Japanese developer Inti Creates is known for its action-packed platform games like Mega Man Zero, Mighty No. 9, Blaster Master Zero and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. During a recent interview with Nintendo Force, the CEO of the company, Takuya Aizu, was asked what game he would select if his team was required to remake one of Nintendo’s existing games.
His response was certainly an interesting one, selecting the 1986 title, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
Just one!? Well, I would love to make a new The Adventure of Link for the modern era!
Despite being a success at the time of release, Zelda II was never considered a true masterpiece compared to games in the series before or after. It’s remembered as a title that did not provide a classic Zelda experience due to its side-scrolling design. In saying this, its legacy lives on - being the first game in the series to include NPCs and one of the earlier games to combine platform and role-playing elements.
Surprisingly, this isn't the first time we've heard about someone eyeing-off the Zelda II, with the man behind Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap on Switch, of the belief he could make the game a lot better than it actually was.
Do you think Inti Creates would have what it takes to recreate this classic Zelda title on NES? Would you want to see a remake of a game like Zelda II: The Adventure of Link? Have you ever played it before? Tell us below.

If done right, this would be a great idea! I think side-scrolling Zeldas given another chance would be a nice change of pace for the series, and Inti Creates have proven they can do some great side-scrollers.
Given their current track record of retro successors, I'd trust them.
Zelda 2 isn't as bad as some people make it out to be, but it does have a lot of problems. Inti should be able to recreate the original vision.
All I can see is a Zelda 2 version of THAT Mighty No. 9 trailer...
....and I'd rather not see that happen
I think for the future it's best to forget Mighty No. 9 exists, let's just remember them as the team who created Bloodstained.
When it was new, Zelda II was Zelda. The series might have continued as a side-scrolling platformer, or not. Only in retrospect does it seem out of place.
Zelda 2 is great. I prefer it over the original.
I love Zelda 2, though for a long time I didn't because I thought it was too hard. Turned out I was playing it wrong so it was my fault. I would love a remake.
Yes if done right I like to see it happen. A remake of the original in the style of A Link to the Past would be awesome too.
I would like this!!
edit: i take that back on what i sad earlier. although, im sure a NES isnt very cheap to buy.
i would love to see this. would make it better to have a new version than a version that may be like $400-$500 on NES.
@Seacliff This. So hard. The game had issues, but was still a lot of fun to young me, and still is.
I’d be all over a hand drawn Zelda II remake a la Wonder Boy.
That's the magic of a remake. If people consider the original as not living up to the name of Legend of Zelda, then a remake could improve upon the formula and do just that.
Whether Inti is the team to do it, I have no idea. But I do believe it could be done.
I would rather have the guys that did the Dragon Kid game (the one where the kid becomes a lizard, then mouse, lion, bird)
I really like the hand drawn, cartoon visuals... Which is MILES better than Mighty Number 9..m. And that makes people cry like an anime fan on prom night. ZING!
@Ttimer5 Refers you to Gunvolt, Gunvolt 2 and more under Inti Creates belt
They have more going for them than Mighty No.09 can ever drag them down for.
Could be great if done right. I fee like Blaster Master Zero remake was a good idea, but I quit because the new version was too easy compared to the original, so if a remake is done, I hope it preserves the difficulty, better
Nintendo will stubbornly turn this down, and we all know this. What a waste...
Yes!!! Please!! It was actually a great game, and if they corrected the flaws, it would be so amazing! Actually, there weren’t even that many flaws: the dungeons were well-designed, the Boss fights were epic (for their time), the music was great, the sense of discovery was on par with its predecessor, it controlled well, etc. All they would need to do is dial back the absurd difficulty of Death Mountain, make the NPC’s more useful, and....that’s about it, really.
Honestly, though, I would almost prefer Wayforward to do the remake, based on their work on Contra 4, and the Shantae series!
Elliot's Quest is a great alternative, tbh.
