While Bethesda Game Studios is busy preparing for the release of Fallout 76, game director, Todd Howard, took some time out in Barcelona to collect his industry legend award at Gamelab 2018. During an interview with Game Reactor, he was asked about the company’s future plans for the Switch - specifically if there were any mainline Fallout announcements on the horizon:
Well, there’s definitely interest, [but] not something that we are exploring right now. We think that the Switch is a great platform. It was the first time we really worked closely with Nintendo on Skyrim - really, really great experience and we’ll certainly be doing things with the platform in the future, but right now it’s not a mainline Fallout 4.
When asked to share his own personal thoughts about the platform, he said:
I love it. When Nintendo came to us we were one of the first people that they showed the Switch to. So I got to play it very, very early, and immediately felt that this is unique, it’s not just a handheld, it’s also a console and it’s very uniquely Nintendo.
When it came out, we were there very early as developers...we got lucky how popular the platform was, but we felt strongly it was going to be popular. I love Zelda, the Switch became the ‘Zelda device’ when it came out, and Mario’s great on it and a lot of other games as well.
Do Todd’s responses ease any potential concerns you might have had about Bethesda's interest in the Switch? Would you like to see a core Fallout experience, or at the very least, other open-world Bethesda games arrive on the system? Tell us below.

Can't wait for Bethesdas next mobile game!
Great news
Of course they will. Skyrim sold fantastic for such an old game and Doom did decent.
Unfortunately that doesn't fill me with much confidence in their future support. We've heard this before with devs on the Wii U.
Yes Bethesda have supported the Switch until now and provided some impressive ports for the hybrid console that could but it sounds like to me they're done with it for now.
So...
1. "We think that the Switch is a great platform." (Everyone seems to say that.)
2. "Well, there’s definitely interest..." (People want Fallout on Switch.)
3. "...not something that we are exploring right now." (We don't care, though.)
4. "...we’ll certainly be doing things with the platform in the future..." (Like Fallout Shelter, a port of a mobile game that came out in 2015.)
They should just stop acting like they are going to support the Switch in any meaningful way going forward. They aren't. Just say it. I thought there was a chance for at least a port of Fallout 3, but clearly I was wrong.
What I don’t understand is that it was a big honor for Nintendo to come to Bethesda so early with the Switch, I understand that Nintendo wanted Skyrim on their console but Bethesda couldn’t think of anything else to do? I just find it odd that just Skyrim is all they planned for.
They missed a good opportunity of announcing a Fallout 3 port.
Yeah right. Don't you lie to me and give me hope. I know your corporate bs.
I'm starting to get bored of the same old statements day in and day out
So far, we've been getting the best AAA content from the PC/other consoles. Honestly, I'm fine with that, we don't need all the crap content, which there is plenty of.
I'd rather that the quality was high, even if we miss a couple of titles. Just got Wolfenstein, I need to get into that!
@rushiosan @Allspice Fallout Shelter was released on Switch the same day the PS4 version was released.
@Mrtoad PS4 also got Fallout 4 and is getting Fallout 76. All we got is Fallout Shelter, that's the problem.
On a side-note, I wonder why it took them so long to put it on PS4. It has been out on PC for almost two years and has been on the XOne for over a year.
@Allspice yeah it’s certainly disappointing. The numbers cant all be that impressive to Bethesda otherwise you bet your ass they’d be clamouring to release more titles on Switch. Its just greed.... ahhh ‘business sense’.
A darn shame. I really hoped they’d have kept the momentum rolling and was expecting a big announcement at E3. Its up to Nintendo to put that sort of pressure on them now I suppose.
That's what they always say.
Note that Todd Howard is probably only speaking on behalf of Bethesda Game Studios, so I don't think he has info on whether games like Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein Youngblood, Dishonored, Prey, Evil Within, etc will come to the Switch.
If Fallout 4 is being ruled out right now, I'm betting that Fallout 3 and New Vegas will come to the Switch eventually. It's not like Bethesda Game Studios has that many games under their belt.
