We've seen a rather generous supply of fan-made Super Mario game creations, hacks, and large-scale projects over the last few months; a couple of weeks ago saw the return of Super Mario 64 Online with Sonic as a playable character, and earlier in the year we had a re-imagining of Super Mario Bros. DS with 80 'new' levels. Now, though, it's time for the Mario Kart franchise to have its share of the limelight.
One fan who has their own Mario Kart hacking and modding community setup, going by the name of AtlasOmegaAlpha on YouTube, has created a fully playable version of the RC Circuit from Super Mario Odyssey's New Donk City inside Mario Kart Wii. You can check out a full race taking place in the video below, which also contains a remix of the RC Car theme.
Of course, as tracks go, this one isn't the most impressive in terms of size and design, but we can imagine Nintendo giving the course a nod in future Mario Kart games as one of the first tracks you might encounter in the Mushroom Cup. Its tight and short nature could also provide an experience similar to that of Baby Park, with shells and bombs causing absolute mayhem at every turn.
In fact, even New Donk City itself could be an excellent addition to the Mario Kart franchise. Maybe we'll see some more DLC available in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe one day?
Either way, let us know what you think in the comments below. Would you like to see some Super Mario Odyssey locations appear in Mario Kart games?

Atlas is definitely one of the best modders in the MKWii community right now, glad to see his work getting more exposure!
He’s made other great tracks too.
I love mario kart Wii
I really don't like Mario Kart Wii that much, but this is cool!
I loved Mario Kart Wii,it was the one that got me into the series after being disappointed with 64 and Double Dash. The online racing was superb as was Mario Kart TV time trials which were so much more advanced than MK8's equivalent. Time trials in 8 are like an after thought.
I wonder how many folk will think to themselves 'this is cool' but will then portray hackers as the scum of the earth under hacking related articles?
@OorWullie The Mario Kart Wii channel challenges are the thing I miss most in MK8. They kept me playing much longer than I have with 8.
@OorWullie People are fine with data mines as well, just don't call them ''hackers''
@OorWullie This is modding, not hacking.
I'll be honest, it looks like a boring track for Mario Kart. But it's very creative that someone turned the RC track into a Mario Kart track.
In a future Kart release, I would like to see some tracks based off of Odyssey levels.
@Scrummer Yes but to do the modding one has to do the hacking first.
I really hope Nintendo decides to DLC the heck out of MK8D instead of a full Mario Kart 9.
@OorWullie I love that answer.
You know, as less and less retro tracks become available from the previous games for new Mario Karts, I think that it would be a good idea to take stages like this from other games to fill out the retro roster. Maybe Mario Circuit from Brawl of Fortune Street,or even taking circuits for events from the Mario and Sonic series, just more fun references to other works.
Pretty cool! I like seeing new creations from a Mario Kart game I haven't played in a long while! I kinda miss the days of sitting on my bed with my brother playing the Wii on our weekends or the days when we didn't have a job...
mario kart wii...good times
Does anyone else feel like the lighting in mkwii was a bit...off? it always looked weird to me
What is up with that music?
@OorWullie Depends! If they mod old games, who cares?! If they cheat on online games, they are filthy scum!!
Dang... if I had the ability to make my own race tracks in Mario Kart... I would never leave home.
How did (s)he get multiple Mega Mushrooms while in first place?! Are we sure modding the track is the only change (s)he made?
Ha, guy has a "donate" button on all his videos. Keep up the Robin Hood facade modders/hackers. I'm fine with this stuff if it's 100% non profit content but when you're making a profit stealing other people's hard work/assets I have a hard time thinking you're the good guys. Makes we want to gather up a bunch of mods/hacks compile them on a website with slight improvements with a "non-related patreon or donate buttons" (and smeared with youtube ads) and watch the same Robin Hood Hackers lose their minds for "stealing" their stuff.
Even if they put New Donk City in a new MK track, i'll bet it still won't be longer than the RC track. Most Mario Kart tracks are so short, I feel ripped off.
@dkxcalibur,
Agreed.