Wishful thinking but I definitely want a remake for this...my favorite Zelda
Mighty No. 9... so Inti Creates were involved with one bad game. Mega Man 9 & 10, Azure Striker Gunvolt, Mighty Gunvolt Burst, Blaster Master Zero, Mega Man Zero, Bloodstained: CotM all combined should be more than enough to forget one bad game. I'd like to see them try a Zelda 2 remake. And also Mega Man X9 and maybe a Simon's Quest remake.
If they remove the grinding and streamline the backtracking, I’d love to see that remake.
Yes PLEASE, Zelda 2 (and 1 for that matter) definitely needs a remake.
Would be great. I always liked the increased emphasis on swordplay in Zelda 2. Expanding that combat system would be great outside of the usual graphical and other quality of life upgrades. It was actually my first Zelda game so I had nothing to be upset about when people were complaining they wanted the top down zelda style.
So much yes, let them do this nitneod!
For sure. I love this Zelda and the music.
no thanks.
Make a Zelda 1 and 2 remake both where great games I actually enjoyed the first one better than the second and liked where the first one after beating it you okay through again and it's different. Do it for the switch and Wii u
MAKE IT HAPPEN
Nintendo, give Inti Creates the okay sign. Please. I've seen their work, I've seen their efforts. Don't let this opportunity go to waste.
Guys that did Wonder Boy wanna do it too. Somebody please do it. Its one of my VERY favorite NES games, and a top choice in the Zelda franchise.
A remake of Zelda II? And one developed by the makers of Mighty No. 9? It's the mashup we don't deserve.
(No. Seriously. We deserve better than this. )
Could be interesting. Honestly, with all the HD Zelda's and the remake of Metroid II I think I would really like to see how this would turn out.
Nah.
Just don't care about this happening.
Lol.
Both 1 and 2 for Switch. Plus an upgrade of LttP with the LbW engine. And I can die a happy man.
It's a great idea. Nintendo's done HD remasters on their disc-based titles, why no the cart offerings as well?
I actually like Zelda 2. It's hard as hell and remains the reason I bought a Game Genie, but there's some charm to it and fun to be had. I'd enjoy a revisit to this one as well as Zelda 1, which got a partial overhaul in BS Zelda.
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss please do this.
I'd rather it be a new game in the same style, but I'd take a remake. I love Zelda 2.
I think Zelda 2 was a great entry in the series. It was an enjoyable game to play through. All that would need to be tweaked is the unforgiving difficulty. It would be good if it got the wonder boy treatment, being able to switch between modern and original sound and graphics on the fly.
I would love to see the Wonder Boy creators remake Zelda 2. They could make it fulfill the potential that it had.
Didn't Wonder Boy (remake) creator state the same?
@Not_Soos as several other people in this chat have mentioned, Inti has made a great number of very good 2D action games. To trash them based on the one bad game is a disservice.
I would be up for a Wonderboy, Ultra SF2, Toki, type makeover. Strangely, the biggest turn off for people with Zelda 2 seems to be the mistake in thinking he his holding his sword upright (when actually that is his shield!)
I’d be up for giving them the chance to remake Zelda 2 as they done a great job with Mighty Gunvolt Burst and Curse of the Moon
Inti Creates would be a good team to remake Zelda II. There track record shows that they know how to create a side scrolling action platformer.
I actually like Zelda 2 a lot and would really love to see someone attempt a remake. Only suggestion I'd make is do away with the lives format and perhaps give the player fairies or something similar instead. Nothing is less fun than dying in a dungeon and having to go back to the palace with Zelda every single time. At the very least, give us checkpoints or warp points... anything!
@NewAdvent to be honest, I don’t care what other people think. Most Zelda games are easy. The fact that this game gave me a challenge is the more of the reason I wanted to beat it. If this game does get the remake treatment, I hope Inti keeps the difficulty up there.
I would pay a full 60 bucks for that. It used to be my favorite Zelda game until Breath of the Wild came out.