I'm not surprised that we got the mobile port. When I think of Bethesda the first platform that comes up is PC. They either make really big, open world games or high-performance shooters. I would love for them to do something different and make a new I.P, like a colorful platformer or something they don't normally do for the Switch. I love their games, but I'm not surprised a big open world online-only game like 76 isn't coming to Switch. I have an Xbox One for that. Though to be fair I prefer Elder Scrolls over Fallout games any day of the week.
I just want Doom Eternal on it, since Panic Button has past experience now that should be doable, and if it is day and date I will definitely get it on Switch over the other platforms.
Why is it a glimmer of hope?! Bethesda has been fantastic with Switch so far and we have to be realistic with the Switch's capabilities and the games that are possible to port.
So much negativity.
@Jawessome Doom was announced two months before it was released. And right now they don’t have an in-house porting team for Switch games and Panic Button can only do so many games at a time. Panic Button has announced that they’re currently porting a game to the Switch whether it’s from Bethesda or not, we don’t know. My recommendation is to wait until September before calling him a liar.
So...this tells us pretty much what we already knew.
@SBandy
I agree with you. I don't understand the negativity. It's like we didn't just get another game by them. They're definitely giving the switch a chance unlike quite a few other companies.
I’m still holding out hope for a Fallout Collection in Switch. I’m fairly certain all Bethy games released thus far on Switch have done well in terms of sales vs cost to port. I’m hoping the secret Panic Button game being announced next month is a Bethesda game. I’ll be happy if it’s any full fledged Fallout/Elder Scrolls, or Doom Eternals / Rage 2. Until then I’ll replay Skyrim (as I haven’t started a run on Switch yet), and Fallout Shelter - which is not bad by any means. The 6/10 the site gave is only because it’s on phones as well. Switch version is better if solely for the HD Rumble which will tell you which side Mysterious Stranger is on.
Oh well. I am loving that Bethesda support though.
It's time for Fallout on the Switch, please! I recently began a new playthrough on New Vegas on the 360 and just can't help but feel tethered down by the experience. Fallout is an experience that will benefit incredibly from a Switch iteration.
Just typical PR nonsense we've heard over the years from other top execs at various third party companies. 'I love Nintendo, I grew up with NES, their - insert new console name - is a great piece of hardware and we expect it will be very popular. We're certainly interested in making games for it but have nothing to announce now.' And years later, nothing shows up. There have been some decent to good ports of Bethesda's games on Switch, better than nothing, but I'm just more indifferent to what Howard said. Nice words but doubt we see any kind of major support from his company.
@Majora101 I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling spoiled by Switch! I find it hard to get invested into larger games on PS4 anymore since I’m tethered to my living room if I go that route. Much prefer my Switch and being able to relax in the bedroom or sunroom. Then again, I have a very feisty toddler that makes it hard to focus when playing on the big screen, lol!
They did release three great games on Switch in a pretty short time span. Amazing games, I can’t complain but I do really hope they have some kind of Fallout planed for Switch beyond Shelter. What if they give us Rage 2 as well? That’d be insane.
Fallout FPS.
Prey.
More Doom.
Rage.
Dishonored.
One of the other Elder Scrolls Games.
They will go off sales numbers. Skyrim has sold well but Doom and wolfenstein 2 I have no idea. I always feel that it’s an unfair gauge the way third parties judge support on Nintendo’s last few consoles. They release paired down or really really late ports and then wonder why the numbers aren’t huge. I’d love to see them release a new game same day and date as the other consoles and see how well it sells. If it’s still low then I guess we are to blame.
typical bussines talk, to keep all camps at ease. fact is, you can't deny a platform sold over 20 million units(and rising), a platfom where even indie games do great.
i bet they are already working on another switch project, but it's kinda stupid to say that they are releasing fallout 3, or some other big game, then they make promises and be hated if they pull the plug if the switch has a short lifespan. you dont start 4 year projects for a console that has a bad history.
lets hope the switch will still be popular in its 3th year.
