Ubisoft has revealed that its free-to-play platform fighter game Brawlhalla will be launching on Nintendo Switch this November.
The game, which has now amassed an impressive 15 million players across its PC and PS4 versions, sees players trying to knock one another off the stage in a very similar style to Super Smash Bros. As you can see in the trailer above, there are numerous similarities between the two titles, with all the frantic fighting action you'd expect from a platform brawler.

Developed by Blue Mammoth, Brawlhalla features over 40 unique characters, with options for players to jump into single-player and co-op modes, as well as online and local competitions. Controls are designed to be straightforward, again adopting Super Smash Bros.' approach by having one-button special moves, with various weapons falling from the sky which can help to deal some serious damage. You can also grip onto the side of the stage should you fall.
To spice things up a little, you can also perform two quick consecutive dodges, either sideways or vertically. Once in the air, you can perform any combination of three available jumps: a directional air-dodge; a 'gravity-cancel'; and 'fast-falling'.
The Switch version arrives on 6th November, plonking itself on the eShop for free just a month before Super Smash Bros. Ultimate arrives on the scene. Will its free-to-play nature draw away any potential Smash buyers? We'll have to wait and see.
Are you excited to see Brawlhalla on Switch?

😒
Meh.
No thanks.
Ubisoft have so many IPs that would be great to have on the Switch and they go for a clone of one of the most eagerly anticipated games this generation?
It beggars belief!
@Anti-Matter Man, I read all your comments and they're all the same, negative with a Meh... Tell me are you happy??
On the topic, Brawlhalla seems nice and its free more than that!!
@GrailUK Rheyre probably salty that Sakurai wouldn’t put a Rabbid in Smash
Likely to be eclipsed by Smash.
If it’s free I wonder if it won’t need the online subscription?
Any confirmation of cross platform play?
Both of the above might give it a (ahem) fighting chance.
@0muros
I was fine.
But that trailer wasn't impressed me at all.
My face was frowning while watching the trailer.
Sign of Not interested with the gameplay concept.
@JoeDiddley Free to play games don't need subscription according to Sony and Microsoft. If Nintendo don't follow that they gonna loose a lot of buyers for their paid service cloud saving gimmick.
Looks fun. It’s free too
the game is really nice but no, it will not hinder smash bros in any way even if smash bros would be really bad, we are talking about some of the biggest fanboys in the world here that drink the nintendo cool aid every day so yeah:P
gave it a try on pc a while ago, I really liked it but didn't feel like pouring much time into it to get good at it. it's a nice alternative to smash, better than brawlout
Played this on PC a while back. It's decent, has a really nice art style but didn't really click with me. The characters all play differently enough but all feel kind of the same because they're all based on the same body, it doesn't have the visual variety that Smash has. I much preferred BrawlOut but this certainly isn't a bad option, especially being free!
Its great that its free to play - but I've had the chance to play the PS4 version previously. Didn't appeal at all. At least its free though.
Don't get this game. It's garbage. It may look nice but I allowed myself to believe that its large cast of characters (most of which were unlocked through a purchase) meant it had a ton of variety, but nothing could be further from the truth. They all have the same basic combos when unarmed and each of them has some combination of three of the same six weapon types throughout the entire game. The play modes are extremely lacking.
I don't often make bad game choices, but I spent the cash to unlock the whole cast for this game and continue to regret it. Not even close to a Smash competitor.
I’ll play it because I’ve heard good things and it’s free!
Won't even phase Smash in the slightest.
I really want to see Far Cry 3 + 4, Splinter Cell Conviction and Blacklist, Prince of Persia Collection, A Rainbow Six Vegas HD Collection, and some darn Ghost Recon from Ubi on Switch. Cmon! Trials and Rayman, by all means. Starlink looks cool and all, and M+R was surprisingly good, but cmon. Feels like they only have one foot in the water.
This game is pretty solid. My kids have gotten really good at it playing on ps4. While I don't think it will put any reasonable dent into smash, more games on the switch is always a good thing!
Wow! More and more free to play games coming. Glad to see this happening. Video not avail in the US. Will check the trailer on Youtube.
I much prefer Rivals of Aether and Icons Combat Arena. And while not as great as the latter, also Brawlout and Slap City.
says video isn't available in my country couldn't watch the trailer. I'm in the US.
It’s definitely better than Brawlout
The game is cool, I had a good moment playing with my friends. The weapon mechanic makes it different of smash and that is a good thing.
I played A LOT of Brawlhalla on the PC, this game is great and for F2P it is not at all bad. Granted it will have a bit of competition with the Smash Bros release but do not pass this gem buy.
I might sometimes try and even enjoy some free to play titles, but there has yet to be one I consider even as good as a proper game. I can't imagine choosing a F2P title over a well established proper game like SSB. No way.
The only people I can imagine doing that are people who cannot afford to buy games, or people who are not that interested in this type of game and not willing to spend any money on it.
I really dislike the F2P model of game design and the fact that it has spread to consoles and PC.
Lol, here comes another one...
Doesn't look bad, but its free to play.
