'd kick myself if the game wasn't good on Switch. If I had an Xbox 1X (feel free to gift me one) I'd happily preorder it, otherwise I think I'm going to have to sit on my hands and cry until I see reviews...
Still on track here in the States. No biggie either way, I feel like people put off by a 2 week delay wouldn't buy the Switch version anyway. Just my take anyway.
Be content that in Europe is just a slight delay, at least you’re getting it. In Japan we will never get this game.
It would be interesting to know the reasoning still.
It would be interessting if it was licensing laws surrounding using Rouseys image as Sonya Blade.
That is an absolute stab in the dark though, no pun intended.
I'm not too concerned by a slight delay, the game is most definitely on my radar just not nesesarily a day one purchase.
In all honesty though (delay or no delay) I'll probably pick up the PS4 version. I actually have way more Switch games than Ps4 and I do like to share the love and put my 4K tv to good use from time to time
I'd say it's because of censorship needed in certain European countries. Shiver will need to alter the final us version - after that is golden.
Just get it on the PS4 or XBOX and play the best version of the game on the actual release date.
@Lionyone of course it will, it will just be a case of how bad, well perhaps not bad but difdferent. I have other systems and that's where i'll be playing it. I don't want to experience the most beautiful fighting game released at a lesser quality so that i can stand outside in the cold.
@JR150 Yep, should arrive right around the official release date here
Will be getting but not at £60
The only thing I can think is the localisation for Ninty Europe is being handled by someone else than those doing the XB1 and PS4 European versions?
So was the collectors edition anything useful or just silly stuff?
Edit Nevermind the only useful thing in the special editions is the week early dlc pack. As with the last game and Injustice 2 way too much of a ridiculous price for an MK/MK style fighting game. I will wait for a real collectors edition with all the dlc for whichever platform I get it on.
Now DragonballZ was totally worth the full intro price imo but I get bored with MK once I see all the finishers usually.
@YANDMAN let’s wait for reviews to see how downgraded the Switch version is before telling people which version to buy. Needless to say, many people hold portability in high esteem. If it runs smoothly and isn’t too compromised I’m in for switch version purely so I can play in bed and on my commute.
Oh well at least if it doesn't live up to the other versions, I will find out on launch day about it by reading american switch reviews lol,
@YANDMAN
What does you having other systems do with others buying choices?
@electrolite77 Absolutely nothing, what does others buying choices have to do with me owning other systems?
@beazlen1Nah
@YANDMAN
You said “Just get it on the PS4 or XBOX and play the best version of the game on the actual release date.”
How do you know which version is ‘the best’ for anyone but you?
$60, hmm. The game, by default should have at least 30 characters.
30 characters for $60 dollars, I mean come on.
I'm sure there'll be a ton of DLCs and guest characters along the way and I have never ordered guest characters. I think they are suck.
@electrolite77 I was clearly talking to myself in the third person.