I love Elder Scroll, but at the same time Elder Scroll games are the ones in which I want the most the ability to keep a backup of my saves wherever I want, so unless Nintendo won't change how Switch works I'm not going to buy another Bethesda game on Switch.
I want to manually backup it and decide for myself where to keep it so cloud for me is not enough even if it was free. I just want something else for Elder Scroll games (and for my Elder Scroll character)
PS: this is something very sad for me. TES on a Nintendo console was one of my biggest dreams but since Switch suffers of such a stupid and frustrating limitation it turned out to be a nightmare instead.
why is cloud saving such a big issue guys?
if you're at a friend just download your profile on his switch and secure it, thats it.
i'm surpriced in age like facebook, twitter, instagram people make such a big deal out of it, your information is shared and stored everywhere. only thing i can come up with why people can possibly complain, are the people that want to modify their switch, and saves are become useless after a ban.
@Allspice How can you honestly say Switch isn't getting Bethesda games?
@NewAdvent
treu, but the wii sold over 100 millions, still retailers complain about the lack of software sales beside nintendo titles, and we talk about a decade ago. people now buy more games, because there is a eshop, and games are more mature.
the nintendo ds or 3ds is not betheseda's platform, even a miracle that they released a game on it even more.
i think we will see more games from them then before, well that depends on how succesfull 3th party developers are in a long term.
lets face it, no nintendo console after the gamecube was still going strong after 3 years with software sales figures.
@GrailUK because he's trolling. Bethesda has put out 4 games in 1 year and 3 months of the Switch's existence whereas the last time they put anything on a Nintendo console was the SNES. Trolls don't see facts though, they just see whatever they want to see
If they could port prey, I tried the demo on ps4 but the double stick wasn't fast enough but on switch with motion control, I'll buy it day one
If they release a game I want then I'll jump at it. I wasn't that interested with Wolfenstein or Doom though because I've played them to death on the PC. Skyrim though, I bought that day 1, and I'd do the same for a mainline Fallout game, Starfield (not holding my breath, lol) or Elder Scrolls.
@gortsi @GrailUK *She. And I didn't say that at all. I said I don't see them supporting the console in any meaningful way going forward. I bought the games they released hoping enough people would do the same to encourage them to release more. I don't think it worked.
Four? Skyrim, Doom, Wolfenstein II...what was the fourth?
EDIT: Oh, are you counting Fallout Shelter? That was the fourth I guess.
@Allspice Well, I'm sure they will announce something nearer to the time. Besides, it's bloody obvious Nintendo USA are asking for games from them. Not sure why folk expect devs in interviews to just blurt out game after game. Lol. (I really hope we see a Fallout, but I reckon that depends on whether Bethesada have something new planned. Skyrim, Doom and Wolf2 are all relatively recent. Maybe there is a Fallout 3 Anniversary, and a quid would get ya ten we see that on Switch.)
@GrailUK I want Fallout 3 and NV on Switch more than anything else they have. I just don't see it happening now. I guess Skyrim and Doom tanked...I have no idea what they sold, I didn't see it from a reliable source anywhere.
@PALversusNTSC cloud saving is such a big issue because I play TES games just to play them, play them forever I mean, not to complete them. So I don't want my backup to be stored in a cloud managed by other people that could chose for example to delete saves of older consoles when a new one is released to make room for newer games saves. I want to be sure my TES saves backups will be mine and at my complete disposal ten years in the future, 40 years in the future, 60 years in the future... I want to keep them forever because I want to keep playing those games forever, and I don't trust Nintendo cloud enough for this.
@NewAdvent the Wii was notorious though for, despite selling over 100 million units, having very poor software to system sales. A lot of mums etc bought it for Wii sports and Wii fit and didn’t bother with anything else.
@LuckyLand Switch games aren't even going to be playable that far in the future. Pretty much all consoles released after PS2/Xbox/GC are doomed from a retro gaming position.
Oh man, what a corporate bullsh#t.
