Campo Santo's walking simulator Firewatch is now out on the Switch. If you needed an extra incentive to pick up this particular version of the game, it's been discovered there's a special Nintendo 64 easter egg hidden deep within the forest. Obviously, if you intend to play the game, we recommend you click away now to avoid any spoilers.
At a certain point in your adventure, your character will stumble upon a supply cache. To unlock it you'll have to input a code ending in 64. Doing this unlocks a virtual title called 'Forrest 64' - which can actually be played by placing the old school cartridge next to a statue in the game. When you do this, it allows you to access a platform-style title reminiscent of Banjo-Kazooie, where you have to go around collecting items, escaping from enemies and even participating in timed races. The fun begins around the 7:30 mark in the below video:
To some, this might look more exciting than the actual game. What do you think of it - does it make you want to play Firewatch, or have you already picked it up? Would you like to see Campo Santo create its own platform game? Tell us in the comments.

Would have been cool to discover this out by myself when I play it over Xmas but hey ho :/
That draw in with the shadows is off putting.
I have it on PC and love it, so I think I will just stick with the PC version.
That shadow draw in is ridiculous. I have seen it on V-Rally 4 clips too. By striving to be more realistic the developers are helping to completely break immersion with effects like that. Either come up with a better solution or just provide an option to turn it off completely.
Why are people complaining that Nintendo life spoiled this? It does say don't watch it if you don't want spoilers. The picture on the main page is just a generic shot of the game on a Switch. Did the article change or something?
@PixelTavern Yeah, I changed the front pic after the feedback.
@Liam_Doolan And good on you for doing so. ππ»
Cool. I might grab this now. If there a physical version?
The framerate drops and pop-in pays respect to the N64, too π
I watched Markiplier play this some years ago, so I have no need to play this myself
Shadows look like V-Rally 4....no thanks.
wow. shadows. ok, I'm not buying this. can't get behind that kind of break in immersion. I'd rather have no shadow than have something like that.
Pretty nice easter-egg.
