Feral Interactive has revealed that GRID Autosport is headed to Nintendo Switch in 2019.
This AAA racer was originally developed and published by Codemasters for PS3 and Xbox 360, and also saw releases on Windows, Mac, and mobile devices. The game received mostly positive reviews when it originally launched back in 2014, with almost universal praise being given to its career mode.
GRID Autosport challenges players to become pro-racers, mastering some of motorsport's most exciting cars on the world's most thrilling circuits. You'll be racing in locations ranging from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to the city streets of Barcelona, with customisable difficulty options and a range of driving disciplines available to mix things up along the way.
David Stephen, Managing Director of Feral Interactive, has said the following:
"GRID Autosport's AAA production values and deep yet accessible gameplay will make it a fantastic addition to the Nintendo Switch. Following its success on iOS, we're thrilled to bring it to Switch players."
At present, that mention of "2019" is all we have to go on for a release date. We'll make sure to keep an eye out for more news in the coming months.

Well, that's my 2019 made of win already.
That was a surprise.
OMG YESSSS!!!!!!!! Super excited for this, quite a surprise!
Reading the quote, I read it as them saying "because of it working on mobile phones, we thought might as well put it on switch"
Will wait an see how it looks and works first
Surprising, but strange choice by Codemasters nonetheless to port this game, instead of the (arguably) superior DIRT games. Funny fact too, the DIRT franchise at some point was actually going to make it to the Wii U.
Either way, hopefully this will add to the mix of the upcoming Racing games for all the auto sport fans.
I also find it quite funny that "AAA" is in the front of the article title as if that's the most important and exciting thing about this title coming to the Switch. Doesn't matter if the game is sub-par, as long as it's AAA people are happy!
Wish we had Burnout Paradise, I love that game
This is a surprise really good game day 1 for me
That should be fun with no analogue triggers.
Sweet! I played the original Grid and quite enjoyed it! Racers on the Switch are starting to look up!
This is a great game. Can’t wait.
@Bunkerneath Yeh, no need to mention the iOS release was there. Just feels like a dig.
I prefer Grid style racing to Dirt, so this is welcome news, but watch them push that AAA racing tag to try and justify a silly price for a game most people with a PC and any interest would have bought on Steam for around £3 long ago.
@Shiryu I saw this and knew you'd be as happy as me, this is cracking news.
@timson72 you don’t need analogue triggers for every racing game it’s not a simulation
@gcunit i agree, downloads were probably slowing down on ios so that's given them reason to now acknowledge the switch! I'll check it out but I hope they have more in store for this nearly 5 year old game.
Of course I'm excited! This fills a big gap in the Switch library.
@gcunit Yep, my guess is they’ll try and rush us for £39.99 / $49.99, even though it’s £9.99 on iOS
@Stocksy All that is left is for EA to announce the Burnout Paradise Remaster and Nintendo to reveal the new F-Zero SX.
@Gs69 true, it annoys me how many times people complain about that, if they really think analog triggers are such a must then a controller at all is worthless because a steeringwheel is the best way to play such games.
I play that way on PC, but I've played a ton of handheld racing games and never missed analog triggers, only games like Arsetto Corsa or Project Cars really benefit from these.
@Shiryu both would be most welcome. I’d love Dirt 3 and Dirt showdown or switch exclusive version of 4. Hoping V rally turns out nice
Finally, a proper racing simulator will be available on Switch!
I would love some great Burnouts, too, although not that abomination that's called Paradise.
@timson72 I'm guessing you haven't played a GRID game before? It's not a realistic sim like Forza or Gran Turismo. Analog triggers are barely noticeable on PS3, this will make little difference if any.
@Rayquaza2510 agreed I play the games you have mentioned on PS4 but use a wheel it’s kind of nonsense that you need analog triggers for every racing game Mario kart 8 dx plays superb so don’t see the problem
Codemasters should also remaster, or make a proper new Overlord game and bring that to the Switch too.
@Stocksy I sadly have not heard many positive thing about that one, I'm still on the fence but time will tell...
Many different cars and locations, career mode, cockpit view, day/night conditions... yeah, looks like a definite purchase (I was gonna say "double-dip" again, but checking back revealed it's GRID 2 I have on Steam). And diverse as Switch library is, racing games are still a less represented section (just like they have arguably been this whole generation - again, tell me more about the horrors of getting old ports, guys 😏).
Great News!!! Now the one thing left is to nintendo launch a new Pro Controller with analog triggers, then it'll be perfect.
Codemasters are the last of the original Nintendo Switch Partners from that infographic of October 2016 (https://mms.businesswire.com/media/20161020005938/en/550862/5/NX_Partners.jpg) to announce any titles for the system.
Think I got this for 'free' a year or two back on PS Plus for PS3. Seemed an OK racer, though I tend to prefer proper arcade style drifters like Daytona, SEGA Rally, OutRun 2 and Ridge Racer.
Day One buy for me
@gcunit
why is IOS a dig?
the switch is the same thing as an ipad but less powerful. honestly an ipad pro would run circles around a switch. hell probably an iphone x (whatever the new junk is) is more powerful than the switch (but probably more thermally limited).
@sword_9mm Because why is iOS relevant to this news? Just smacks of "Hi there little ones, we've scraped the mobile barrel clean, so now we're coming to the Nintendo desperates".
Forget the racers, Codies and port the XBLA version of SWOS to the Switch already!