" Switch is a great platform, we certainly be doing things with it"
" but not right now"
Tell me lies, Todd.
@Allspice Me too, but I can't expect them to make games solely for the Switch Skyrim had a remaster. Maybe Vegas...
Howard?
Where’s your bow tie?
@Mr_Pepperami
The Wii having a low attach rate is one of the myths of gaming
http://m.uk.ign.com/articles/2014/01/29/these-are-nintendos-lifetime-hardware-and-software-numbers
@Allspice sorry, genders are not quite obvious from usernames. And yes Fallout Shelter is a game even if it's not to your liking. It's also available on other platforms and like they said it's a very profitable game for them. They've also announced TES:legends, which I think will also do very well considering the lack of competition on that genre. As for sales they've said that they're satisfied with what Skyrim and Doom have sold, and so far with 5 games (out or announced) they beat most third party publishers to the punch. I wish others tried half of what Bethesda dared
@electrolite77 and it sold another 28 million pieces of software since that article came out. That includes the time period where not just one but two successive generations have launched
As long as we get Doom eternal.... I’m happy
I really wanted that Fallout 4 port. RIP.
It's always a broken record when it comes to third parties: "Yes we love the platform, no we have no plans to support it."
Every hardware generation, every time.
@NewAdvent I know what you mean but I do have hopes that the switch will be different. I think it’s been a slow build with Nintendo that has seen large third parties, for a variety of reasons , be very alienated from putting stuff out on Nintendo’s consoles. Increased cost due to cartridges on the n64 started it, then u had the small storage and specialist GameCube discs, then the underpowered Wii etc etc. Nintendo seem to have tried a bit harder this time to lure them back but ultimately money talks.
Thats not reassuring at all. If he just said..hold your horses we got exciting projects coming up then we would all be happy.
@Grumblevolcano I would have hoped that my Switch kept working fine that long (right now I don't care anymore) but even if it doesn't, when I couldn't play it anymore on Switch, if I had my save backup I could use an emulator (of course by that time there will be a full functioning Switch emulator) and continue playing my Switch original save file on the emulator.
I have my Wii DKCR save file on Dolphin for example. I completed it (200%) on Wii and loved it, but this game is so hard that I would never do it again. I could maybe get to 100% again, but 200%? No way. Having a backup of my save I can keep the 200% completion and enjoy it on a computer too. Something I couldn't have done if cloud backups were the only option
I think people are acting spoiled. Yes, FALLOUT 3 ANNIVERSARY would have been a great E3 announcement. I wad bummed that it didn't happen, but we have been lucky over the past 8 months to get 3 awesome ports from Bethesda. They are doing better than a lot of third parties I terms of AAA support.
@TheMadPolarBear
How does him saying "certainly be doing things with the platform in the future" within 24 hours of getting one of their biggest AAA releases translate to being "done with it for now"?
We heard things like that on Wii U because Wii U was a failure of a system. They didn't just back out because they woke up on the wrong side of the bed they backed out because the system only managed to sell 13 million units in the span of five long years, switch managed to surpass within 10 months!
You can believe whatever you want to , but in no universe do I understand how them literally releasing three AAA games in just the last 6 months alone and one JUST YESTERDAY (not to mention a couple of their high-quality mobile efforts that just got announced) and then them stating point blank they are going to be doing more with Switch in the future, in no universe do I understand how you can look at all of that... and conclude they're done with it for now.
@Allspice
Oh for goodness sakes. Yes, like Fallout Shelter, but ALSO like Doom, also like Wolfenstein 2, also like Skyrim. We literally JUST GOT a brand new AAA title from them yesterday, and somehow you have concluded they only mean to bring mobile games going forward.
You thought there was a chance for a port of Fallout 3? There was. But chance means it's not guaranteed to happen. Notice he specifically said mainline. Why go out of your way to specifically say only mainline is not coming? That sounds to me like a New Vegas port is coming. Why else bring Fallout shelter to prime the audience, and why else go out of your way to only specify mainline entries, and he literally just said they are certainly going to be doing more things in the future.
