You might be unfamiliar with the name Chuka Taisen, although there's a chance you stumbled upon the Sega Master System port re-branded Cloud Master. This charming Taito developed shmup is making its way to Nintendo Switch this summer via Retroism, a division of Tommo. The game will, once again, be re-branded as Monkey King: Master of the Clouds for us western players.
Do you have any great memories of this zany shmup? Could this lead the way for further Taito games to show up on the Switch? Dare we whisper... Darius? Light up the comments sections below!

Um...
Chuka Taisen, Not Chuga Taisen.
Btw, Yes of course !
It was my childhood game.
But i will choose Switch version since it was started from NES.
Will NEVER consider the PS4 version.
Is it getting a physical release, digital only or what? Because I've entered the Retroism website and haven't figured out what they do. There are modern retail games and now this one, that seems an Arcade Archives title?
You actually defeat Buddha?
Cloud Master and R-Type on the Master System are the 2 games that got me into shoot 'em ups in the first place. I never expected there would be an HD remaster of Cloud Master with online leaderboards. I will be on the Eshop buying this beauty the moment it arrives.
Now if Hamster would just hurry and bring us R-Type,I'll have an HD remaster and arcade perfect port of 2 of my favourite 8bit games.
Please let Retroism be to Taito what Zerodiv are to Psikyo.
@Anti-Matter LOL at myself, fixed. (Chunga has a whole other meaning in Portuguese)
All I see in the cover photo is goku, master roshi, and shenron.
I love the original so I'll definitely picking this up for Switch.
@Anti-Matter It was originally an arcade game.
The footage makes it look like it is largely ported from the arcade version (though with a modern HUD).
I think it was one of many arcade games in a series of single-game ports on the PS2 in Japan only. (Oretachi Game Center?)
Hopefully this the start of getting more Taito classics, would love it if Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands, & New Zealand Story get released
This is a day one purchase for me... as long as the price is right of course
@Shiryu @Gerald
I'm sorry, but i think i have to point out that the Taito-angle to this story is pretty misleading.
Taito is not related to Chuka Taisen/Cloud Master (anymore).
Chuka Taisen was originally developed by a company named Hot-B that also developed Genesis/GBA shmup classic Steel Empire (and another Genesis shmup named Insector-X and various fishing games).
After Hot-B went under (i think around 2005), the members started a new company called Starfish SD, which bought back the rights to Steel Empire and Chuka Taisen (and after some other efforts delivered the excellent 3DS remake of Steel Empire).
So, this story is NOT relevant to getting Darius or Space Invaders or any other Taito stuff to the Switch (which i want anyway), BUT it might lead to a new version of Steel Empire.
From Taito I'd like to see games like Little Samson and Panic Restaurant on Switch. They have quite the catalogue of NES games that go for stupid high prices, like $1000+ for cart only Little Samson.
Edit after reading above comment: Never mind I guess that's not happening as Taito aren't involved with this release. Thanks for clarifying. I still would like more Taito on Switch though so I stand by that comment even if there are no immediate plans.
@EmirParkreiner Well, one can dream...
Flipping heck! Cloud Master one of my fave games on the Master System, and my fave shooter till Ikaruga came along. Cool.
@LastLife yes!!
I have a memory of this:
The Master System version is the only game I have ever bought (new) that I had to return because it was faulty. It would randomly reset. They didn't have any other copies in Woolworths so I got Teddy Boy instead which turned out to be the better game anyway.