@Indielink Sorry, I just wanted to make a joke. I need to quit assuming people will be able to tell I'm joking from a tongue-faced emoji, haha. It's honestly less Inti Creates as it is Zelda II that has me disinterested, since that game wasn't the most well-received Zelda title. I'm not very familiar with the company, but I'm not gonna ride them off for one bad game. I just thought it would be funny to point out how the people behind one of the most infamously bad kickstarter were interested in remaking the most infamously, well...maybe not bad but average I guess, Zelda game that wasn't on the CD-i.
Spent a large portion of my life hating this game, then gave it a run on WiiU and loved it. I guess it just took 25 years or so to connect with me.
This should absolutely be considered by Nintendo. Would love to play an updated re-imagining of Zelda2, especially by the masters at Inti Creates.
...would be nice to have another DarkHorse art book release alongside it too...
Anything Zelda is money in the bank for Nintendo. This is a great idea where everyone wins. Make this happen now!
I would buy it, Inti Creates is quality.
I’ve always loved Zelda II and planned on revisiting it soon. I’d better get on it before it’s remade.
Zelda II is already amazing just as it is. Stop remaking the past!
Zelda II was a fantastic game idea far ahead of it's time, but was a level of ambition far beyond what the tech of the time could actually realize. It fell horribly flat as a result, but the game could really be given new life in a re imagining to work the way Miyamoto likely imagined it in his head before the tech made him make the game that he feels is the least favorite game he's made.
An Inti Creates remake of Zelda 2 sounds pretty awesome, I'd be down for that.
Zelda 2 still goes back and forth as my favorite Zelda.
Remake with 3D graphics would be a fun project!
Nah, Inti creates isn't good enough. The Gunvolt games are fun, but not great (very weak level-design in my opinion). Mighty no 9 is considered crap. Double dragon 4 is considered crap too. I rather have the Wonderboy remake guys on the job!
But can it run Crysis?
I enjoy Zelda II far more than I, or the following A Link to The Past for that matter. Side scrollers are Inti's bread and butter, so I'd be all over this.
Let’s not forget the amazing job they did on Azure Striker Gunvolt. And I’m very excited for Dragon: Marked For Death. I’d love to see their take on Zelda II.
I actually really like Zelda 2 but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to see what these masters of retro could do with it. I’m open to it.
god no would i never want a remake of this, this game is one of the worst in the series, for me anyway.
@GloryQuestor Then we can coin the term Zeldavania
I just said this yesterday. But I want it made to be a 3D game that mimics the look of the animated series.
@DarthKirby You are absolutely correct. I remember getting it on launch day and thinking it was a great Zelda game. I thought it was a great sequel and a natural evolution. Back then, no one thought about whether a game fit the property's mould or not. It was just a nee game in the series with famiar characters and great gameplay - everything we would expect from Zelda.
Personally, I think this is a great idea. Either developers mentioned in the article would do the game great justice. Though, if I were king of the world, I'd give the nod to the Wonderboy team.
Excuse me? The first game in the series to introduce npcs? Well I must have imagined paying door repair charges, talking to little old men, buying medicine from little old women and accepting bribes from moblins.
And no I would not like to see Zelda 2 remade. As much as I love Inti its actually a very good game that got dealt a bad hand by a bunch of people who acted like it was Ninja Gaiden on steroids or something and retroactively spit on it for being too different from the Zelda formula, which at the time simply didn't exist.
It's challenging for a Zelda game, but mostly pretty fair, barring a couple of areas.
@Kimyonaakuma
Uh your thinking about Comcept.
@Varkster
No. Most people know them as the amazing team who gave us the Mega Man Zero series, ZX, Gunvolt, CoM, the Wii Shop classic Mega Mans, Gal Gun, Blaster Master Zero, the upcoming Marked For Death.
@rushiosan
All Zelda has backtracking. rolls eyes
@Audiobrainiac
I'm excited for Marked For Death also.
Pretty sure I would buy a DotEmu Zelda II remake and an Inti Creates Zelda II remake.
If it's like Samus Returns then yes. I don't want to play Zelda II in some in a cartoony like style. Not hating on Wind Waker or anything btw cause I love that game. I'd rather have them do it like they did Samus Returns graphic wise