I mean goodness. How some of you people come to the conclusions you do is just beyond me. You might not get the exact game you were hoping for at the exact time you want it, but that doesn't mean they're "done with the system". We just got a game from them yesterday and he literally said they're working on more stuff, and you think they're done with the system...
@JaxonH Wolfenstein 2 was already well into development and being ported for the Switch. A lot can change in a few months. Wolfenstein 2 was announced the same time DOOM was. It is possible that DOOM and Skyrim's performances left much to be desired or even turn a profit. By that point, it would be more cost effective to finish and release Wolfenstein 2 than to cancel it so they've released the game and no longer have to invest any further into the Switch.
Short version - Wolfenstein 2's release this week has no relevance whatsoever.
@TheMadPolarBear
It's possible, and it's also possible the exact opposite is true. Fact is we have no evidence to suggest either way. So any statement is simply an assumption based on no evidence.
But we do know is that Skyrim has been doing extremely well. And I imagine DOOM will cross 1 million sold at some point, with Skyrim crossing 2 million by the end of this year. It's not nearly as much as other platforms sales, but he even said when the Switch launched that they fully understood it was going to take time to build an audience on this platform and that they were willing to put in the work to do so.
That tells me these games could tank all day long and they're OK with it, because they understand that you don't build trust and brand recognition with a fanbase overnight. That said, Skyrim didn't tank- it did the opposite. It's an evergreen top 100 seller. And DOOM has averaged about half the chart placement of Skyrim, so I figure it's 500-750k by now, maybe more with digital included. These are just estimates but they are grounded in real evidence and logical deduction based on the sales of games with almost identical chart placement around the same time of release, and current chart placement now 7 months later.
@Allspice
Skyrim is probably near 2 million copies including digital by the end of this year. Most definitely did not tank. It outpaced Xenoblade 2 in every trackable chart pound for pound, and that game crossed 1 million sales in 30 days. Since then, Skyrim has remained in the Amazon top 100 best sellers list, even today it's still, still in the top 100.
People need to get this thought out of their mind that just because a specific game isn't coming they want that means their games must've sold horribly. There are other factors that go into whether or not a game comes and I can guarantee you the reason Fallout 4 is not coming is because it simply cannot run. GPD Win 2 cannot run it on the 7W profile, which is almost exactly on par with switch. It CAN run DOOM at 30-40fps at 540p, but Fallout 4 just can't run. Not only does it not have 60fps to get cut in half like DOOM and Wolf2, as if that wasn't enough, it's also open world. That game is not going to run on a Switch not without completely rebuilding ground up.
We are not going to get every Bethesda game, but that does not mean we will not get any.
It doesn't really fill me with hope, because that is the same non-committal answer that so many other developers have offered, before NOT offering anything. However, I have to give them credit in that Switch has seen three games that I was not expecting to see, and I was happy to see that Skyrim was a moderate success (Doom sold decently, I believe).
Nintendo platforms have always been strangely tricky paradoxes. Even when the Gamecube would get a phenomenal game like Resident Evil 4, it didn't sell as well as it should have. You compare that to, say, Mortal Kombat 2, which sold better on SNES than it did on the Mega Drive/Sega Genesis. It's frustrating because there has been the occasional third-party exclusive that rivals anything that Nintendo is doing, or has done, and yet the sales go nowhere.
It is, however, encouraging when you see games like Hollow Knight, or Celeste, or many of the best indie titles available sell best on Switch. This should send a message to the third-party community that there are rewards to be had, provided that the right commitment is made. I look at Hollow Knight as Switch's answer to Cuphead; a brilliantly-conceived indie game that can't be found on either of it's two competitors' consoles.
Really, with all of the bloat of modern day gaming (how long until the AAA business model becomes unsustainable?), I think that indie titles will eventually become the new AAA gaming, in time.
@JaxonH True. I'm curious to see the sales data you are referencing so could you provide a link regarding DOOM's and Skyrim's Switch performance? Without seeing the data, my assumptions in my original comment haven't changed because if they were successful, surely Bethesda would like to get as many games on the platform as possible rather than ending support for the time being.