Finally alot of racing games are coming to the Switch. I'm happy! Btw, I use my Switch Pro Controller when playing Project Cars 2 on Steam and that works very well as long as you are able to tweak the sensitivity to your likings. Grid should run just fine, more worried about Vrally4 thats coming in a couple of weeks time, but I'm not that worried about the controls on Switch, analog triggers or not.
@gcunit I agree, this announcement would have been a lot more exciting were it not for "hey we ported our old 360 game to phones, like, years ago, so we figured a Switch port is kind of free for us, and it's a popular thing, so why not" rather than a product they were really excited to bring to Switch. Then again, Codemasters quality has been sinking pretty steadily for over a decade. They seem to have dropped all games except racers, and they don't feel "top bracket" in that category anymore either. DiRT is still pretty good for now but doesn't feel as significant as it once did. And they abandoned all other genres ages ago. Their last Operation Flashpoint was 2011, the last Overlord, Fellowship was horrendous on a Fallout 76 scale. We have to go back to 2009 for them to have significant output.
I WANT IT. And Dirt. Day one for me, seriously.
Here is hoping for dirt. I will snag this eventually.
I don’t know how any of u survived before analog triggers, but I set the right stick as my accelerator and brake. Up to go, down to stop. It’s worked well for years for me.
Keep the games rolling in! 2019 is going to be awesome on top of ‘18 ending with a bang with Smash Ultimate.
These days I consider being 3rd Party AAA as a mark if shame unless proven otherwise.
Good for the racing fans!
@PorllM Well considering I own it on PC. It's no less sim then Forza or GT and still requires a degree of throttle control.
@Gs69 Not claiming you do,but a game like this you do.
Well it was a good racer back in the day.
Unlike story based old games, old racers still have playability. Still depends on the price for me. If price reflect it is mostly for on the GO play to some, it could work 🤔
@Agramonte
This is from 2014. Hah, you were so concerned with turning this into something negative that you didn't even get it right.
@Audiobrainiac same i have always played racers that way too whenever possible
Very happy! I just wish the triggers were pressure sensitive... Anyways glad to finally be getting a proper racing game.
Played this on the PS3, it has a high difficulty spike from what I remember, the cars are tricky to control compared to other semi-arcade racing games. As I love racing games it's a must buy, but I'd love to see a DIRT game on the Switch as my most played PS4 game is DIRT 4.
I need to look up reviews and gameplay but I'll probably pick this up next year. I remember hearing good things about this title and I love racing sims like Forza. Could use some more racing games on my Switch!
@duhsoares21 Or make the game compatible wth GC contollers.
@Agramonte You wouldn't have bought it on the Switch even if it was new knowing you.
@NEStalgia
" I agree, this announcement would have been a lot more exciting were it not for "hey we ported our old 360 game to phones, like, years ago"
Years ago? It came out on iOS almost exactly a year ago.
@HollowGrapeJ I just finished saving enough to get my Marlboro 1 Mclaren 650S in Forza Horizon. And now I need 1.5million for my next car (2011 AGERA). So I know I will not play this at home anytime soon
But if price is right I would get it to play on the GO. I also said last year that I would love F1 2018 on Switch. Even if a year late.
@Agramonte I can understand price being an issue for some people with older ports. But, I just think you are not looking at things realistically if you expect the Switch to be the place for new AAA games.
If Switch is somebody's only console, then sure. I know how it feels to some people to want games and not be able to have em because I used to be Nintendo-only. But, I now know that it's pretty much pointless to hope for that and move to other platforms if I want those games.
But, even still, the Switch is doing better than the Wii U did with it's support. Even if I don't buy the games, I love every time the Switch gets ports of games like this. You wouldn't expect full third party from Nintendo consoles, but it's still offering some things to the table and that's a good thing.
Hopefully, this will have online multiplayer other than Gear Club Unlimited which scrapped that feature.
@Shiryu I’ve got it preordered and I’m hoping it’s just ok.... I got plenty of hours from gear club and that was no forza Horizon.... I’m hoping v rally is just good enough to fill that void for good off roading.
@HollowGrapeJ I agree with just about all that. I was super hard on MHGU at $60. But at $37 now it is a buy in my book. My issue was always price.
Just not sure why they just can't take this engine and make a new F1. Update REDBULL to Honda Power and team roster (goodbye Alonso). Toss in a new career mode, keep the physics of 2018 and make a few classic cars DLC packs for extra cash... And announce BOTH for 2019.
I'm Sure not that simple - but can dream for balance. Anyway, I hear your point... so updated my comment. I still wish they try harder on Switch.
This does look 10X better than CodeMater F1 Mobile on iOS... that is a travesty 😔
Why doesn't the Switch have analogue triggers for cripes' sake!?! Certainly a slew of driving games coming out at the moment. GRIP, Horizon, Outrun, now Grid and we'll have to see what the Video Game Awards show us...
Nice. Racing games are a great genre for Switch.
Wow wow wow....GRID??? Are you serious?? Insanely good news. One of my all time favorite arcade/sim racers
Great game, a bit old now but perfect for the Switch.
@Varkster Not strange at all, Grid Autosport is already on mobiles, hence why it's coming to Switch.
@Bunkerneath Exactly. Milking it since they already optimized it for mobile. Also, I don't like it when they say ''switch players''. We're not normal players I guess.
I don't mean this as a slam against this specific game, but racing games have the worst trailers. They're always patched together from really short clips, most from camera angles you wouldn't actually use while playing the game. This trailers are almost worthless for judging if I'd enjoy the game or not.