To me, it still looks like the usual PR talk.
@TheMadPolarBear
They would like to get as many games they think will likewise sell, that they think will likewise run, that they have a studio available to likewise take the time to port. It's not just about plopping their entire portfolio down- they said they have to look at what games make sense for the system. That means games like Prey? Games like Rage? They ain't comin. Games that physically cannot run and do not have 60fps to cut in half and are open world (cough cough, Fallout 4, Elder Scrolls 6), they ain't coming. My bet is on DOOM Eternal and Fallout New Vegas... in due time. Panic button is only able to crank out so many games. They have other developers bidding for work also.
So we could go another year before we get another game but believe you me they are not done with the system and that's exactly what he saying right now. Fallout 4 isn't gonna happen, they are by no means done with Switch. They're barely even getting started.
As for official Xenoblade sales as of FY17 end, see here
Official Xenoblade 2 sales 1.31 million at end of FY17
And as you'll see below, Skyrim is estimated to be doing about the same as Xenoblade. The exact numbers cannot be trusted and we know for a fact they are wrong because Nintendo themselves have already said Xenoblade is at 1 and 1/3 million as of 4 months ago. Which means Skyrim sales were around 1 1/3 million, MINIMUM, as of 4 months ago. So these here are under-representative of the full sales, but we aren't looking at this to get an exact number- we're looking at this to show a correlation between Xenoblade 2 and Skyrim.
VG Chartz estimates for Skyrim
VG Chartz estimates for Xenoblade 2
Check Amazon and you'll see Skyrim has remained in the top 100 since launch, even today still in top 100. Xenoblade 2 has not, and even with a recent boost in sales due to the DLC it's still hasn't broke the top 100. It means Skyrim is outpacing Xenoblade 2, which means it's likely 100,000 or 200,000 more then Xenoblade 2 at this point. And if that game was at 1.3 million 4 months ago, then it's probably at 1.5 million today, which means Skyrim is likely at 1.6 or 1.7 million, which puts it on track to break 2 million by the end of the year, give or take. And DOOM has done about half of what Skyrim has (can verify via estimate correlation technique similar to the one I showed above, or the Amazon sales tracking placement numbers). So when Skyrim crosses 2 million, DOOM should be crossing 1 million.
We extrapolate Skyrim sales from Xenoblade 2 sales via sales estimates and tracking correlation, and likewise then extrapolate DOOM sales from Skyrim sales via sales estimates and tracking placement correlation. A reasonable margin of error should be assumed, but probably on the positive side. Meaning if anything it's actually sold more than we're estimating.
Oh well, whatever the hell was I expecting? Uninformed people continuing their negativity parade, regardless of overwhelming evidence proving the contrary.
It would seem to me that some individuals just LOVE to continue to spout their delusional, short-sighted one-liners, regardless of any actual facts making them look decidedly stupid the second they post their unintelligible babble...
@BanjoPickles Actually, RE4 did quite well on the GameCube considering the GameCube sold far less than the PS2, yet the GameCube version of RE4 sold not much less than the PS2 version.
I'm glad the Switch is getting TES Blades and TES Legends, but I hope they deliver more mainline games. Prey, Fallout, Dishonored, etc. I hope Wolfenstein II isn't the last "big" game the Switch gets from Bethesda.
At this point, after how they've treated their best franchises (TES, Fallout), after Fallout 4, after milking Skyrim into oblivion (no pun intended), after the paid mods fiasco, how they seem more interested in making money than actually making video games or respecting their IPs, I'm just done with Bethesda. I'll keep an eye out for TES 6, but even then it's more out of pure worry and fear that it'll be like Fallout 4. Don't get me wrong, Fallout 4 was a good FPS, but horrible as a Fallout game.
I just pray Obsidian get's another shot at Fallout, or even TES. Now that I'd be excited for. They know how to make RPGs. Bethesda seems to no longer care about making RPGs, just as much cash as possible.
@MsJubilee What proof do you have? At this time last year nobody knew that Doom was even coming to the Switch, all we knew was a port of Skyrim, which was a fairly safe port. Doom wasn’t announced at E3 even though it was probably in development by then, it was announced in a Nintendo Direct two months before the game came out. And it’s not like Bethesda hasn’t released a game for a year on the Switch. They just released a game yesterday! And it appears unless if Bethesda releases another last gen port or mobile game, they’ll give all the responsibilities of development to Panic Button and Panic Button can only work on so many games at a time. And guess what? We know Panic Button is working on a Switch port right now, that’ll be announced in July! Who knows it could be a Bethesda game hmmmmmmm. We both have little proof, but I don’t accuse people of lying out of their ass because they haven’t shown enough support! It’s been so long since they’ve released a game on the Switch, yesterday!
But a mainline Fallout is all I want from Bethesda now. Just give us New Vegas and done, I'd be as happy as a pig in mud.
PLEASE bring Doom Eternal to Nintendo Switch! I would love you forever!
Actually, I love Fallout shelter.
@Dog
True. I know that it sold in the range of about 1.6 million on GameCube, so I guess it wasn’t exactly bad, but then you look at the sales of future installments that weren’t nearly as good (5, if I recall, sold about 5+ million).
Regardless, I am glad, as a multi-console owner, to be able to take some of these experiences on the go with me. If a game releases on Switch, I will buy it over the same game on PS4. I’m willing to deal with the sacrifices to have it in handheld form.
With games like BattleChasers, Hollow Knight, Ys8 all hitting the Switch, I have enough games to play on the Go.
Obvious at this point you need a bit more muscle to play Bathesda games than what the Switch has. Ill make the time to plsy them at home.
I don’t expect their games to do great on the Switch - the people who really wanted to play them have done so, so you’re left with a less-keen market. And if your games are glitter over substance, frame-rate over fun, then Nintendo ain’t your console to develop for.
He's channeling Michael Knight here... and it's rad.
@PALversusNTSC games are not any more mature now than they were 10 years ago or even 20 years ago...
Less talk, more action, Fraud Howard! I'm still on the fence about buying DOOM on Switch, but I'd buy Fallout 3/NV on Switch in a heartbeat!
The Wolf 2 port was amazing in terms of performance, it was way more stable than DOOM at launch! Next, I'd like to see a Fallout port (3, New Vegas or 4), DOOM Eternal or Wolfenstein Youngblood!
I’m with @JaxonH on this. I have no clue how some jumped to the conclusions they did from the comments made. He was asked specifically about Fallout and gave an answer on that. But somehow, that means they’re done supporting the Switch? Even when he explicitly states “we’ll certainly be doing things with the platform in the future”
I guess some of us are so jaded, unless a specific title is announced, the default response is to be overly skeptical and cynical
@MsJubilee Maybe they’re taking their time. Getting their ducks in a row before making any announcements. Better to be sure you gut something coming than make promises you can’t eventually keep. Which is quite alright and totally acceptable.
@MsJubilee Why didn’t they announce Doom at E3 last year? I’d assume it was in active development by then. And why announce that a port that would come September-November in the January-May range and why announce an inferior port at E3 when the people in the crowd have already played those games. A Nintendo Direct later in the year would be the far superior place to announce the port.
“Absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence”
@Dpullam theres a big chance that doom eternal is coming to switch.
@Camilla Oh I know! I just don't count my chickens before they are hatched.
Todd Howard is Todd Howarding.
I'd love for Bethesda to make a Switch exclusive, but without the ability to mod it (read: fix their bugs) I wouldn't have much confidence in it.
Not sure how it's supposed to ease concerns when he literally said nothing in the mainline fallout games is currently being developed basically. Just asking for a bit more support for newer games or at least franchises not housed on a nintendo console.
PR fluff that means absolutely nothing. The only thing to take away here is that Fallout is not happening anytime soon — if ever.
